Apologies for the poor photo quality. Taken with my mobile/cell, at night.

Got into the NECA Alien range in a big way! I’m still debating about getting eggs and one of the two Bishop figures as I’m not too impressed by them and it’s already pretty crowded.

I’d appreciate any suggestions for jazzing up the background.

Those figures are incredible-looking. Also in terms of background, the options are endless in terms of paper, cloth, etc. etc but you may have to move the figures off of the shelf onto a table or something to shoot.

I’ll probably get the dissected Bishop as he fits that big hole in the set-up. I’m just not too eager to spend that much on literally half a figure and an egg,

Agreed that the shelf isn’t the best place for pictures. However, my field is creative arts and I’m happy to get stuck into some dioramas. I just have no experience of diorama-building. At the very least I think those figures deserve a grated spaceship floor, or some sort of terrain.

Tempted to just get some screenshots and get them enlarged at the local printer for background detail.

I guess fishing wire would provide ‘leaping’ poses that would open things up. I also need to get some proper lighting in there.

If I recall correctly NECA themselves had some images available which could be printed as display backdrops for the figures. They were a part of their "12 days of downloads" or something along those lines, I'd imagine those could work pretty well for your display. Also, cool collection you got there. The Queen is one of those figures that I'd love to have but just don't have the space for it in my collection as is.

I’ve seen the NECA ‘twelve days’ collection. I appreciate the effort but i’ll pass. Wouldn’t work on the scale I’m working with.vc.

Thanks for your post. The Queen is amazing (and very blue in real life). I love the Alien films (well...the early ones), and this NECA series is a godsend.

Once I get my new camera I’ll try to do individual shoots.

There was the McToys queen alien years ago that had that wall diorama with a colonist slimed and chestburster action going on. I also was trolling around ebay not long ago and saw a lot of Chinese sellers hocking what I assume is NECA scaled floor grates with acid blood holes melted through in spots... wish I could tell you what they were called but there were plenty of them around.

Thanks. I’ll have a look into both of those.

As an independent piece the McFarlane Queen is fine but she is stuck in that crouched position and a lot of her parts are toned down in size compared to the movie so the NECA queen has her beat in every department except that the McFarlane one had a diorama base. Really though from a market perspective the figure's age is it's greatest enemy from what I've always seen. The cheapest way to get a diorama going might be to make your own using relatively cheap aquarium parts, I've never really looked into it but I've read how others have done it and the results tend to come out pretty well.

Yeah I’ve seen photos of the McFarlane Queen, and while it’s pretty good I’m not particularly interested in it now that I have that NECA masterpiece.

Good idea about aquarium parts. I live quite close to an aquatic store so will see if they have anything suitable. It definitely needs something to enhance the background. I’m certainly up for making my own diorama stuff. I enjoy a project.

Here’s a different picture with the NECA Aliens on the bottom, and my NECA gremlins on the top. I have a third shelf underneath with a weird mix of the Mezco Debbie, Jason part 6, a couple of NECA predators, and the NECA Ed-209, but it’s kind of mixed in with a lot of my books.

The Bat Gremlin is my favourite figure by a mile. It’s perfect. The Spider Gremlin is pretty great too. I got the Gizmo Ultimate mainly because I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t. The Electric Gremlin was my favourite character from the movie, and the figure is actually really good. Yeah I had to prop it up because the stand provided by NECA is next to useless, but when lit properly it casts an amazing electric shadow effect.

Kotobukiya MSG makes plastic snapfit wall and base kits in some various industrial/futuristic designs. A single wall isn’t tall enough for a 7” scale figure, but they’re stackable.

The McFarlane queen wasn’t bad per se, but very limited in poseability more than anything else. Particularly if you don’t want it taking a shelf dive.

The Tenth Doctor likes to lick things to learn information about them, so we can be glad he didn't do that!
