Maybe?

tierneygreen 02-25-2021 03:14 PM

^^ That'd be my guess. Easy repaint of existing parts for Hasbro. No new tooling required.

Also, it looks like my Deluxe Thanos will ship from Pulse today or tomorrow. *slow fist pump*

Veronica Mars 02-25-2021 03:16 PM

Think we can expect any new reveals with Hasbro's investor day thing?

It's in the upcoming Iron Man wave.

So do we know what the five Retro Spider-Man figures for 2021 with these rumored listings? With black costume Spider-Man and Webman listed, it looks like Dan Yun's Twitter photo with Hobgoblin, Lizard and Shocker may have revealed who the villains will be. I do hope we still end up eventually getting retro card versions of Chameleon, Doctor Octopus and especially Sandman. Sandman on the old Toy Biz animated series packaging is too perfect to pass up on.

I am curious to see Web-Man might be a Retro character, but it seems like a waste of a Retro slot if it's true. To those unfamiliar with the character (that is, if I actually remember this correctly), Web-Man was an evil twin of Spider-Man's created by Doctor Doom by a mirror and when the mirror was destroyed, Web-Man was too. I mean, how often do you get an evil Spider-Man saying "Have some PUNCH, Spidey!" while delivering a punch to the face? I forgot what comic it was from, though.

I look forward to seeing what official figures that Hasbro will announce for the Spider-Man Marvel Legends toyline. I'm hoping we'll get a full second wave of Retro figures eventually. Maybe next year for the character's 60th anniversary year? We'll see.

Dr Kain 02-25-2021 05:58 PM

If there is a Retro Hobgoblin, I hope it's the Romita Jr version.

Ultra Seven 02-25-2021 06:30 PM

My big hope with Hobgoblin is Flash Thompson &/ or Ned Leeds alternate heads. It would be a fantastic use for the body from the Hood figure I’m stuck buying.

If he comes with an alternate head it ought to be Roderick Kingsley. I guess they could also throw in a Ned Leeds head since that was Marvel's crappy "we picked a name from a hat" effort at an identity reveal, but at this point it's undisputed that Kingsley is the original and real Hobgoblin.

Kingsley’s totally more logical for inclusion. I was thinking of Flash or Ned because I want more of Spidey’s supporting cast in the line, and this seems like the most logical avenue to get them.

Okay I gotcha. I'm sure a number of people are going to want an alternate head to pop onto the Hood if they only buy him to complete Xemnu and Ned would add to the growing amount of Peter's citizen pals.

This is exactly my plan. I’ve got no use for the Hood, but figured as soon as I saw it that he would be fantastic as fodder for civilian kit-bashes. I wish they had included Harry Osborn as an alt head on last year’s Green Goblin in addition to his old man.

But then how could Hasbro sell us that figure a third time as a fan channel exclusive?! :D

He’s definitely going to be my go-to guy for dirtbag small time criminal.

I know it was inevitable... but really glad another black suit Spidey is coming. I remember agonizing at Walgreens between white 2099 Spidey or black suit Spidey from that wave because I only had enough cash for one... I got the white 2099 Spidey, but kinda always regretted it. Hopefully the OG 2099 Spidey is in that new retro Spidey wave too.

StuartGreen2019 02-25-2021 09:07 PM

@MeLikeJinx - I believe rektangular or someone said we're supposed to get a classic Spider-Man 2099. If he's not a Retro figure, I assume it'll be for the second Spider-Man wave this fall.

Hulkwummy 02-25-2021 10:03 PM

We already got a Classic Spider-Man 2099 years ago in the Hobgoblin wave, why is everybody wanting a new one?

You just answered your own question, buddy. It's been YEARS since we got a classic Spider-Man 2099 figure. Six years, actually. There are those who wanted it at the time but couldn't find it/buy it, and there are new collectors who might want to buy the figure but can't afford the current price. I'll never understand why fans are shocked to hear that Hasbro can make more than one version of a character after they made a previous figure of it a few years ago. Just because he/she found and bought that figure the first time, it doesn't mean everyone did and new collectors wanting to find a certain character should have the chance to find/buy their favorites too.

Not to mention Kingsley being Hobgoblin using body doubles makes him into being like a Bond villain.

Outdated body that is too thin for that version of Spidey.

- Iron Man (Endgame, battle damaged) with Armored Thanos
- Iron Man Mk. III

For those curious on the source, they leaked the 80th Anniversary Collection’s complete line-up in early 2019.

Endgame Thor better be apart of that Infinity Saga wave. Its still criminal we don't have him yet. But seeing Hemsworth on Love and Thunder set looks like fat thor will be obsolete by the time that movie comes out

Thank you @StuartGreen

Also there's a decent chance a new classic Spidey 2099 might be on the new retro Spidey body

In defense of a pretty harmless question on the part of Hulkwummy - I don't think it's beyond the pale that a number of Legends collectors/Spider-Man fans would rather those slots be used for characters like Will O' The Wisp, Carrion, Lightmaster, the Gibbon, Tarantula, etc. Additionally, there are a number of Legends collectors that aren't exactly comfortable with, nor have they fully acquiesced to, full-price redecos, which is essentially what these updates would be if the speculation holds true.

But you also have to consider collectors who are new to the line. Not to mention most of the time those redecos aren't just that, the team has said they do the best they can to keep the original release meaningful to those who have it. Take Rogue, Gambit and Thanos for example. I have the USAgent from the Terrax wave, it's a perfectly reasonable version of the character, yet there is a lot of call for an update even though there are other characters that could take that slot, I don't begrudge the folks that want an update

Sure, I've made it known that I want a properly scaled Beta-Ray Thor in a classic outfit and said, years ago, immediately following having the fig in hand, that once an iconic (properly sized) Hulk was cobbled the Raft/BAF Abomination was going to experience calls for a remake. So, you're preaching to the choir as far as it regards wanting an updated figure that has seen previous (and recent) iterations. However, by the same measure, don't begrudge collectors whom would rather a slot go to an unrepresented character. Especially if said revisits are going to be simple repaints, such as symbiote/FA 2099 Spidey/'Ben Riley & the Clones'/Big Time/Parker Industries/Superior Spidey/etc on a retro Spidey mold. There's a limit to the patience of collectors for this particular aspect of collecting; where some see an opportunity for newer collectors, others are wary of abusive manufacturing tactics.

I totally get your point here. I hope nobody here, especially Hulkwummy, thought I was being rude or mean with my answer/reply. I can see why some people will think Spider-Man 2099 as a wasted slot when the character had a toy six years ago. But as valid as your point is, please keep in mind the last figure was just that -- six years ago. This isn't like this is a figure made so suddenly after a previous figure was released. There has to be a certain acceptable amount of waiting time between one version of a figure and its inevitable re-release/upgrade. Figures get remade all the time. This isn't new. Like Veronica Mars said, collectors who are new to this line will want to get their own Spider-Man 2099, myself included. (Of course, I'm also waiting on a new classic U.S. Agent figure and his last figure came out even longer than the Spidey 2099 figure, but I digress.)

There are plenty of figures that Hasbro can make/re-make/re-release and fans will always buy it. Classic versions of characters like Captain America, Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, etc. always sell out. Those looks are iconic, everyone knows them, everyone loves them, and every fan wants to add them to their collection. And even costumes that aren't the original looks that are still met with heavy fan demand, such as red-and-gold armor Iron Man and the Jim Lee era X-Men uniforms, always sell out too. The two main problems I have with every Marvel Legends wave, though, are "Who can I afford?" and "Who can I find?" And whenever I see a popular character like Jim Lee uniform Cyclops or whatever always sell out in pre-orders, never show up in stores and then quickly find their way on Ebay and Amazon being sold for three or four times more than the retail price, that's what really upsets me.

Though to be fair, Spider-Man 2099 is just a rumor at this point. We don't know if it'll even happen. We all thought Legendary Riders Hawkeye and a Walgreens-exclusive classic U.S. Agent were in the works as reported, but they never came out last year and we don't even know if they're really going to get made this year or even ever. Until Hasbro shows us what'll actually come out, then I'll get excited. That said, it's always fun to speculate, guess and wish-list.

I hope you all are having a great day and have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe, True Believers.
