At least we can all ride out the apocalypse in the style of our choosing. I find that so lovely.

I wonder how many people are kicking themselves for passing on comic based Red Guardian a few yrs ago? He now goes for an avg of $55 on ebay. Gladiator is already pricey on the secondary market so you can imagine the price hike once Hasbro starts making a few other core members of the IG, As far as the Squadron Supreme goes, I have Hyperion, Speed Demon & Knighthawk as my 3 core memebers, hopefully we get a classic Dr Spectrum, Blue Eagle, Power Princess, Amphibian, Skymaster, Black Arrow, Skylark, Nuke & Tom Thumb. As for the IG, I want.. Classic Smasher, Starbolt, Fang, Neutron, Electron, Earthquake, just to name a few. The members of the Squadron & Guard are sorely lacking as are the classic Starjammers.

I am not kicking myself for not picking up Red Guardian a few years back. The figure is boring in my opinion. As someone who mixes MCU and Comic figured from different companies without hesitation, the 1st BW Movie Red Guardian is fine for me. The costume is good and I like the facial expression and beard. He looks Russian!
@Blue Marvel - great images of characters I would like to see as figures as well. I would love an Avengers line based on John Buscema's time on the book.

MeLikeJinx 06-13-2021 06:17 AM

Comic Red Guardian will be re-released I bet... it is just the fascinating natural cycle of Marvel Legends. Like how white Retro Storm was the most desired figure of that retro wave until she was stealth re-releaesd along with Gambit and Rogue and suddenly you could pick her up on clearance for $6.

I do wonder if any of the currently pegwarming AoA X-men will suddenly jump up in price once the 2nd AoA wave hits though... trying to guess what figures to buy and which to wait for the long game is really both fascinating and frustrating. It was so hard for me to hunt down every figure of the Strong Guy wave, but if I had waited I could have gotten every figure except Pirate Deadpool on clearance right now at Gamestop.

The one in the Shang-Chi wave. They also had 18 Shang-Chis, 14 of some dude in a blue outfit, and 14 of their exclusive female character.

I want all of the figs you mentioned, but especially so the ones highlighted.

Honestly, I do a lot of 'future-casting' when grabbing off-color/unexpected characters. I actually wanted Red Guardian, but I definitely grabbed Major Victory (Vance Astro) and Cottonmouth (please also give us Cornell Stokes) with a speculative eye down the road - not because of any deep connection to the characters, but, moreso, due to a want for the larger teams they represent.

Both Buscema bros are some of my favorite artists of all time! I know many might consider their art to be dated or simplistic, but I hold them in the highest regard as setting up a foundation for Marvel-style character looks from the silver-bronze ages and beyond.

The back of the Red Guardian & Melina box repeats the same paragraph five times without translation. How'd that make it to the final product without anyone noticing?

Where the heck do you live that you have 21 IM peg warming? Here in S Tx, I have yet to see 1 IM on the pegs but do see a ton of Katy's, a lot of Shang Chi, some of his dad. the main sellers in this line imo are Death Dealer & IM.

Colorado. However, don't get too jealous, this is the only time I've ever seen this many figures from a wave on the shelves in a long ass time. Usually the shelves are barren after a week, if they get new product in at all. Most of my Targets haven't had any GI Joes since March, if not longer. They also just got in the Power Rangers stuff that came out in March, so I don't expect to see any of the ones that have been out for nearly a month now at all.

J Hernandez has an outstanding figure review of Ultron & Modular IM, this video should put your mind at ease about the hgt scale of Ultron as he is a quarter inch taller than Ironman, hence in perfect scale. I had to pause the vid to just soak in the awesomeness of both figures, especially Ultron!

Modular Iron Man is the bee's knees.

However, Ultron's height and size is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGgd3TnD9BA

Jokes...but there are definitely things that could be improved. A little more height/stockiness (Ultron's a teen next to Thor), the torso ball peg is not to my liking (I get that they didn't want to break up the continuity of the sculpt, but that forward range is nonexistent), those hips (they certainly aren't of childbearing nature - straight C-section for Ultron), and it looks like they reused the fists from the Iron Monger wave which I wish they hadn't (those splayed hands aren't the greatest either).

I'll take it and judge in hand, but I doubt this will make my 'best of' list.

So I decided to read the first issue in the House of X/Powers of X book. I can't tell you which one it was from, House or Powers, since they don't seem to tell you, but I felt lost. I guess I need to read the 100 other stories that come before this to understand anything going on which is weird since it says the book is supposed to be issues 1-6 for each series. Yet, I feel like it's issue 50 or something.

So House and Power are intertwined and both start kinda in the middle of things. The reading order is;

House of X #1
Powers of X #1
House of X #2
Powers of X #2
Powers of X #3
House of X #3
House of X #4
Powers of X #4
House of X #5
Powers of X #5
House of X #6
Powers of X #6

That still doesn't stop me from feeling like these first issues should be well after #1 though as I feel like I walked into the middle of an already ongoing story arc.

You did. It's just their choice of how the narrative unfolds. In medias res isn't used often for a reason, particularly for entire issues like the _ of X series does.

Honestly the entire series feels like the writers binged Doctor Who, spent a lot of time on Tvtropes, and then took a bunch of drugs before coming up with the plot. Which is kinda par for the course when it comes to major X-men stories.

At least we got some nice character designs and resulting toys from it. Now if only we could get some IvX figures, as I'd love a Storm and a Medusa from that storyline. Or even a Kamala from Attilan Rising.

It feels to me like Jonathan Hickman REALLY wishes he was Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman or Grant Morrison, between the purposefully obtuse storytelling and the edgy, morally ambiguous reimaginings of classics characters. I think the trouble is, and this is also my issue with Morrison’s X-Men run, that writing style works best with someone like Animal Man or the Doom Patrol who are without an extensive history full of well-established characters & dynamics. I hate it when writers try to reinvent the wheel.

That said, it IS what finally got us a Marvel Legends Marvel Girl (half-assed as she is) & a Moira MacTaggert. So I suppose no harm no foul.

I agree 100%. I have a Spider-Man head sketch from Sal. It is the only Spider-Man sketch from my Comic book convention days. He was a wonderful gentleman to have a conversation with. He lived in Fairfax, VA where my Dad had a restaurant for nearly 20 years. He and his wife came to my Dad's for special Anniversarys but not while I was working there as a busboy.

Checked mine as it hasn't gone into storage yet and, yes, sounds like you received a QC hiccup. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
