Dremmeled down the Ultron head that came with retro Vision & I think it came out pretty good.

Late to the party here, but if the SDCC list is true, I'd need very little. Might pick up the Iron Spider, that's about it.

And I care about the other characters besides Darkseid. That is why I was so pissed with the utter disrespect WB gave Steppenwolf for their dreadful JL movie.

At least, Superman The Animated Series did them justice.

Right on my wavelength. Personally I'm such a fan of Granny Goodness, her Female Furies, and Big Barda herself. I love it whenever they show up.

hasbroherofan 06-26-2021 11:57 AM

Morrison’s JLA made excellent use of the Fourth World stuff as well.

That late 90's Morrison/Porter run did feature some cool Fourth World content and some brief stints of Orion and Barda joining in on the fun. I've always loved when some of the New Gods are sprinkled into DC super-teams. Honestly, I prefer Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire/Sears' Justice League International from the late 80s (for those unfamiliar, great reads) use of Miracle, Barda, and Oberon (not a New God, just a supporting Miracle character) as regular members with their positions on the team feeling more organic and not specifically a tool to introduce Fourth World-themed storytelling. ...and, of course, our introduction to Martian Manhunter's love for "Chocos!"

Whomever is either skipping out on the Guardsman or not buying multiples is missing out!

They come in and out of storylines but they can't carry a series for the long haul.

We will see if the mighty MCU movie captures an audience. I thought Guardians would flop but I was wrong.

This figure is literally perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. I like what the guy above did with the Ultron head from the retro Vision figure, but I honestly consider it a downgrade. This is the perfect Ultron as-is, head and all.

Also, I never really cared either way about the new pinless joints, but they so totally work here. The seamless look really drives home that he's a robot. Great work, Hasbro.

People thought Guardians would flop and they were wrong. People thought Ant-Man would flop and they were wrong.

People kept thinking that Pixar would make a bad movie, and they were wrong. Until Pixar finally went off the rails, made a bad movie, and then finally just became another animation studio churning out good-to-mediocre stuff.

The same thing will happen to the MCU, eventually.

The Eternals trailer didn't grab me at all. Neither did the Shang-Chi trailer. But Marvel's always brought good so far, so I'll at least give them a shot with an open mind.

Dr Kain 06-26-2021 02:44 PM

Funny thing is, even Pixar's worst movies are better than every other studio's best unless they are named Disney or Laika. I do not care for Cars 2, Monster's University, or The Good Dinosaur, but I'll take them over mediocre experiences like Minions, Shrek, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sausage Party.

As for the MCU, they've given us Dark World, which is as mediocre as you can get, so I don't see how The Eternals, good or bad, is going to seal the doom of the MCU.

Not quite what I meant. I just meant that at one point in time, Pixar was infallible; every movie they made was a massive hit and critically acclaimed. People kept predicting that eventually they'd stumble, and it never happened. That's not the case any more, and like any studio, they have hits and misses now...no longer is a Pixar movie a guaranteed audience and critic darling.

Never said that either. Even if Eternals sucks, people will still dig MCU movies. Although with Downey and Evans gone, there IS a big hole that needs to be filled, and I don't think the current crop of MCU heroes will quite pull it off.

I'm honestly curious how The Marvels (AKA Captain Marvel 2) will come off. I'm no Brie Larson hater, but I just don't find Captain Marvel that compelling since she's so overpowered. But the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series looks interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing her on the big screen with Carol Danvers. Although pulling off Kamala's powers in live-action (enlarging individual body parts like fists and stuff) could either be cool or completely retarded, considering how they handle them. We shall see!

Thor Laserpunch 06-26-2021 04:42 PM

Bruh you can’t say retarded any more. It offends the mindless hordes of genetically inferior internet riff raff who struggle to understand context and will surely incur their wrath. Poor bastards aren’t sure what exactly makes them so angry about this word but they don’t need to understand because they’re great at improvised bludgeoning using any random bone or wood debris that may be lying about.

Otherwise agree

Happy Saturday everyone :D

On topic: the retarded, sorta-ok-if-it-was-still-2008 articulation aside, I do not believe DST Ultron will be replaced in my collection by Hasbro, which looks spiffy but I imagine is not as physically imposing on the shelf. Anyone got both?

I have both. DST Ultron does NOT look as good as Hasbro Ultron, nor is it as well-articulated. Hasbro Ultron easily wins, IMO.

That said, DST Ultron is taller, so if that is all you care about, then go for it. Otherwise, Hasbro wins. Easily.

if you want side-by-side pics, let me know and I'll try and I'll try to post them here tomorrow (once I re-arrange my Ultron shelf).

I get what you are saying, I'm just stating my opinion on the matter. Of course Pixar was never going to stay perfect though. That's what happens when you make countless movies. It's no different than any director out there. I mean James Cameron came out rolling with the likes of Terminator, Aliens, and Terminator 2, but then he decided to crap out Titanic and Avatar. For every Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Jurassic Park, Spielberg has ET, AI, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Even Hitchcock was not infalliable. The man did 53 movies, so naturally he's going to have several less than stellar adventures in there.

I disagree on this one because they've still got plenty of others. Holland, Cumberbatch, Olsen, Mackie, and then whoever else they cast in future movies.

For me, the only reason I give a damn about Carol is so Rogue can happen.

I've never been a Carol fan. Give me Monica any day of the week. Though, I have enjoyed the little bits of Khan that I've read.

I wouldn’t mind side by side pics at all. I’m getting that foo irregardless tho.

Basing my opinion more on physical stature as some have previously said in this thread. DST stuff imho always “looks nice” from a distance… on a shelf… in hand the quality is not there in execution. Paint slop, etc. And certainly far from hand candy status with their lame ass articulation. But I do prefer him to be about a head taller than tall Avengers for personal aesthetic preferences and the rest of the stuff is overlookable.

I kinda like the idea of getting a bunch of them as drones tho. Money left on the table if they don’t do a “Pulse” army builder in the future.

ML classic Ultron by a country mile over the MS Ultron. If the hgt is all some of you are concerned about, then yeah, stick with the MS version. That's about all it has on the ML version & the MK8 is a 6 footer in the comics, not 7 footer.

I actually do also prefer the panel lines and silver paint over colored plastic, although finding a Select with good enough paint was….difficult to be sure. Not saying ML sucks or anything, but after this long of a wait for an iconic look for such a central villain and all the bullshit wtf nobody asked for these interpretations figures we got over the past 20 years, I don’t see it as quite a homerun.

I didn’t read the whole convo because I already knew what side I’m on, but wasn’t the whole Ultron size thing properly litigated earlier? :D I like him taller. In that sense, I don’t care too much if that’s specific to certain artists or whatever.
