I don't know much about The Eternals other than it was pretty much the Marvel version of The New Gods. I was considering picking up the new Omnibus that just came out, but for some reason it doesn't have the issue of Thor in it that completes the Eternals storyline that was left unfinished when the comic got canceled.

Yeah, I'm not sure what they were thinking with the designs, but they should have gone for the fantasy route like the comic is supposed to be as opposed to the realism they're trying to invoke. It's about a bunch of god-like beings, there is no need to do anything realistic.

I couldn't have said it better myself!
As a long time comic reader, I have to say that the eternal characters are ones that I've just never cared about. I don't really care about any of the designs from the movie and these figures look dull. At least it's one whole wave that I don't need to buy a single figure from.
*Edit, had a massive typo. Fixed it.

I just saw pics of the figures on another site that was pulled from ebay. Maybe Sersi and Ikaris. All the others are bland and boring and could care less about them. Would have preferred Comic versions from Avengers comics.

Shinzero02 12-28-2020 04:30 PM

Is that the first MCU wave that didn't include comic versions of characters?

It might be the first wave I pass on entirely since I started seriously collecting during the Odin wave.

With some kitbashing, maybe I could just use them as troop builder bodies if I ever wanted to make a full Wakanda diorama. I dunno...

The M’Baku wave was all-MCU, but that was after the film came out and Hasbro felt the demand was there. It’s certainly a risk to do an all-movie wave for a new property.

We all have our wishlists, but I honestly feel Firestar was the last.

Far from last, my friend. Perhaps this storyline / toyline is just gettting started. Especially when the Eternals movie start bringing the more larger-than-life characters.

Saying it now, this Eternals wave will be the worst selling ML wave ever! Wouldn't shock me if it's on clearance a month after hitting the pegs. Going all Movie based was a huge mistake on Hasbro part. Icarus & Sersi should've been comic based.

MeLikeJinx 12-28-2020 07:28 PM

^ Don't forget that Ant-man wave with comic Wasp that became the biggest pegwarmer of all-time... maybe. And the rest of the wave was I think Tiger Shark, Grim Reaper, Bull Dozer and... Ant-man... and someone else.

Actually... the Eternals wave might be worse than that. LOL. I'm sad the Korean guy is the BAF... I think he is like a huge star in Korea or something... I kind of want to get just him... and maybe Richard Madden for his headsculpt... on clearance of course.

lordbest 12-28-2020 10:44 PM

I quite like the Eternals figures personally, based on those very mediocre pictures anyway. I'll wait to see the film before I buy any except Sersi, though.

webz 12-29-2020 05:56 AM

I never read any Eternals stuff, and I know it’s shameful to admit, but I’m “marveled out” at the movies. Almost done with superheroes in general. WW84 had some nostalgia moments, but I fell asleep both times I tried to watch it.I can’t think of anything in the next phase that has me excited.

Back to Marvel action figures,.. anyone else see a sudden surge in older figures over the holidays? Like someone in the warehouse found a few cases of older waves and sent them out? I saw several Misty Knights, the Walgreens FF sets, and a few others from the last few years just popping up on local retail shelves. Seemed really odd to see.

Would love a modern movie version of The New Gods, but I don’t want Zack Snyder anywhere near it.

I’m disappointed Gilgamesh is the BAF too, I loved Don Lee in “Train To Busan” and would have bought Gilgamesh on merit of that, were he single-carded.

Well, you're in luck as filmmaker Ava DuVernay has been working on the movie for over a year.

Sadly, knowing DC, they're never going to be wearing their proper costumes. If it features Kanto, he will probably be some really dorky recluse that is a huge fan of Mr Miracle's act and Mr Miracle will say something towards him that pisses him off so much he becomes a super villain over it. Orion will probably be some private eye detective who wears a business suit all of the time. The Forever People will probably look like a bunch of emo rockers. Granny Goodness will be some super model looking lady.

I know this is off topic, but: Betty White for Granny Goodness or we riot.

Captain Nash 12-29-2020 08:09 PM

What’s up with the glowing eyes? He looks like he’s about to break out into a Prime Sentinel

Starlord67 12-29-2020 08:56 PM

The conspicuous and almost apologetic "STARK" hanging in the air screams, "don't fret, this shit won't last, we're just cashing in on Invincible-Starker-Man...again." A little STARK makes everything better...Am I right, or am I right???

Now, obviously I haven't the foggiest idea what's up, but if this is in fact another Stark/Parker suit, I'd prefer Pete go back to his Parker Industries suit. Or, as you mentioned, the Big-Time duds...
