Disney + wave arrived

2 Attachment(s)
Been looking forward to this wave. This is my favorite Wanda figure. They should give us extra Wanda heads without the headband to replace on the other Wanda MCU figures. She is the star of the wave. Had to buy 2x Wanda. My Wife wanted a Wanda and a Loki for her growing figure collection. Zemo is good. A version without the coat would have been better. Winter soldier is a little thin. The face is perfect. Gave Bucky and John a couple of extra guns from the spare parts box. US Agent is ok but the messed up paint apps and the gun glued to the thigh are disappointing. I am surprised how much I like White Vision. They lightened up the weight on the cape so he stands better. I am going to have to order another Loki. Since my Wife loves the show so much, I gave her my extra one. Happy Wife = Happy Life. I had planned to replace the head on another Loki figure. The Sam Cap is ok but they screwed up the shoulders and he has limited articulation due to armor. He needed a another set of hands. Redwing is a piece of junk.

I recognize some of those including Ghost, firebrand, whip/black lash, titanium Man and Melter. Who are the others?

Nevermind...found their names at the bottom of the pictures.

redfox 06-19-2021 07:45 PM

Picked-up the reissue Marvel Girl with the corrected feet at GameStop. I'm not usually one to nitpick, but those sculpt lines on the original feet bothered me something fierce.

Thor Laserpunch 06-19-2021 07:54 PM

Literally wtf those villains are deep… but they are all legit awesome. That Firepower dude looks all kindsa bonerworthy. I’m looking for some kind of suit of that sort for everyday business irl if anyone has a line on a good used one or a fixer upper mebbe.

Hulkwummy 06-19-2021 08:07 PM

Here is my Iron Man villain wish list:

Crimson Dynamo (remake of the 6 inch Iron Man 2 figure)
Mandarin (90s Iron Man Cartoon)
Blizzard (90s Iron Man Cartoon)
Titanium Man (looking like the Marvel Select figure)
Ultimo (90s Iron Man Cartoon)

Wait, what? Did they really fix the feet? It’s hard to tell in that picture, but they still look the same to me. If they did fix them: on the one hand, awesome; on the other hand, what the fuck? Fix Karima. It’s an easier fix on a toy that has less else wrong with it.

Yep, it seems they swapped the initial release's heel sculpt with that of two-pack Storm's for the reissue. Kinda wish they'd had gone with Gwen's to give her a bit more height.

Damn. Now I’m gonna need to track one down. But really, Hasbro, fix Omega Sentinel’s alternate head colouring.

Hopefully they’ll pad out the Iron Man rogues gallery a bit with a retro wave or 2. I know I’m not the only one waiting with bated breath for Blacklash, Melter, new Blizzard & Living Laser, etc.

I could really use a mount for Dreadknight also. Js Hasbro.

I want all of this and even though I'm one of the few that likes the pure energy version of Laser that we received, I also want a classic version. Also, thank you for being one of the faithful that remembers Blacklash. When the movie came out, I argued with a friend who formerly owned a comic-book shop over the fact that The MCU fabricated Whiplash and Blacklash was the actual character from the books. I lost respect for my buddy that day as I let it go out of respect for the friendship, but I couldn't help but attribute some poser points. ;)

I'd add the following IM villains:

While I understand what you mean, I don't think I'm being unfair at all. This isn't so much about Darkstar, Ursa Major, or Red Guardian, figs that all match one another from an era perspective. It's about the odd decision to make an outlier of Crimson Dynamo. Has the BAF design of Crimson Dynamo ever actually appeared in any Soviet Super Soldier or Winter Guard line-up? I guess we'll see what era they are shooting for if/when they provide a Vanguard (the non-Red Guardian version)..

Sunturion. Are you fucking kidding me. I was not aware I needed this most Marvelly Marvel of also-rans.

Space Humungus also is rockin’ mad stylo and makin’ Vision his bitch. That ain’t nothing.

And that last guy: major props for yet another variation on silver metal with concentric rings representing I imagine some formidable robot or cyborg foe or techy battlesuit. I say this with no hint of irony intended: that particular Marvel visual gimmickry will never stop being delightful.

e2a: Fuck friendship frfr. Being factually correct is better. You made all the right calls on that play imho.

(I also want that Iron Man space armor)

As far as "Space Humongous" (LOL), that's Arsenal and the giant is Ultimo...and, yeah, concentric circle armor never gets old with Marvel!

...quiet as kept, I hate Iron Man. LOL But it's a love/hate...or love to hate on:

Thor Laserpunch 06-19-2021 11:34 PM

Lmfao because I never really cared for Iron Man either because he himself is kind of imperialist scum, but his rogues gallery of disgruntled corporate dorks and ugly commies all with gimmicky power suits or experiment gone too far powers will never cease to amuse me. “Roxxon’s sworn protector”… bwahahahaha what a tool!! But even though he specifically fights the most no-potential-to-amount-to-anything-in-the-Marvel-Universe shmoe villains, Stark could also be like the Koch brothers or Mark Zuckerberg if he wanted to, so I at least respect that he has principles.

And Batman for his part in this whole gumbo of comic book wankery isn’t a venal pissant that needs a robo-suit to fight his battles for him. Except occasionally and for good reason, not to fight two-bit gadget thugs.

Ya know, I thought Ultimo was a different looking robo-guy that was a cross between Ultron and Destroyer with Doctor Doom gauntlets and Cable/Winter Soldier/Garrison Kane arms, Forge legs… wait, where was I going with this? Oh yeah, like half the Marvel Universe is circley silver guys. Deathlok. Silver Samurai. That last one feels like a cheat since that incorporates the samurai armor style which predates Marvel by like a minute so I’ll stop there.

There may be a correlation between lateness of evening and streams of consciousness...I know that's how it works with me. ;)

My post playoff ramblings are usually benefited by being deep in my cups..nothing good ever happens after 1am.

No, it’s a weird choice of Crimson Dynamo, that I don’t think ever appeared on a team. It looks fantastic, and was probably chosen for its size and striking design more than anything else. I’m just saying that Darkstar and Ursa Major are more or less era-neutral, and there are several Red Guardians, Vanguards, Crimson Dynamos, and other characters that would fit in fine with them if produced.

Sure, I get it. And I agree that it's a great looking fig, I just don't know what to do with it...

This tho'...is as funny as it is an insightful observation. I'd never really stopped to think too deeply about Tony, as I've never been an invested fan; that was a best friend of mine growing up and he, for the most part, introduced me to Iron Man and his villains. I've always been aware of the whys regarding Tony's popularity. Spending most of my life in a state that has played host to just about every American weapons manufacturer under the sun (many of which are still here), with its fair share of incredibly wealthy denizens, I developed an appreciation for the particular brand of Americana in which Iron Man is swathed. Capitalism/enterprise and war-mongering are deeply ingrained within the fabric of our nation and as American as the proverbial apple-pie. I've joked with friends since high school that CT makes everything from bullets to nuclear subs and, now that I think of it, I'm surprised I didn't encounter more Tony fans among my comic buddies growing up.

Your observation functioned to snap me back to my earlier opinions of Tony, but the "disgruntled corporate dorks and ugly commies" (LULZ it's funny cuz it's true! And been there the whole while as a crazy "AMERICA!" propagandized comic-strip!) expanded on my teenage musings. Now, in fairness, Tony is as much in a twelve-step for war profiteering as he is for alcoholism and well on his way to redemption. But the character still has a long way to go because his pivot toward the angels only went as far as "I, and not the US government, am the only one who can be trusted with weapons of mass destruction." Which, in its hubris, is still a recipe for disaster that I'm surprised Marvel hasn't explored more directly - talk about heel turns that would make total sense.

There is a thesis somewhere in a longitudinal exploration of Tony Stark, his villains, and their threads to the military industrial complex and our ever increasing corporate-state. Good on you for making an illuminating funny!

Bonus questions round! Can we think of any real life examples of rich egotistical warmongers that caused massive amounts of collateral damage with impunity and won the hearts and minds of jingoistic mom & apple pie lovin’ zombie masses? Do I need to play the Final Jeopardy music or do you have the answer already? :D

For 1 million points: do Bernie Bros love Tony? I bet most aren’t even cognizant that they’re supposed to be anti-globalization… or even know what globalization is lolol.

Now that I’m done hating on all Americans and several beloved superheroes, I actually have to say that while I never really cared for Iron Man as previously stated, I have come to like Tony Stark’s character a lot over the years. He is flawed, sure. Perfect people don’t seem that interesting though. My main gripe with him is he is essentially “lawful good” and laws can be wrong because of special agendas, corruption, etc. He’s a hero for sure, but could never be in the same class as Cap or Superman… not simply because he has no “real” powers which is not that uncommon in the super biz, but because he will never have their integrity. But he’ll always be relevant because even when we’re not mired in a Cold War we like to involve ourselves in hot ones and will always have use for our beloved weapons of mass intervention.

Happy Juneteenth everyone! I’m sure TBS is showing Black Panther back to back with Bad Boys II because well-meaning but disinterested caucasians think these things are all connected just because they all involve black folks. Enjoy the day guys, and hey, doordash yourself some nice chicken & waffles from any place with Momma Somebody’s in the name, you won’t regret it. The mac & cheese is a safe bet also. Ttfn!
