But the Wade/Slade part was done deliberately by Nicieza and has been confirmed by the writer.

Liefeld, naturally, denies ripping off DC. He also thinks he's a good artist. *shrug*

Liefeld has a lot of delusions. How he keeps passing them on to others in order to continue getting work boggles me.

Yeah, I knew about Nicieza's explanation, and even grinned when DC made an alternate-universe Deathstroke counterpart that was essentially Deadpool in Slade's costume.

You and me both.

That was pretty awesome. And a much better way to handle it than a lawsuit ;)

CMIII 08-29-2013 02:03 PM

that was the worst time for Marvel. DC is up to their 4th bad time. If Mattel would not have changed the figures from Movie Masters to DCUC line thing might have gone better but the figures are to different

Dr Kain 08-29-2013 09:03 PM

Boht Marvel and DC are currently cranking up the stupid at this point in time.

Goldengreg 08-30-2013 03:41 AM

Retrospectively, I think that the 90es were the worst of Comic's history.
Everything went gritty with a lot of pooches, edgy new characters with blades and knifes everywhere on their costumes. I was a late teen at that time but I had hard-time for reading those stories anyway. I have been raised by Secret Wars and Byrne's FF/AF, Power Pack and Silver Centurion-era Iron Man. (DC have been published in France only 5-7 years ago).

Now I'm more of a DC-guy as I think that they've been able to keep a little bit of the naive "good vs evil" in their core stories. I read the occasional big thing at Marvel, I enjoyed the Civil War and Dark Avengers storyline wich was very brave, but they retconned everything magically just after.

It's a good thing to get comics "realistic" but it's too hard to write on the long spart.

The DC solution to reboot every 10-15 years is not bad, at least I don't have to stop reading and go to Wikipedia every time some sister from another dimension's alternate reality appear to save the hero.

The other solution is "the straight line" with no coming back like Invincible. But it's more of a manga way of writing stories up. One and only one author, and when it's over, it's over.

Spoon 08-30-2013 05:45 AM

Does anyone know of a way to change the batteries in the SDCC Man Bat package without damaging it?

I got it in a local trade recently. Maybe it's not jumping out at me, but I don't see an easy way to get at the electronics without damaging the package.

trebleshot 08-30-2013 05:51 AM

I think a multi-verse setup is better than a single universe, from a writing standpoint. It allows writers and artists more freedom with their storytelling if they don't always have to be tied to continuity. Also it gives later writers/artists an opportunity to re-visit those other worlds as they see fit.

From a reader standpoint, it can be quite confusing sometimes if you try to keep track of it all (which is one of the reasons for DC to do the original Crisis event). On the other hand, having only one universe means the writer is tied to everything that occured before he got the gig AND he must coordinate with all the other writers/editors to make sure the universe is consistent across all publications. That can really limit storytelling, if you must always include what other writers are doing in their books even if you personally don't like it.

I sincerely wish DC would quit rebooting all the time. Just go back to a multi-verse and let the writers create good stories. And if they turn out to be bad stories, just say they happened in an alternate dimension so future writers can ignore them. ;)

Dr Kain 08-30-2013 06:24 AM

Well that is just it. DC brought back the Multiverse and then did nothing with it. They should have started focusing most stories on other Earths than just New Earth. That is why I keep hoping the N52 is just going to be an alternate Earth, as they will have finally did what I wanted them to do.

As for eras, the 90s were not bad at all. Kyle Rayner was created. Morbius was brought into the Marvel universe as more than just a one shot character. Sleep Walker was a cool character. I did enjoy Azrael Batman quite a bit. Executioner's Song was a good X-Men story.

trebleshot 08-30-2013 08:55 AM

There are good and bad in every era of comics and a lot of it depends on which era you grew up in. Some love the Golden Age, others Silver. Some loved the 90's, others thought it was all over-the-top angst-filled badly-drawn tripe dusted liberally with swords, knifes and "handheld" BFG's that had bigger barrels on them than a Howitzer.

Oh, and pouches. Lots of pouches.

Dr Kain 08-30-2013 06:44 PM

I grew up in the 90s, but I consider the 70s to be the best era of DC.

Why Calling Him Shazam! is Stupid!!

Goldengreg 08-31-2013 02:13 AM

Hahaha great one!
Shazam is not a good name but at this point thinking of taking back the name Captain Marvel from Marvel is near impossible. They would never forget to renew the rights every couple of years...

Dr_Kane I also like some 90es characters, I like the concept of symbiotes etc... But when I read back to back my old Iron Man from 150# to 300# straight, the sudden changes in characters personality is unbearable. Everyone got to be twisted, emo or plotting.

CMIII 08-31-2013 03:17 AM

Technically his name isn't Shazam! it's Captain Marvel which dates back to 1940 in 1950 when DC "got" the rights they yet again did not secure them. In the 1960's Marvel Comics created a character Named Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) and conditionally secured the rights (they must use the name every year). When DC decided to bring Captain back Marvel had secured the name they needed a new title it Became SHAZAM!. Most of the rest is legal stuff the Boxes for both Mary and Freddy call him shazam and call them by their unpowerd names Mary Batson and Freddy Freeman (Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr).

It is fairly stupid most fans of the character call him Captain Marvel and even prior to the N52 the other characters and most DC staff did as well

Dr Kain 08-31-2013 07:42 AM

Well that is what I am talking about though. In the N52 he is now just called Shazam. There is no more Captain Marvel, and that is stupid because that is the magic word that transforms him.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense lol. Reminds me that I want to pick up those two some day.

CMIII 08-31-2013 03:20 PM

the problem is the fact that two companies didn't use forsight and Secure the naming rights (Fawcett City Comics or DC) Now theres a character that cannot say his own name. Also it's not the Word its the Lightening If Black Adam was to hold Captain in front of him and say "Shazam!" captain would revert Billy or Captain can be struck by Lightening in a T-Storm and be changed

Iceman 08-31-2013 06:20 PM

Didn't the Marvel Comics Captain Marvel have to use a different name back in the day when they were fighting DC in court. I thought it ended with both companies being allowed to use the name? I know he's been called Captain Marvel on official DC stuff before.

CMIII 08-31-2013 07:40 PM

iceman yes and no. Marvels version is Captain Mar-vell. Dc is Captain Marvel, Marvel owns the rights the Title is Shazam!

Tiberius 08-31-2013 08:38 PM

Nope, it was Captain MARVEL. Although the character name was MAR-VELL.

Shazam = Captain Marvel
Mar-Vell = Captain Marvel.

Shazam, Captain Marvel, Captain Mar-Vell, is a very long story and actually involves Superman, DC, Fawcett City Comics, Marvel Comics, Willy Fawcett, C.C.Beck, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Otto Binder, Siegel, and Shuster

I want these, I really like the Batmobile, I just don't expect much after this first batch (and Catwoman next month), I just wish they would not have "covered" the bare legs on Robin, it looks strange to me.

Only saying that Mar-Vell never went under the title Captain Mar-Vell. Any comic headers was Captain Marvel. To the Kree navy, he was a Captian, which made him [to the kree] Captain Mar-Vell. But as an avengers, and comic book headers, it was Marvel.

Yes, Robin's legs look a little weird. I'm also looking forward to Catwoman. I just haven't been able to find the Batmobile at my local TRU.

CMIII 09-01-2013 03:29 PM

I was more or less saying it's a very long story and very old
