I ordered a couple Hand Ninjas, and will probably get a Frog-Man later. While poking around Target's site I saw Red Hulk is up for order and I was able to score one.
|
So I missed out on the stream since I was working, but here are my thoughts based on the promo shots:
Thanos looks amazing. Too bad he doesn't actually come with that chair as that would have been fantastic. I just place a preorder for him on Pulse (for some reason Amazon won't let me order hi). What's the difference with the new AIM soldier compared to the old one? I see the new one is bulkier, but that's about it. MODOK will be really cool if I decide to jump into the AIM game. Is he the BAF for the villains wave? As I expected, the X-Men wave sans Moira are easy passes. Sad that we did not get any classic Shocker or Lizard, nor Sleepwalker, for Spider-Man stuff. Quote:

I legitimately feel sorry for Dwight, Ryan and Dan that the Spider-Verse wave got leaked last night. That said, the video left me underwhelmed and the new reveals weren't that exciting to me. I like 'Into the Spider-Verse', but I have zero interest in the figures as I mostly collect anything classic from the 616 universe of Marvel Comics pre-2005, with a few exceptions like the Grant Morrison New X-Men era which I personally hated.
Wolverine looks nice, but I would've preferred a Retro card Jim Lee Cyclops with an optic blast instead of the HoX/PoX suit, which I loathe. I never could find the Jim Lee Cyclops figure in the Warlock wave and not re-releasing him, especially considering his Ebay and Amazon prices at the moment, is incredibly disappointing and ridiculous to me. Marvel Girl looks cool, but those feet REALLY need to be fixed. Oddly enough, I'm most excited about the new Moira figure than the actual X-Men. And I think it's disappointing that we didn't get an update on Target's retro wave figures. I didn't expect to see any new Spider-Man stuff that wasn't the Spider-Verse wave. I didn't, and still don't, expect to see any new classic Spider-Man stuff revealed for Marvel Legends until February or so, which is fine with me. But if I don't see any other classic/retro Spider-Man villains released at all in 2021 like Doc Ock with bendable wire tentacles and Shocker, and non-Build-A-Figure versions of Sandman, Lizard and Rhino, I'll be incredibly disappointed. Those figures are long, looooooong overdue. Aside from classic Spider-Man, I'm hoping to see retro Fantastic Four figures and non-Gamerverse/non-MCU/non-Disney Plus figures of the Avengers. If we get more Marvel Legends figures of The Incredible Hulk and any FoX-Men characters in their X-Men uniforms (Wolverine, Storm, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Iceman, Rogue, Beast, Shadowcat, Colossus, etc.) or fan-favorite characters (Ian McKellen's original trilogy Magneto suit, Lady Deathstrike, Nightcrawler, etc.), then that'd be fine with me. Whatever happens, I'm sure 2021 will be a great year for character/wave reveals and a terrible year for my wallet. |
It's a HOX/POX wave, so I don't know why anyone would've expected Cyclops to not be from that series.

And hey we are getting three female figures in this wave! That hasn't happened since the Juggernaut wave, I don't think, not even with the Captain Marvel wave. Of course, the X-Men corner of marvel probably has the overall strongest female presence in comics, so if any wave could support it, it's an X-Men related wave. Hopefully we will get another HOX/POX/DOX wave. Would love to see quite a few characters, both new looks for existing characters and characters that have no Marvel Legends presence at all. Hopefully Hickman's run will continue to flourish and there will be several years worth of waves to pull from, even if not an entirely dedicated wave. |
Man with all the underwhelmingness coming from legends i am saving money left n right.

It's getting closer to time for the newer collectors to start filling in their lists with figures we've already gotten, simply because we've been around so long. |

^ My original Legends collecting MO when I first started was 90's X-men and street level super heroes too (since those were the only comics I read as a kid). I have mostly stuck to that (not including figs I had to buy to complete BAFs or figs I bought for custom attempts)... dumb MCU movies made me kinda like Avengers though and I have expanded to include the main Avengers (comic versions)... and a few Spidey stuff here and there. I am actually kinda proud of myself for having only ever bought one MCU Legends so far.
I did not anticipate Hasbro re-releasing better versions of the same character though... so that kinda sucks since I cannot resist double dipping for the most part. |
To clarify, I didn't mean I wanted a Jim Lee Cyclops in the HoX/PoX wave. I said I would've preferred a Retro Jim Lee Cyclops. Sorry for the confusion. I am glad the new Cyclops figure for the HoX/PoX wave has an optic blast, though honestly, all Cyclops figures should have one and there's no reason why he shouldn't.
I'm not surprised Hasbro re-releases better versions of the same character. After all, the figures have to be updated eventually. Some are just getting re-released and/or repainted sooner than others. I don't mind double-dipping if it's a new version of the same character and/or same figure from a few years prior but repainted or whatever, just as long as it's worthy of actually buying and not just made or re-released as a cash grab. I actually have a ton of figures left that Hasbro can still make. And since everyone knows I'm mostly a Marvel Legends Spider-Man collector, there are plenty of alternate versions of characters that can be made and released in a new costume or from another reality over the next decade or so. For Doc Ock, you can re-release the classic green-and-orange suit, or you could make a white Armani suit version, or you could even do the classic first appearance/Steve Ditko suit era. For the Sandman, you can re-release the classic version, or you could make the green armored suit from the Frightful Four era, or you can make the green-and-yellow Wild Pack/Avengers reservist era. There are so many ways to make an existing character appealing and release him/her in a way that would make it a new addition to your collection. Thanks for your time. I hope you all are having a great night and have a wonderful weekend as well. Stay safe, everyone. |

As for Sandman, I think it'd really have to be his classic attire. His armor almost makes him unrecognizable to the casual crowd. |
I don't think the SP//DR wave Doc Ock will be obsolete anytime soon given how great the figure looks, aside from the horrible static tentacles. If they gave him an alternate head or two in addition to the bendable tentacles, like the John Romita Sr. era head and/or the Master Planner goggles, and repainting the green and orange in different paint shades, it'd be a way of updating it without making the previous figure unnecessary. Besides, the look of the static tentacles are more from the modern/Clone Conspiracy era and not "classic", so it'd be a different era from the comics for the tentacles. Besides, we'll need a new classic Doc Ock eventually for new collectors and long-time fans anyway.
I agree on Sandman, but I've seen a lot of requests and fans wanting his armored look made into a figure. Like I said, it'd be a great way of giving fans a new Sandman figure to add to their collection. Personally, I'd love to see alternate '70s, '80s and '90s looks for heroes and villains for the Marvel Legends toyline. There are so many eras left untapped. Heck, we still need to see more new figures of X-Men in their other X-Men, X-Factor and/or X-Force costumes. Rogue alone has several various memorable costumes ('80s X-Men/Secret Wars era suit, Outback, Uncanny Avengers era, etc.) for the "Marvel Legends: X-Men" waves to make that that haven't been made into figures yet or at all. |

This looked better to me:

Ryan showed a picture of the King Thanos head on the Walmart Thanos body. Fits a bit better since the costume is closer.

If Living Tribunal were a villain then it would make sense but he's not. The In-Betweener is often antagonistic and has more immediate associations with balance so maybe it could be him. Of course the balance angle could just tie back to the BAF being a "deep cut" while most of the wave is more recognizable. |

Stilt-Man wave preordered without hesitation. Nothing in that wave I don't want.
Wife loves AIM soldiers, so the villains wave continues to deliver. And the chance for a new MODOK? Yes please. With the reveal of the rest of the HOXPOX wave... glad to know I can skip most of it with a clear conscience. Moira, and now Karima, are the only ones I'm grabbing (especially with the hints that Karima will include an alternate head for her older design, which I love). If the BAF is a need, I may buy it completed. First X-Wave I'm mostly skipping, huh. Quote:
