Is there another reveal today?
The retro waves usually have 6 figures and I am still holding out some hope for Destiny, Avalanche or Stryfe.
I could also see a Fitzroy coming out of nowhere.

Someone posted that Cyber was the final reveal. I hope that isn't true.

What a super underwhelming & random group of figures.

Starlord67 06-03-2021 09:40 AM

Well they left me wanting more. I expected one more reveal. I'm excited for most of the wave but Wolverine and Omega Red are passes for me.

That’s how I feel about most of this year so far. I have appreciated checking off some major hole fillers but with no real interest in movie/media figures these assortments are feeling largely pretty blah.

Not to mention they always seem to pop off less wanted versions of characters (Hyde w/ hat, green skin Joe Fixit) or just plain lazy missed opportunities (e.g., a 2 cent paint app stubble on Cyber as mentioned could have gone a long way, or how about those tiny little pupils on toon Green Goblin that essentially made that fig look like a meth psycho?). They got my attention but they’re losing my enthusiasm.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only person who feels this way. Thus far I think I’ve only bought around five figures this year, and from what’s been announced/ rumored, only stand to pick up another ten or so. It just feels really underwhelming, particularly the X-Men offerings, as a fan of neither AOA or HOX.

They’ve seemed to have a lot more of those lazy/ just-off slip-ups of late, and they’re starting to annoy me. Things like Wyngarde’s coat & Karima’s alternate head just come off as them not putting in effort. I mean, it isn’t hard to just take a look at the comics, versus a Google image search, which based on their explanation/ excuse for Omega Sentinel, is apparently their strategy.

Edit: other people have been vocal about this, but it really does stick in my craw how much they joke about our finances. It isn’t the intent, I’m sure, but to me it says: “haha... we know you’re going to buy this crap regardless, so we’re going to make whatever the hell we feel like.”

Thor Laserpunch 06-03-2021 12:07 PM

Was just about to say something along those lines. They must think they’re shooting fish in a barrel but I would guess as they delve more and more into obscure characters that diehards are going to start holding them to a higher standard of quality. You do a character like Xemnu and there’s little chance you’re going to see another toy of him on shelves for a long time, if ever. Why not get it all right on what might be your only shot?

Honestly these dopes really need to hire a full time person to do social media. Not sticking their foot in their mouth is not their forte.

Agreed. I mean, I'm glad to have Arcade, a classic Thanos, and MODOK, but this year has been quite lackluster.

Little to nothing in the case of Spider-Man and all I truly care about at this moment in time from X-Men is Banshee. He could have been the only classic X-Men figure they released this year and I would have been happy.

Although, maybe my disappointment has also stemmed from how bad this year has been personally so far.

Now that doesn't mean I won't be buying Callisto and Wyngarde, as I will, I just wanted to be WOWed by something.

Veronica Mars 06-03-2021 12:26 PM

Does anyone else follow Spector Creative on YouTube? He has videos that go pretty indepth on the Toy Industry and the processes that go into making toys, like the cost of tooling etc

Couldn’t agree more on that point. I can deal with a figure of somebody like Spider-Man being imperfect, because I know I’ll get a few dozen more Spider-Men in my time. But when they announce someone like Jason Wyngarde or Tigra, I’m frustrated when it doesn’t look right because it’ll be a long time if ever before I get another shot at them.

It’s actually why I dread them making my grail figures, because there’s a chance they’ll suck. As an example, classic Marvel Girl was my most-wanted figure in the line for a few years. They announced her, I was thrilled, and then I got a look at the finished product. Weirdly sculpted hair, inconsistent color choice, useless articulation... nothing like the figure that was in my mind’s eye. Conversely, that may be the problem: when they start giving us the figures we’ve been waiting for, they aren’t nearly good enough.

The most annoying part about the lack of appealing product to me is that last year they delivered what is legitimately my favorite Marvel Legends wave ever with the Spider-Man retro figures. All silver & bronze age designs, with tons of attention to detail (although, and I know this is stupid, the Midtown High textbooks with Gwen/ MJ bugged me since neither of them went to school there). Essentially, I know they’re capable of better. Maybe it’s just that this year they’ve chosen to focus the real effort on MCU figures.

Edit: Spector Creative is awesome. Great insight into how the industry actually functions that makes me think before bitching about this line. Particularly loved his pieces on the DCUC line, although hearing that they nearly made the Challengers of the Unknown broke my heart.

Bring on the Bad guys and gal

Lady Deathstrike, Red Skull and AIM Scientist Supreme arrived the other day. The Scientist Supreme is an amazing figure. I am not familiar with the character from comics. He has a great range of motion. Needs some weapons instead of a tablet. Ordering another 1 to try and create a cool Cobra Scientist. The Red Skull with smiling teeth head is scary. That one is going in the extra parts box. The sculpting on the other head is perfect and I like the other hands as options.
Lady Deathstrike's arms have too much sleeves. She is a very cool figure. Needed extra hands that were normal.

hasbroherofan 06-03-2021 01:42 PM

Like I've said before I really don't care all that much when a wave or figure isn't appealing to me because that's just money saved. I'll be picking up Mastermind and Callisto. The others aren't for me but I'm sure there's somebody who'll appreciate 'em.

The Infinity Saga stuff looks like it'll be eating up much of my Legends budget anyway for the next few months, so my wallet is happy for the relief.

That woulda been nice for her to have swappable arms at the elbow.

jwyss234 06-03-2021 02:50 PM

My local Walmart restocked the DIsney+ wave so I was finally able to get Bucky and finish the wings. Now I just need the Bad Guys wave and I’ll be caught up. Well, at least till the Iron Man wave comes out.

I’m stealing this topic from another site but next year is the 20th anniversary for Marvel Legends. Any chance we might see a commemorative wave of Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Toad? I mean Hasbro versions that are an homage to the original 4, not straight up re-releases.

While I'm 100% loving what we got, an extra set of swappable cybernetically patterned arms would have been sweet.

As for non-bladey, retracted hands, you should try the extra hands that came with Moira. To my eye they are nearly, if not exactly, the same skin-tone.

While I'm impressed with the Infinity Saga reveals, I'm spitballing who could potentially appear in another spiritual successor in the future.

- Endgame Professor Hulk

- The Destroyer armor

- War Machine (Iron Man 2)

- Chituari army builder

- Wong

- Ultron drone army builder

- Janet Van Dyne

- Jimmy Woo

- Abomination

I am all in for a Michelle Pfeiffer figure, I'd also like to see Darcy in the line

Any line that doesn’t include a Mickey Rourke Whiplash will be disappointing.

Seconded!

MrJoshua327 06-03-2021 03:36 PM

I’m actually amazed that there was barely any Endgame Rocket merchandise. No Marvel Legend, no Funko pop, no lego. I figured people would want his look with the goggles and red scarf. I could see him in a future wave.

I’m also on board for a Wong but I’m guessing we’ll get one in the 2022 Dr Strange wave.

With the upcoming release of Quicksilver, AOU Wanda is now my MCU priority #1... Still can't get over Hasbro NOT releasing them together in a two-pack... *grumble* *grumble* *grumble*

^This! Though my preferred Michelle Pfeiffer figure would come packaged under a DC Comics label.

Oh me too, best live action Catwoman since the show in the 60's, I heard there was going to be a follow up comic to Tim Burton's movies that will finally answer whether or not she lived

Arcade is pretty awesome but there are a few things I wish Hasbro had done for him. First off, his hands should have white gloves on them instead of being skin tone, so that sucks, but I can deal with it. I do wish they had given him a laughing head though because he's often laughing and not having one just seems like a crime against comicdome. Nevertheless, I love this guy!

As for Lady Deathstroke, Still not a fan of her elbows and her torso articulation is weird. I'm not exactly sure what Hasbro could have done with her considering her design. It would have been nice if they had included regular hands and a sniper rifle.

- AIM drones from Iron Man 2.
- Batroc
- Abomination
- The Ancient One (who curiously has a bootleg head and figure available on AliExpress)
- Kurse
- Whiplash (with bird)
- Malekith

And give me a couple more from other studios past in the Fox X-Men vein...such as...

- Ghost Rider (Spirits of Vengeance)
- Affleck Daredevil (no...I'm not kidding)
- Michael Clark Duncan Kingpin
- Oscar Isaac Apocalypse
- Deathstrike (X2)
- Snipes Blade
- Deacon Frost
- Lundgren Punisher

I'd mention Raimi trilogy figures, but I honestly believe that Hasbro will be giving us those in the near future.
