You guys do know that Venom IS supposed to look like this in the paint used on his body and lips, right? This is Venom from the Fox Kids "Spider-Man" animated series and the paint is correct.
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/72/d8...1b4cafcd61.jpg I realize not everyone is going to be happy with the way this figure turned out, but it's not inaccurate to the source material. The colors really are this bright in the light/daytime on the animated series. I just wish this wasn't an exclusive, I'd love to be able to buy this figure! |
lol
Edit: Not laughing at you, Stuart. I'm laughing at this this reveal in an effort to not feel insulted by this blatant cash grab. This animated series stuff may end up polarizing people if they see it though to its end. Also, I think many people realize that the coloring was deliberate as it matches the card art. |
@TheBlueMarvel - Don't worry about it, buddy, I didn't think you were laughing at me. I'm just curious if the "Marvel MVL Legends Octopus" listing found on Amazon Mexico turns out to be a comic book based Doctor Octopus figure or an animated series figure of Doc Ock. I just wish Hasbro had given us "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" figures of Doc Ock, Venom, Lizard, Alistiar Smythe, Scorpion, etc. from the get-go with the Retro line. As much as I love the "Retro Spider-Man" wave, which remains my favorite Hasbro Marvel Legends wave to date, I would love to see them make figures based on the '90s "Spider-Man" animated series (and the '90s "X-Men" animated series for that matter). Maybe they can make Retro animated figures in future Fan Channel releases and waves? Time will tell.

How did they decide this tragic failure would be priced at $31.49? Imma chuck a rock through Hasbro’s window with my notes attached regarding this new normal.

@Thor Laserpunch - I'm confused. I thought this was a Deluxe sized figure. Aren't the Deluxe figures priced at $32 now due to the price hike? Again, my big gripe is that this Venom figure is a con exclusive instead of being a Fan Channel release or part of a main Retro wave. It's going to be ridiculous to see how high this figure gets re-sold for on Ebay and Amazon, likely at three or four times more than the current price.
Also, if Hasbro's reading, the Omega Red body would've made more sense for the '90s animated series version of Doctor Octopus, given the shoulder pad armor and Doc Ock's muscular physique on that series. |
@stuart I guess it depends what you consider adequate for a deluxe release. Monster Venom baf is understandable at $30-40 MSRP, but we regularly see larger characters like Omega in waves, and with no baf piece I’m not really seeing where the money is going.
I think this could very well hit clearance sooner than later. If anything, people’s aversion to the deco and body may drive up aftermarket prices on the previous comic-based Eddie figs. Love ‘94 animated Spidey, but their take on symbiotes always looked like Dadaist messes to me. Smythe and cartoon costume Chameleon I’d be down for though. |

Like Hasbro recently revealed a Pink Ranger figure that is going to have a paint deco to match the comic books and it looks awful. The intent is irrelevant to the final result. I'm now worried though that the rumored Hobgoblin is also going to include Animated Series shading. |
I paid like $100 for Hobby so I hope the new one sucks :D
In reality, I imagine they’ll just tweak the old Hobgoblin with more vibrant colors. |
They missed the white patches on the back of Venom's hands where his webs shoot out.
https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...an-Venom-2.jpg Personally, I really like this figure. It's fine if others don't like it which makes it a good exclusive. And I don't think this means future Animated Series figures will have cel-shading. Venom's look in the show is so unique with the red and blue that you'll never get it with a regular comic book Legends Venom. Since fans have been asking for a Venom on the Omega Red body and we have a new Venom movie later this year, I think this figure will get a regular retail release later this year. Minus the blue and red shading of course. |

Seriously, is the price a mistake? We just gonna let that ride?

Cuz they can charge it and people will pay. Also, it will seem like a bargain when it goes on clearance even though they probably already thought of that, the crafty imps.

Also, Venom is up on Pulse but not available for preorder yet. https://hasbropulse.com/products/mar...series-venom-2 |
… Kinda indicates strongly that the rationale is “whatever we think we can get out of people,” not cost of production.
