I'm glad I still have my DCUC Signature Series Aquaman as it looks better than this one imo

I had a busy work day yesterday, which caused me to forget about this release for 3 hours after they went live. Obviously I didn't get what I wanted since they were long sold out by then. It's really a shame that stock on these general releases are so small now-a-days. Todd's been saving me a lot of money this year.

So if Todd needed an reason to make her Multiverse figure this year that would be it

Considering how long it took to get Wonder Woman * and barely at that considering she hasn't been restocked since she sold out * and that we still haven't gotten a classic Supergirl * lazy, poorly painted Rebirth version aside *. The only way Zatanna is happening is if Todd is sweet on the character like Paul Dini.

But we all know his opinion on female superhero toys.

I will never part with that collection. Yes, articulation and sculpts are outdated but they were just a perfect collection for that time.

Honestly, unless you just must have your DC figures in 7" scale it would probably be easier and cheaper overall to just collect the old DCUC lines from Mattel.

For some reason unlike MOTUC a lot of the figures are mostly dirt cheap now.

You and me both, buddy. Neither Icons, nor McFar have given me a reason to offload. Even if something acceptable in the 1/12 scale manifests out of the ether, I'll very likely still hold onto my DCUC collection.

That Wally West figure that was leaked back is gonna be a Walmart exclusive.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/DC-MULTIV...024/3557239736

I can't confirm this but rumors is Target might not be getting anymore Mcfarlane exclusives since allegedly they were to get the COIE wave but they passed on it.

This. Most of the shelf and peg space that was devoted to DC Multiverse has been replaced with other toy lines locally, notably Transformers. If you see a printed planogram at a Target take a picture of it and share it. Would be interested to know if they have plans for DC moving forward. With no major movie tie in on the horizon (and don't get me started on the flop that were Aquaman figures), they may be looking to actually move product at retail rather than dumping them at wholesale or clearance.

Atomsmasher 03-16-2024 08:07 AM

I remember when Mcfarlane was announced and people were dumping on the DCUC. That said they are still my favorite line though I really wish we got a proper scarecrow. I am also very pleased with the depth of characters Mcfarlane has gotten to in the past year. I never thought I would have a tote so quickly of various figures and can appreciate both lines for what they are. Though i do wish he wasn't so hung up on no female figures. A lot of my wants are females as they were rarely made and usually never more than 1 version. Ie. Small Barda, Raven, Donna troy, Zatanna etc

Off topic but this observation is why I hate the terms "superhero movie" and "superhero fatigue" that mainstream outlets love to say. Outside of Marvel and Batman every superhero movie has either underperformed or flopped there was never a "superhero boom" in cinema.

Power Rangers,TMNT and even DC all flopped.

Even if you really mean "cinematic universe" those all flopped too and largely died out by 2018.

Not even DC and the Universal Monsters could make it work despite their similar history to Marvel Comics.

They still have plans for DC for the next couple of months at least. I've started seeing the classic Superman and Knightfall Nightwing figures at my local Targets. There are also the Nolan film figures that I don't think are making it to the shelves because people are after the Platinum variants. And the Cassandra Cain Batgirl is supposed to release at the end of April. After that, we'll see.

It's also worth noting that this might be more indictive of traditional Brick and Mortar retail's continued decline for non-essential/perishable items than the DC Multiverse toyline.

I'd be very interested in seeing breakdowns from toy companies revealing just how much of their sales are now coming from E-tailers like Amazon and Walmart.com over traditional retail.

This is dumb as all hell but I think that's also what makes it cool. I'd prefer if they'd make him in the containment suit though.

Well. That's better news. Our Target DC space has been relegated to about a 2 foot wide area, from the hanging pegs to the bottom shelf. Transformers now has between 25-33% of the available shelf space on that side of the aisle now at one Target. Thank you online retailers....you're our only hope....

I had to look it up but this isn’t actually Doomsday. It’s a character called All American Boy. He appeared in Superman/Batman #48 from 2008. He was a human that had Doomsday’s DNA injected into him while Kryptonite was used to bond the alien DNA to his human DNA.

Shelf space will change based on their product pipeline. If Target is stepping away from DC exclusives, then it would make sense for the shelf space to shrink. They’ve had several this past year with the Jokerized figures, The Authority, Supergirl, Ted Kord, etc. While refusing to have exclusives and shrinking shelf space doesn’t look good, it also doesn’t mean that they will stop carrying DC figures altogether.

I believe it was around 2010 that Walmart stopped carrying TMNT figures. But they came back for the 2012 cartoon. Sometimes a store may need a break when something isn’t working for them.

Huh. Sounds kinda like the Smallville version of Doomsday.

Spoon 03-16-2024 09:40 PM

That Doomsday is kinda neat. I'd also be more interested in a containment suit. Kinda wish I kept my DCUC one.

It varies by store but I've noticed Marvel Legends, McFarlane, MOTU, & Star Wars sections shrinking. In contrast the sections for TMNT, Transformers, and Nintendo/Video Games are expanding.

And coincidently all the later lines have cheap kid focused lines that are more attractive as impulse buys and not just 20+$ collector lines like the former.

My Walmart has like 2-3 pegs dedicated to Gi Joe yet Walmart.com can't seem to get enough of exclusive figures for the line and Hasbro has said Gi Joe was one of their top performing brands recently.

So like I said this could more be indictive of brick and mortar retail's continued decline in the face of E-Commerce then a toyline faltering.

If this version came with Amanda Waller I might be interested.

Happy i didn't force myself to get the superman and doomsday 2 pack... I don't like being forced to buy extra figures.
I can get this and paint the green back to grey...
