Jack "King" Kirby!

Wrong Steppenwolf but wow, that is a lot of Parademons. Nice display even if it is missing the big man himself.

Not wrong, different. That Steppenwolf actually does show up in the comics. I have the original Steppenwolf also, but I like that one better. Had you said something about robot Mantis, I would have agreed. Robot Mantis, represents "Superpowers" fiction and never appeared in comics (as far as I know). I just thought I'd throw him in because he looks like an altered parademon.

Added bits:
There's no way I could have 30 Parademons and not have Darkseid...I prefer him on his own stage, but I added a pic of Uxas and his uncle, a pic of him and one of his sons, and a proper pic of him center stage.....I would have added them earlier but you can only have 10 attachments.

Dr Kain 05-18-2014 03:44 PM

I didn't say anything about Mantis since you had the real one there. You didn't have the real Steppenwolf there. Love the idea of using a smaller Darkseid to represent the younger one.

Curious though, when did that Steppenwolf appear in the comics? Because I have all four volumes to the Fourth World Omnibus and he never shows up looking like that.

According to wiki, he was featured with a new costume redesigned by Kirby to resemble the Super Powers figure in New Gods V2 #6.

Steppenwolf (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Although, I wasn't referring to that period....I was actually recalling the more recent times I have seen him show up looking like the Super Powers version. It was hard to find the images, but they are out there...You'll see I have added what appear to be two "Who's Who?" images featuring the King's art (in the second pic you'll find him hiding out under Darkseid's platform - where's Waldo?! lol and a bust-like helmeted pic to the far right) and a more recent image from a comic I cannot name. Its cool that you noticed what I was going for with the smaller "dark-suited" Uxas...that's actually why I bought that version years ago. Kudos!

does anyone have any of the new Designer figs and if so would you mind doing some size comparison shots for me with any of the designers and a DCUC

Penguino 05-18-2014 09:35 PM

Not my picture but here:

Looks Great!I personally think the SP Steppenwolf looks better there, so as to not have too much green in the display.

In brightest day....

CMIII....10 of each? lol kidding. I have 5 Manhunters, which is far less than the Parademons I've collected. With the demons, I always knew I wanted as many as I might imagine coming out of a boom-tube. I got really lucky and scored two lots of 7-8 for both the red and green demons, then I filled out the ranks over a long period through strategic buys.

Thanks Black Arbor. I try to (with varying degrees of success) achieve a personally pleasing photographic aesthetic. While I'm far from anything remotely resembling a photography artist, I do seek to create some balance and a theme for displays. The color was not my motivation for choosing that 'Wolf. Height (pointy hat on the green 'Wolf which would have obscured whomever I placed behind him) and a preference for "look" (more harsh and menacing/Apokoliptian looking than the almost medieval nobleman look of the original source material).

CMIII 05-19-2014 12:30 PM

thats a nice starter set of Green Lanterns (if thats all you have of them)

Goldengreg 05-20-2014 05:10 AM

Great pics, BlueMarvel!

I love the composition!

TheBlueMarvel 05-20-2014 06:26 AM

Thanks Goldengreg....I'm just glad people appreciate them! We all love these toys!

CMIII 05-20-2014 08:12 PM

now all you need is to give Darkseid or Uaxs a rake so he can do his farming (thanks New 52)

Figure I'll go with 4 more Red Parademons and go with the same number of Manhunters

TheBlueMarvel 05-21-2014 05:59 AM

Thanks Falconhood...it took a while to round them all up.

CMIII: I am one of those people waiting for Jim Lee and Geoff Johns to admit that their brainchild has gone off the rails and a-reboot-of-the-reboot-back-to-the-old-"boot" is in order.

Your waiting for that to happen?!?!?!?!?!?! things that will happen first... Hell Freezes over.. Mattel Admits they made a Mistake with DC Properties.. the North and South Koreans make peace and become a Unified country

TheBlueMarvel 05-21-2014 11:12 AM

Oh yes, I am aware of how unlikely it is...especially given the egos of the two people in question. However, the reboot was written with an "emergency self destruct button" built into the story. Get rid of that Flash story ("Flashpoint") and the universe reverts to normal. At least that's my perspective on the matter...

As far as Hell and freezing...Some believe Hell to be frozen already and the "burning" attributed to it is the "biting" sensation of cold and ice. Mattel will admit their mistake by bringing back DCU in 2-5 yrs. And, contrary to popular belief, there is/was? a faction of South Korean youth (I read an article about a college student movement a couple of years back) that would like to see reunification between the North and South.....so ya' never know!:p

I could see them bringing back DCUC (God I hope they do) in a few years, a la the "Return of Marvel Legends!" we got last year, and as for the reboot-reboot, I'm secretly hoping this whole "Future's End" comic ends with Batman Beyond going back to the pre-Flashpoint DC universe, and we just get a do-over from there. On your Lantern setup though, it looks great! But if I may add one thing: you should make a custom scythe for your Nekron, 'cause I don't see Mattel bringin' out theirs anytime soon.

TheBlueMarvel 05-21-2014 03:30 PM

Black Arbor: Yeah, that's where I was going with the idea that after a few years Mattel will bring back DCU. I also really do hope Lee and John return the DC Universe to what we knew. Using Batman Beyond to achieve this end would be a really cool way to do so. That's a good idea you bring up about the scythe. It is glaringly missing from the figure. I have watched a number of DC Direct Blackest Night Nekron figs. The fig in question still sells for more than I'm willing to pay especially considering I only want the scythe. It makes me wonder why Mattel never included it with the C&C fig. Nekron's hands are made to hold something....weird.

CMIII 05-21-2014 03:53 PM

I was more saying that the New 52 stay (BTW Birds of Prey has been cancelled) Jim Lee is probably the greatest man with Lee in his name since Stan, in the comic book world. Geoff Johns has done an amazing job with the Lantern stuff. For some reason you pair the two and it's like water and fire. I doubt the DCUC style stuff will be back any time soon due to Mattels management but thats all as Aunt May put it in Spider-Man 2 "Water under the bridge or over the dam, or where ever you like it"

What gets me is Mattel makes weapons for He-Man left and right they made that big staff for Trigon how hard would it truly be to make the Nekron Scythe

Andy Carruthers 05-21-2014 03:59 PM

Has anyone else's Green Arrow from the Arrow TV 2-pack got derpy eyes?

Well, considering it's Mattel we're talking about here, I'm just glad they didn't pack it in with the Bound Doomsday figure they're making, haha. But if you're okay with non-official pieces in your collection, making a cool scythe would be really easy and cheap. Fun too!

I'd bet! I don't even think I've seen that many in my life. And they aren't cheap, either. It's a definite labor of love!

Byrnes 05-22-2014 07:42 AM

Has this line gone cold in the market. I can't hardly give the couple figures I have away. I know they are not rare but Batman, Ridder and a few others were hot once. Is it because the line is ending/ended for the most part?
