Kinda a good thing i can skip waves, i get to save money and invest it somewhere else

New Rektangular video.

He says the X-Men Classic wave is AOA wave 2 and Rider Hawkeye is still coming.

Does it though? They have yet to do any panels this year so their statements could have just referred to the end of 2020 and this alleged wave probably won't be dropping anytime soon.

You’re probably right. I interpreted the comment as meaning for 2021, but on doing some digging, there’s some more recent statements which suggest otherwise. During the HasCon stream they mention another storyline-specific wave coming in 2021, and during Ryan Ting’s recent appearance on a pod-cast, he referred to the AOA wave as “wave one.”

hasbroherofan 01-27-2021 12:35 PM

They said they originally wanted Apocalypse as the BAF of the first wave so they were implicitly saying more were planned.

I'm fine with it. Money saved in an otherwise expensive year for me!

I think I prefer having them in their own wave to mixed-in with other characters I do want, so that I can skip the wave entirely. That said, I do hope we get more X-Men figures this year through another avenue. I’m really eager to finish the other teams they’ve started.

Finishing teams would be nice. Do you guys feel that a character needs to be in the costume they wore while part of the team or is the character enough? For instance would Wonder Man need to be in his Safari Jacket to complete the original WCA line up? We're only Crystal and Sersi away from completing one of the Avengers teams as long as you don't want Black Knight in a bomber jacket and a shaved Herc. I think we only need Tigra, Living Lightning and comic Mantis to finish the WCA unless you also want Mockingbird's classic bell sleeves and pirate boots

If its a uniform team like havok led xfactor or uncanny xforcei definitely want the team outfit but if its something like west coast avengers wonderman it can go either way since his red coat OR his sleeveless black n red long haired outfit are his two most recognized get ups.

I think wonderman would make a good candidate for a deluxe fig that has the red coat, red sleeved arms and a sunglassed head and also bare arms and long haired head so that way we could have either version on the shelf. :D

My personal preference is for the looks to match, but I recognize that isn’t completely realistic. The West Coast Avengers is a fantastic example of both of these phenomena. I personally would need classic Mockingbird for the team to feel “complete,” but I also recognize that it isn’t particularly likely to happen. Safari Jacket Wonder-Man is a must for a number of reasons, due to the looks prominence for his membership in the Avengers & the WCA. Also it’s one of the more garishly asinine prominent costumes in comics.

With the nineties Avengers, I can compromise on Black Knight (although I’d argue they should do the jacketed look, since the parts are there), but I would like a classic Hercules.

@Spyne98 - No worries, bud, I know what you meant with your post. I only meant I've seen my fair share of posts where fans sound like they're complaining that (X) character is getting an update and that they're basically saying Hasbro don't do it. Of course they're going to do it. It's necessary for new collectors. I still think that at least every two years they need to have re-releases/updates of main characters everyone knows and buys, like, say, Captain America, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Storm, Thor and Wolverine. That way, you can change up the costumes with versions everyone knows and loves (black costume Spidey and original purple suit She-Hulk one year, classic red-and-blue Spidey and F.F. suit She-Hulk the next time, etc.) and give fans the chance to buy the figure they wanted that came out years before they started collecting. And I agree with you, I've long-since accepted the fact I'll be buying updated versions of my favorite heroes and villains over and over. (That is, if I can even find them the first time around.)

@Ultra Seven - I'm not an "Age of Apocalypse" fan, so I'll be passing on that wave. If that's true, I'll be disappointed. At this rate, I'm hoping 2022 gives us some more classic X-Men and Spider-Man characters. The first waves of X-Men and Spider-Man for this year didn't appeal to me. Ironically, the only figure I want out of the X-Men wave is Moira MacTaggert. I prefer the 60s/70s/80s/90s era of Marvel. My cut-off point is the Civil War/One More Day nonsense that made me stop buying their comics.

@hasbroherofan - Thanks for posting the video! If the Spider-Man 2099 figure rumor proves to be true, I wonder if that be in Wave 2 or as a Retro figure? Also, if he's part of Wave 2 in the fall, which code in the Wave 2 list do you think he could be? I'm still hoping Sandstone is actually Sandman. And if we do get the Riders figure of Hawkeye, does this mean the rumored classic U.S. Agent will be happening too?

@Hasbro - Ant-Man, the Hulk, Thor and Spider-Man all have their 60th anniversary next year. "X-Men: The Animated Series" has its 30th anniversary next year. Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" film turns 20 next year. Y' know... if you didn't already, it'd be cool to have Marvel Legends plans for any of those anniversaries next year.

*cough*

My cut-off is around the mid-nineties. It was the Clone Saga that clinched it for me. I still buy the occasional title, but I haven’t been subscribed to anything in ages. God, I sound like such an old curmudgeon. Wish I had a lawn to yell at kids to get off of. Anyway. I hope 2099 is a sign of more retro Spider-Man releases, those were my favorite releases from last year. By the same token, I’d actually prefer it if Sandman wasn’t in the upcoming Spider-Man wave, so that they can save him for a deluxe release like Kingpin. Sandy lends himself to lots of accessories. Of U.S. Agent, my impression would be that it seems like the WCA is a team they’re working to finish, so he’ll probably be coming sooner or later.

Captain Nash 01-27-2021 01:27 PM

Count me in the "thrilled" for more AOA figures crowd.

I mean of course I'd love to be getting Shadowcat and Banshee at some point soon here, but if it's not a huge difference if it's 8 or 14 months, which is probably when this wave and the first X-Men wave for 2022 will drop.

But seriously. They need to be made by no later than next year and really should try to squeeze them in this year somehow.

Agreed on Sandman. I just said I hope he was in Wave 2 due to the listing. But I'd prefer him on the Retro card. Admit it - seeing Sandman on the Toy Biz packaging of the 90s "Spider-Man" animated series, the very show he was forbidden from showing up on, would be too perfect. I do hope we get the classic U.S. Agent, he's been a character I want Hasbro to make an updated figure of for years. But I really, really, REALLY hope he isn't a Walgreens exclusive. If he is, I doubt I'll ever find him, especially now.

I'm with you, Captain Nash, I'd also love to see Shadowcat and Banshee. It'd be nice to see them get new Marvel Legends figures. I do hope we'll see more classic X-Men figures - and more classic figures, period - this year.

Also, is anyone else wondering if Marvel Legends have any plans to do something with Captain America? I know we got that Marvel Comics 80th anniversary figure in 2019, but this year is Cap's 80th anniversary and it'd be a shame not to see any Legends figures for our Star-Spangled Avenger this year.

hasbroherofan 01-27-2021 01:52 PM

US Agent was apparently a mistake in the listing.

hasbroherofan 01-27-2021 05:19 PM

Teasing for an upcoming Gamestop exclusive.

If anyone is looking to offload any stilt man parts let me know, I picked up Frog Man and he's the only figure in the wave I really want

I have a spare head and body to Stiltman!!

MeLikeJinx 01-28-2021 03:39 AM

Looks like that Gamestop exclusive tease was just a joke because of everybody going crazy over Gamestop stock now.

Also watching that Rektangular video made me sad... can't believe the only 90's-ish X-men we are getting this year is Lady Deathstrike... not even a Banshee to show us some pity. At least we got the Black Widow wave out of the way though... just imagine if they had delayed that wave too. I commend Hasbro for trying to complete teams though and not do just a one-off wave... except that X-men movie wave is probably a one-off, but at least AoA isn't. I remember reading a rumor over Fwoosh that Bishop and Stryfe were in the next Retro X-men wave... I wonder if that is true or not. I really hope Rektangular is right about them re-releasing the OG Spider-man 2099... I didn't really care about that figure before, but after playing the PS4 Spidey game both 2099 costumes became my favorite Spidey costumes.

warmachine6 01-28-2021 07:12 AM

I mean lets be fair to the AOA fans here, 2 waves are hopefully good enough for them, to get a completed x-men team, hopefully the last. I dunno.

We'll probably hear some news after the starwars team have done their pulse event so like in FEB ?

At this point in collecting anything i can pass on is a win

I'd gladly take more AOA stuff, but if we at least get Magneto, Rogue, Sabretooth and Cyclops I'll consider it done. Though I really want an Abyss.....(make it happen Hasbro!)

Spyne98 01-28-2021 09:43 AM

I'm with Captain Nash. I'll take more AoA figures. I don't expect them to make everyone from that series, but I'll gladly take some more heavy hitters. Like Sabertooth, Cyclops, Havok, Nightcrawler Abyss, Mystique, Gambit and a new version of Holocaust. Did I just make a wave? Haha

I'd buy every one of those. Add in Bishop, Iceman, Storm, Dazzler, Dead Man Wade, Sinister, Rasputin and Damask. But most especially Storm out of that. Really would be great to get that Mystique, I love her AOA look.

And for gods sakes Hasbro no Wolverine.

Also adding in Rogue, you left her out Spyne! They gotta make a Rogue.
Cripes You also left out Magneto LOL. Him too.

Dr Kain 01-28-2021 10:06 AM

For AoA, If Hasbro could at least make Magneto, Rogue, Cyclops, Sabertooth, and Bishop, then they've pretty much covered the truly important characters. Everyone else would be a bonus.

Personally though, all I ask for 2021 is Byrne/Cockrum Banshee, that's all.

I have to agree. And I wonder why there's not more call for Bishop. I mean, I realize he's not the most exciting looking character in AOA, but if not for him, they would have been stuck in AOA forever.

Agree on Banshee, I'd like to see both Jim Lee and GSXM versions of course eventually.

StuartGreen2019 01-28-2021 11:32 AM

I think the main problem I have with the AoA wave right now is there's too many figures left to make. If you have a second/possibly final wave for it, you're bound to make fans unhappy with whoever the roster is. I know that everyone wants Rogue, Magneto, Sabretooth and Cyclops (and rightfully so) and you have to include Bishop given his role. But who would the last two spots be? Whoever is included, you'll get disappointed comments out of it: "We got an A.O.A. Magneto but not A.O.A. Quicksilver?" "No Storm? No Mystique? Just Rogue? Just one female character out of a new seven figures wave?" "I can't believe Sinister was left out! He was important to A.O.A.!" Get where I'm going with this?

Granted, they could always do more A.O.A. figures in solo releases as Fan Channel exclusives or put two or three A.O.A. figures in a future X-Men wave, but would that be acceptable? I'm all for more figures of a wave that everyone loves and wants more figures of, even if I myself don't like it. I'm curious to see what Hasbro does and who makes the cut.

That said, I'm disappointed the Classic X wave isn't X-Men Classics. I was hoping for the rumored Bishop, Stryfe and sold-separately classic Magneto for retro card releases. Toss in any version of Banshee, another female figure in need of a new non-Jim Lee uniform figure (Rogue, Psylocke, Jean Grey, etc.) and the inevitable Wolverine variant and that'd be fine with me. Ah, well. Maybe next time.

I'm still hoping Hasbro surprises us with more classic X-Men and of course more classic Spider-Man figures this year. Time will tell...
