Merry Christmas everyone! Shartimus has a Firestar review up on YouTube

Spyne98 12-25-2020 02:47 PM

Merry Christmas, Toyark Family. Hoping everyone is well.
I got to start working on my top 10 legends list.

I want that Hulk giant smile headsculpt at the end for my 80th Hulk. Also kinda sad they had to use Peter Parker for Bruce Banner.

I was thinking about that earlier, they should do transformation two packs, they could do Bruce and the hulk, Rick and A-Bomb, Spidey and Man-Spider, and I would love to get a Sharon Ventura and She-Thing

The Legends part of my Christmas haul. I'm glad to finally have Rogue in this outfit, I passed on the Juggernaut wave figure at least three times because of unflattering paint and since then I'd been waiting for Hasbro to take another crack at it. Still have my fingers crossed that we'll get AoA Rogue (and Magneto) but this was a big check off of my list. I nabbed this Mysterio when Amazon had him for $14 on Black Friday. I still prefer the Lizard wave figure for being his proper classic colors but the wash on this one's suit is nice so he stands out.

Spyne98 12-26-2020 02:28 PM

I hear ya on Mysterio. I love the Lizard wave one, but this is pretty neat too. I like the head under the helmet better on the vintage one more than the Lizard wave version.

I honestly wonder why they went with this head though, it looks nothing like Quentin and you can't even see it through the bowl. I really dig the Lovecraftian illusion head from the Lizard wave figure but I understand why many people don't.

^ Those headsculpts totally look like they should be swapped IMO.

I wonder if Hasbro missed there opportunity to release Bruce Banner... he might not be popular enough to release as a single vintage card figure... and they kind of already released too much Hulks... I doubt people would be willing to buy another Hulk just to get Bruce. They probably should have released a comic Bruce Banner with the 80th Hulk boxset instead of first appearance Wolverine.

I really like your Mysterio pose.

Thanks, I may have unknowingly been influenced by the box art now that I'm thinking about it. I often appreciate your pics too, even if I keep it to myself. :)

Ahhh they just reused the unmasked madrox head.

Captain Nash 12-27-2020 09:26 AM

Well, it doesn't look like Firestar is going to get released in time for 2020, so I will go ahead and post my top 10 figures released this year.

I had an easy time with picking my top 9, but there were 3-4 figures I was considering for that #10 spot, so I give honorable mentions to the Walgreens Moon Knight, Sunspot and Weapon X.

10. "Age of Apocalypse" Apocalypse deluxe figure - just an all around awesome figure that really got the comic look right. Granted some of the comics showed him with a much thinner head, but others had his head normal sized. It would have been a great homage to the 90's figure if they had included a lava lamp looking Shadow King.

9. Mach 1 - I understand his base figure is from the Beetle? It's hard to tell because they did such a great job with the new parts. They are clearly working on finishing up the OG Thunderbolts so this was a great addition

8. Sebastian Shaw - the male figures in the SDCC set look a little rougher than the female sets, paint app wise, but he's still a great figure. So glad we got this set, and that we now have a male buck that uses this type of outfit, it definitely opens the door for more possibilities.

7. Kang - I really wanted to rank him higher than this but I just couldn't justify him getting past any of the below figures. Man, this is a huge improvement over the 2009 version, which always seemed tiny to me. He's perfect and was so unexpected for this year, though I was sure he would come eventually, I was ecstatic when they revealed him in September.

6. Emma Frost - the second of the figures from the SDCC set. I long said that they would not release an original white queen at retail and that a convention exclusive or something was the way to go to get her right. They got her right and I'm extremely pleased. Definitely was a needed figure for the X-Men corner of the line.

5. Selene - I know this is really the Jean Grey figure, but for me, it's Selene. She was a huge want for a figure for me, but never really expected to get her (even if it was with the packed in headswap). While not the most amazing figure, and the purple eyeshadow is definitely overdone, the fact she got made at all puts her at this spot.

4. Nimrod - Ever since Sauron got released this guy's been my #1 BAF want. Was thoroughly surprised he wasn't a BAF but definitely pleased. He may not be the most articulated of figures, but that's okay, his comic design never really led me to believe he would be. He's very blocky and that's represented very well here. While I'm definitely using the classic head for him, the alternate HOX/POX head is a great bonus and maybe one day I'll pick up a second pack.

3. Dark Beast - Utterly fantastic. I was beyond thrilled at an AOA wave, and this was my #1 hope that would get made. He absolutely doesn't disappoint, and they really captured his twisted menacing look.

2. Dr. Doom (F4 wave)- This was the first figure I received in 2020 and for the longest thought he would be my figure of the year. He was the sole figure I bought out of this wave and was definitely not something I could pass up. I don't think I'll ever need a Dr. Doom. He is perfect and he got so close to being figure of the year for me.

1. First Appearance Storm - What can I say? She's not perfect (old granny hands on the lightening effect hands) but this figure is just incredible. I had to get two of course to have the regular and angry goddess looks. While she may not be as perfect as some of the other figures on this list, what Hasbro did get right puts her at a well earned figure of the year spot. I'll gladly take any Storm looks and I do want the HOX/POX and AOA looks, but there is not another Storm look I "need" now that we've got this one.

BAF of the year: My BAF want list is very short nowadays, and this year I only bought two full waves of figures so I only got 2 BAF. While Sugar Man is great, I've never felt this huge attachment to the character, so Strong Guy is the BAF of the year for me, he's a great figure that definitely was needed to complete the 90's teams line up.

Thanks for the sharing - this confirms just Sersi for me, and that's only if we aren't getting some kind of comic Sersi.

He is definitely an amazing figure. The level of detail, paintwork, and quality that was put into him compared to the typical Marvel Legends figure is staggering. I’d put him in the top 10 hasbro figures, easily. He’s on par with a lot of the Japanese figures at twice the price, imho.

Harbinger 12-28-2020 08:59 AM

Man those eternals are just a hot mess of wtf. They look bland and boring to me.

No problem. Considering your top ten for the year, this might also be of note for you (and other folks on the board):

From the phrasing, it sounds as though more AOA is on the table, despite previous remarks about AOA being done. Here’s the relevant quote: “ So with Sugar Man and Apocalypse already receiving contemporary Legends updates, who would you like to see as the next AOA BAF?”

Thanks! I did see that from my lurking on Fwoosh, I'm excited for that prospect. I'd personally love a modular Abyss to be the next BAF - like have it be an 8 figure wave with Nemesis and Sabretooth not having extra pieces as they'd be larger figures, and having a normal Abyss be a carded figure. The "BAF" pieces would be modular more void-like open/spiral pieces like shown when he's using his powers - 2 legs, 2 arms, 2 chest pieces - carded figure head would remain the "BAF" head.

While I'd love a wave, and multi packs, I think a wave consisting of the above 3 and: Rogue, Magneto, Storm, Cyclops and one of Gambit/Nightcrawler/Bishop/Iceman would settle me up alright. Of course I'm greedy so I'd hope Dead Man Wade would be in the next Deadpool themed wave, and I'd still like a deluxe Iceman instead of a single carded figure. Of course, I could come up with a total of 15 figures I think I would "need" but one wave bare minimum.

Those Eternal figures make Mattel's Green Lantern movie line look exciting.

Very surprised that Angelina Jolie's Thena didn't make the wave. With that said, she's got to be an upcoming store exclusive single release. No way they are going to pass on her.

That’s both stinging and accurate. Kro actually looks rather similar to one of the generic GL corps members from that movie. I’m trying to give the movie the benefit of the doubt, but the lackluster design work doesn’t endow me with too much confidence.

WallySparks 12-28-2020 11:35 AM

I know nothing about original Eternals comics and characters, just saying that the Eternals Movie Marvel Legends figures look weird especially that Kumail Nanjiwhatever
