Dr Kain 12-21-2013 10:57 AM

My god, someone could just collect Batman figures and have an entire room full of them.

Sad though, that out of all those Batmans, the DCU Wave 1 Batman is still by far the best Batman toy ever released.

BTW, if anyone is interested, Superboy Lurch is now showing up on ebay from Chinese sellers.

CMIII 12-21-2013 04:58 PM

I am one of those that would blow off Batman as a figure heck my last 5 online purchases 0 were Batman and In Store only 1 was Batman and not the traditional version. How do you spell overdone Batman

I would imagine there are probably several who have already run out of room just collecting Batman figures.

So is Mickey Mouse. Doesn't make him any less popular. Popularity is the main reason why so many toys get made of the Dark Knight and Walt's rat.

CMIII 12-23-2013 10:36 AM

they become peg warmers faster because once you do one you do not need to keep making all 365 costumes. Heck look at some of the Alt Batmen produced 4 are the same with the addition of Damage on one, mud on another..

The thing is, if they were absolutely 100% pegwarmers, then someone would get the memo and stop putting out so many.

The bottom line is that Batman does sell, if not to the consumers, then at least to the corporate buyers (Walmart, TRU, Target, etc). Keep in mind, that while they're trying to get us to want their products enough to buy them, they also have to convince the big-box retailers to stock their products in the first place. Which is why they overproduce certain characters - the corporate buyers will readily go for something that has easily recognizable characters.

Which is why the TF lines have been so inundated with mass amounts of Bumblebees and Optimus Primes until very recently. At least now Hasbro's been able to make their cases equal-packs, so no character overwhelms another (in theory).

So while it absolutely makes one seethe, keep in mind that without your stupidly massive amounts of Batmen/Supermen/Flashes/Hal Jordans, the DC lines wouldn't have lasted as long as they have.

CMIII 12-23-2013 01:06 PM

Keep in mind Matty has done 4 Batman centric of which all failed with in 1 year... Superman, Flash, Green Lantern would not fare much better, and haven't. Green Lanten Classics had over 7200 characters (Just GLC) to chose from. Ultimately they stopped after 2 waves. I am Happy with the GLC waves we got but would have liked more.. Whats more is Wonder Woman would have failed faster. In the end this line catered to a Market Mattel decided it no longer wants for some reason. But I'll get those gaps filled with DCC when the Last of the Matty line end.

CMIII 12-23-2013 01:11 PM

I know when I was a kid once I got one of a Figure I wouldn't bother getting the same figure in a different costume...

I a funny twist Batzarro is selling for between $2.00 and $40.00 on Ebay. Yeah Mattel great figure choice, Nice going for Figureability over what Customers want. How'd that work for you?

kenm2474 12-24-2013 04:25 PM

A pic of most of my DC Marvel customs. I have 5 more maybe 7 on the way.

Yeah, I missed the TFT cut off date, so I'm just going to be dropping mine off at the UPS store this weekend as a refuse deliver.

CMIII 12-26-2013 01:31 PM

why not just take it to a local hospital with kids or St. Jude, Ron McDonald house, or an Orphanage same thing as TFT

CMIII 12-27-2013 09:51 AM

Any one know if I can get just the Cyborg weapons without buying another figure... Cant see spending $50 to get 2 pieces

Because it'd be cruel to scare a poor kid half to death with a creepy figure like that?

He has never sold for $2 as far as I've seen. Can you link me?

Part of Mattel's issue with DC toys now is getting retailers interested in them again. The other half, of course, is making toys that aren't crap, appeal to more people than just 6-year-olds and younger, and don't bust anyone's bank account. To me it seems that Mattel is having a very hard time finding that sweet spot amongst all those factors.

I sincerely doubt they would ever intentionally ignore or refuse a opportunity to make a profit. Lack of profit would be the only reason I could see as to why any for-profit company would actively avoid a given market within its industry.

Well, for one, not every kid is like you. Two, some kids/toy collectors actively try to get as many versions of their favorite character as possible, which would include multiple costumes and such.

For example, when I was I kid I snatched up every version of Luke Skywalker I could get because he was my favorite character in SW and I wanted to recreate all the scenes with him in it (and it's kinda hard to do the Wampa fight correctly when Luke's in his Tatooine farm-boy outfit).

Cut to today and I'm still buying multiple versions of my favorite characters like Luke, Vader, Boba Fett, Soundwave, Prime, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander, and so on. But I will admit I do draw the line at Battle-Damaged versions of toys I already own.

Not to mention he/she might think there's something wrong with his/her new Batman toy, assuming that kid doesn't know the backstory of Batzarro.

Well they are all but blowing off the Collectors Market.. Saddly the stores need to stock these figures to sell them and In the Hudson Valley, NY the Stocking has been Lackluster at best for DC Items. It the Symbotic relationship People can't buy if stores don't stock, and Stores don't sell if people cannot buy, and stores turn around and say "We aren't selling these items" but they don't see the shelves. Let me tell you the one store that does have these figures near me cannot keep them in stock unless it's a 9 or 10th Varient of the same guy I.E. Hal Jordan, Batman. Heck if you look at Marvel stuff has been sitting in Kmart or Target since October 2012.

Nobody knows the Batzarro back story because Mattel and DC thought it was a good Idea to go to the most obscure Villain possible

Dr Kain 12-30-2013 11:03 PM

So I decided to ship Batzarro back today. I never opened the shipping box up so I just handed it to the UPS guy as a refusal.

I'm not entirely sure what point you're arguing now.
