Ultra Seven 05-28-2021 08:22 AM

I just realized something: could parts of the AOA Colossus BAF be retooled into Cyber?

Also, Thor has it right about what bugs me about Tigra: she’s just off. Like there’s just something about her that doesn’t feel like classic Tigra, even with a different headsculpt.

And about Wasp wearing stupid costumes. I think it’s why there’s no consensus on a “definitive” Wasp, because she never wore anything for more than two issues. Closest for me would be some version of the red & black costume?

We also do need the gorram WCA line-up finished stat. After Tigra was announced I was like, “cool I have most of the classic team,” before realizing that we really don’t, since Hawkeye, Mockingbird, & Wonder-Man are more modern-looking. The sky-cycle set would have been awesome, especially with trick arrows as accessories like the Toy Biz version. I’m holding out newfound hope for classic Mockingbird, after someone on the Fwoosh pointed out that Deathstrike’s arms could easily be reused for Mockingbird. I’d prefer her to have double-jointed arms, but at this rate I will absolutely take what I can get, since it’s be a miracle to get a figure of her at all.

Nutimus Prime 05-28-2021 08:36 AM

I have wanted Cyber for so long. I keep trying to kitbash one but never quite happy. This new BAF Colossus arms will be another try lol.

Spyne98 05-28-2021 08:58 AM

I haven't had a lot of time to comment, but I was able to get my pre-orders in. The AoA wave looks great and it's nice to see Legion too! There are still a few more from that era that I'd like to get, but if this is it, I'd be happy.
I ordered the Spider-Man 2099 too, just because the swirling plastic in the old one make me very afraid that he'll crumble away one day. If they ever do more 2099 figures, I can keep one on my Spider shelf and the other with the 2099 figures.
I am excited for Tigra. I wonder if she'll be in a wave with that classic Hercules they showed off, or it that will end up being some kind of special multi-pack?
I am pumped for the Excalibur set. I hope we get more info soon!
Overall, I'm happy I was wrong about the ML team just showing the Eternals wave (which wasn't shown at all).
Also, yes, I'd like a Cyber too!

I don't know how much this would help, but Target actually has the whole AoA wave still available for pre-order. I know, Target...but I ordered a Disney+ wave from Target and Amazon, and my Target set has actually all shipped. So I'm going to cancel my order from Amazon. Maybe Target is getting better depending on the items? Anyway, Amazon has the whole Villains wave up for pre-order again (shipping Aug 1) for those, including me, that got their Amazon Villians wave canceled. Perhaps they got another shipment coming in.

Thor Laserpunch 05-28-2021 09:24 AM

@Ultra Seven damn straight we are inching closer to a complete team but 3 mainstays still need some proper love. Hawkeye is like a 60 year old character ffs, can he get a decent uncompromised classic figure with some trick arrows, an actual longbow, and some hands to hold everything properly?

P’raps some synergy with Hulu’s MODOK will get us a Wonder Man in the near future. I was thinking similarly about the Lady Deathstrike arms... seems like a logical next step so maybe a complete roster isn’t actually that far off.

MODOK also has me jonesin’ for more low rent and/or obscure villains, like everyone Justin Hammer ever hired, and Master Pandemonium cuz why the hell not. If now is not the time for an Armadillo II baf, when is? Ciegrimite multi-pack with special DMT-laced party punch only available in select states? Clearly there’s a glut of opportunities here.

TheBlueMarvel 05-28-2021 09:41 AM

@Ultra Seven

I thought the exact same thing when I blew up that thumbnail of Colossus. Cyber is likely on the way. Thanks for picking that out of my brain...

@Laserpunch

I'm all for crazy villains especially in the vein of Master Pandemonium, which would necessitate a new Mephisto given their relationship exposed in West Coast Avengers. I'll say it again, Over-Mind (also an Eternal) would make an excellent BAF.

Thor Laserpunch 05-28-2021 10:07 AM

I feel like we’re getting a Mephisto announcement if not in July, then in the second half of the year. For sure. Miss Cleo confirms.

These crazy lesser villains are pie in the sky wishes of course. I mean, in this backwater reality where we still don’t have Graviton, Count Nefaria, or Titania figures, and like several dozen other fairly major villains I’ll take what I can get. I’m just saying there’s no better time than now for mass name recognition of Melter :D

TheBlueMarvel 05-28-2021 10:12 AM

GRAVITON, COUNT NEFARIA, AND TITANIA...

Just wanted to type that out in a manner that Hasbro can easily see.

Where are those handy brand ambassadors when you need them? ;)

Thor Laserpunch 05-28-2021 10:16 AM

They’re out tweeting about how they’re gonna take all our disposable income and then some in the coming months. This post-Hasbro economy is great for pulling the middle class up by the bootstraps that way.

TheBlueMarvel 05-28-2021 10:19 AM

Haha! Dude...

It's possible they'll be store exclusive, though they said this year the Walgreens exclusive would be cosmic characters, Savage Surfer, Nova, Quasar, etc.

In case they miss it, let me repeat it just so there's no doubt. Definitely all needed, two are candidates for little actual work that needs to be done sculpt wise and they're all higher profile mid-level villains. I get we need the A list/primary archnemesis villains and the random low grade goons as well, but outside of Spider-Man and X-Men villains, there's not a lot of in between made thus far. We could also include Attuma, Wizard and Maximus the Mad in that, though they're all possible candidates for single carded F4 retro releases.

M.O.D.O.K. reminded me of so many characters I either didn’t know or forgot I wanted. I’d take all of his drinking buddies (especially Armadillo), Monica Rappacini, & Balder the Brave (despite his lack of screen time, I really was elated to see his existence acknowledged).

I’ve decided this year to focus my collection in on the silver/ bronze age entirely, so I’m absolutely a mark for this stuff. More morts! I’d kill for a whole wave of Luke Cage villains, but that is actually close to impossible.

Personally I'd argue her black and gold costume might be her most iconic, it certainly seems to be her most influential on other media outside of the comics.

I was thinking of that one too. It’s definitely the one you see most character encyclopedias. The black & red stands out to me because of its prominence within the silver age, which is what I tend to draw on personally when thinking “iconic” or “classic.”

Now that you say this, I am wondering if the ultimate intention is to do an Avengers wave with minimal new pieces a la the BOTBG wave.

I'm in the same boat. There's still a ton of 90s characters and looks I want but just looking at some of my collection as it is now, I have not been terribly selective. Silver and Bronze Age is what I want to be anchored to though.

Now that I say that, I realize I need everyone in their late 80s/early 90s duds like Hulk in that brown disco Frankenstein getup and LC in his black jacket and the like. Also, a bunch of SHIELD guys that are probably no longer relevant would be swell.

I think I’m the only person who really cares, but when you said “SHIELD guys that are probably no longer relevant,” my head went to Clay Quartermain. He’d be excellent. I’d definitely take weird brown onesie Hulk too.

Also, a BOTBG-esque Avengers wave would be excellent. Mix of A-list anchor characters, long-demanded C-listers, and a couple of left field characters. My ideal line-up would look like this:

- Captain America (lighter blue like Stuart Green & some others have suggested, also it would be great to have that sculpt available at mass retail, I never found the Walmart release).
- Miss Marvel (first appearance with a Moonstone alternate head; she’s a recognizable A-lister, and my top want for the line currently).
- Tigra
- Hercules
- Beast (y’know, with the classic head people have been asking for)
- Mockingbird (classic; tooling’s pretty much all there)
- Stingray (minimal tooling, favorite of mine)
- BAF Goliath or Giant-Man

Beast could fit in elsewhere, sure, but he’d require literally no tooling (cast the grey head in blue, maybe add in a second more fierce sculpt), and would knock off a major want for lots of people.

Veronica Mars 05-28-2021 12:17 PM

Alternately it wouldn't be hard to do Swordsman, Doctor Druid, Crystal (probably a F4 wave tho), Moondragon or comic versions of Sersi and Mantis

Those are all great picks too! Mantis & Swordsman particularly would look awesome. Moondragon’d be fantastic, but only if they give us the rest of the Infinity Watch. I keep holding out hope for a set with Crystal & Lockjaw.

WallySparks 05-28-2021 12:23 PM

so apparently the Age of Apocalypse Wave 2 Colossus build a figure line will be in stores in October. Fine with that.

i should be catching up on the rest of the Suger Man wave along with the X-Factor Strong Guy wave

Thor Laserpunch 05-28-2021 12:24 PM

@Ultra Seven
Yeah, I'm thinking Quartermain and the post LMD infiltration Nick Fury AoS characters. I lurved that book, the peripheral agents from that era are probably my favorite incarnation of SHIELD.

I’d love to see those guys, particularly with the SHIELD agent army builder that’s apparently coming. I’d also dig a female SHIELD agent body for Maria Hill or Quake (they could throw in a Val De Fontaine head, it wouldn’t be super accurate, but I’d be fine fudging it).

hasbroherofan 05-28-2021 12:50 PM

If there was to be an all-comic Avengers wave I'd like to finally get some more Young Avengers. The ToyBiz figs badly need updates in more relevant costumes.

Thor Laserpunch 05-28-2021 12:57 PM

Down for female agents also, tho Quake seems like a missed opportunity at this point. Her popularity ostensibly peaked with Agents of SHIELD and Contest of Champions a few years back.

In all this talk of easy to do villains, Crossfire is another rank and file operative that can fill in on several shelves, for me I would probably put him with said SHIELD characters though I think he maybe just appeared in one issue of that series. Strucker is another one I feel a dire need for. I have the old Face Off fig but that body is fugly as hell.

TheBlueMarvel 05-28-2021 01:09 PM

Future Imperfect/Infinity Gauntlet/Brown (Burgundy/Mahogany?) Jumpsuit-Wearing Banner Hulk is one I've been waiting a long time for and it would distinguish Hasbro as a Marvel manufacturer were it made. Has it even been done in the pre-Legends Toy Biz line? I don't think so...

I'd also take Pantheon Banner Hulk with the specs in a heartbeat...
