Thanks. I know the Shaw is accurate, but now that a black and red version of that body exists, I think it will look a lot better for the Black King.

I agree. To boot, I have seen him depicted with that color scheme:

I also cut off the knee pads and took about a 3/8 of an inch off the calves so he isn't quite as tall.

It really sounds like you go the extra mile for your bashes. Impressive. The Selects do offer more detail on their sculpts (Destroyer, this latest Hulk, etc), but that was always the purpose of the line and there are far fewer figs making it more fiscally feasible to do so. That said, I still like the ML Colossus we received. Additionally, I've high hopes for the deluxe line and have said before that I'm willing to pay more for high-end renditions that offer more detail, accessories, size, or all of the above.

Edit: Is it time for a new, even more modern, Strom? I think so.

That Storm is one of my favorites, and I’m not that into her current look, but I really wouldn’t turn down any version of her. The Outback costume, Age of Apocalypse costume, Utopia-era update to her original costume, and inevitable silver repaint of the Lee costume are all a bit higher on my list, though.

Those are all great looks - Storm is the only character I can think of that I would buy any and all looks of (except the looks she wore in "The Arena" storyline). They are all so different and while some are definitely better than others, they're pretty much all good.

Personally HOX/POX era Storm is the only other figure from this modern era I really want, aside from characters we don't have legends of at all. That and AoA are my two biggest wants, but I'd gladly tak the others you suggested as well as her mid and late 90's looks. Less interested in the X-Treme X-Men look but I'd still buy it.

Quick question for anyone who has the new Dormamu, is the red thing on his chest removable? I have a custom in mind and Big D's body is the right color so I wouldn't have to paint much. Just weighing my options. I know Red Skull is the same body, but as I said, coloring and all.

I thought Mohawk Storm was her Outback costume?

During the Fall of the Mutants she grew her hair back out in the time, a year I think, that she and Forge were on their own planet. Shortly after FotM she began wearing her Outback era costume.

yeah- it's just a soft plastic "vest" piece. He's pretty much just a purple Red Skull body with different wrists and booties

I may be dopey but just catching on that with the Wolverine pack being through Amazon, the highly requested and rumored Excalibur pack would likely not be through Amazon. Please don't tell me that it's going to be the SDCC pack.

It’s looking more and more like this will be the case. And man does it frustrate me that shirtless Wolverine will be readily available, but Shadowcat will be a limited release.

Ugh, if that's the case Hasbro did this bass ackwards. Though I guess the Wolverine 5 pack would have even less appeal as an SDCC exclusive.

I’d be deeply frustrated, but conversely, there is something funny about putting out an Amazon boxset that is, at a minimum, polarizing, and then releasing what many had hoped/ assumed would be the Amazon set as a SDCC exclusive. It’ll be even better if Excalibur looks awesome, because then it’s “here’s the thing you all wanted, executed perfectly! Good luck getting it!” Sure, the Hellfire Club was easy to get, but that has to be the only SDCC set that hasn’t been a hassle to acquire.

Which does remind me, I must say that in my time on the forums, this set has got to have been met with some of the harshest criticism of any release I’ve seen. What were some of the other most maligned announcements Hasbro’s made? Top of my head, I’d say Six-Armed Spider-Man was the most universally panned.

TheBlueMarvel 06-07-2021 09:40 AM

I'm not certain why there seems to be this assumption that Hasbro doesn't deliberately seek scarcity. If it's a hard to find retail release, it increases foot traffic and is a boon to their brick and mortar partners. If it's online, the idea is the same for their web partners. Demand for your product is both lucrative and a powerful marketing tool, look what it's done for brands like the iPhone and Playstation...

@Ultra-7

Gamestop's Big-Time Spidey on the pizza-mold landed with a sort of thud. Walgreens Medusa was panned a bit. The Defenders comic set didn't receive a great deal of enthusiasm. The Abomination, Sentry, and Super Skrull waves weren't as heralded as others...

Ultra Seven 06-07-2021 09:46 AM

Oh man, I forgot about the Super-Skrull wave. First Fantastic Four wave in a decade, and it’s 2/3 Fantastic Four, in outfits nobody was asking for.

The Sentry wave was just… perfect. Overshipped, crappy movie figures, and lame comic figures. Outstanding BAF though, at least in my opinion.

Wow.

TheBlueMarvel 06-07-2021 09:54 AM

^Interesting, I'll get one for the suited-body variety alone - however, this very admission is the reason these types of figs have become a cottage industry/line within the Legends line itself.

@Ultra-7

I liked the Sentry too...I have 5-6 of them and thankfully, due to the general hate, I didn't pay more than $30 per...

tierneygreen 06-07-2021 09:56 AM

While by no means perfect, it looks like folks thinking to kitbash Mastermind will have a go-to body to start with. Coincidence?

TheBlueMarvel 06-07-2021 10:06 AM

No, there are no coincidences in the toy-game... ;)

Archangel 06-07-2021 10:29 AM

Found this morning at the GameStop in Grovetown GA. They had more but I could only get one. On sale as well!

:) I do wonder how many Silver Sables were bought as a direct result of that randomly placed Lilandra head.

In any event, my intemperate ass had already pre-ordered the Wolvie 5-pack. So, I'll pick up mister brown-suit, too, then look to fashion a 1:12 scale Inverness Cape somehow.

Sweet. While I'm looking forward to her, I hope this means Maestro is hitting soon, too.

I originally read that name as Morbius and was trying to figure out how that was Morbius.

Looks like some generic background character dude for a display, but definitely not a $23 background character dude for a display.

Ultra Seven 06-07-2021 11:39 AM

Link for the (Target Exclusive) Mobius: https://www.target.com/p/hasbro-marv...e/-/A-81959507

Kain, if Katy is anything to go by, I get the impression Mobius won’t exactly set the world on fire at $23. I’ll definitely pick up a couple on clearance for fodder. Target’s had some tough sells for exclusives this year.

StuartGreen2019 06-07-2021 11:49 AM

An Owen Wilson figure? Wow, that actually looks cool. I might have to order that later. With the suit body appearing to be Hasbro's latest let's-use-this-over-and-over body mold, I am still waiting on Hasbro to make one with the suit jacket closed and turn it into an Armani suit Doctor Octopus with bendable wire tentacles with one neutral head sculpt and one angry head sculpt. It'd be a great addition to fans' collections to finish the '90s Sinister Six team roster.

As for peg-warming figures, Six-Armed Spider-Man was the worst offender. Pre-pandemic, I also saw plenty of Jackal, Dazzler, Spider-UK, Night Thrasher, Prowler, Dan Slott era black costume Spider-Man and Red Goblin sit unsold on shelves every time I went to my local Target and Walmart stores. From what I've read, the Pizza Mold body Negative Zone Spidey wasn't a big seller either.

Kinda looks like he'd be an easy redeco into 'old' Howard Stark
