Definitely not a regulation military haircut on the unmasked head, and as blasphemous as this is gonna sound to a lot of you, the original Toybiz figure shits all over this in aesthetic, gorilla limbs and all. I appreciate what Hasbro is trying to do here, but I feel they missed the mark entirely.

Good for those who missed on the 80th, but I'm still waiting for Hasbro to put out that one penultimate figure of Cap. This one just feels way too close to one's previously put out.

As much as I respect your opinion, and your points about the pinless joints and shoulders not withstanding.... I can confidently say this Cap dunks on the OG Toybiz 6 ways to Sunday, and that Cap was my first foray into super articulated figures!

Spyne98 10-04-2021 10:03 AM

I'm very excited for the new Cap. And here I thought the 80th Anniversary one would be the last one I ever had to buy haha.

hasbroherofan 10-04-2021 10:57 AM

The collective sweating from all the scalpers charging upwards of 80 bucks for the original version on Ebay is giving me light this morning.

En Sabah Nerd 10-04-2021 10:57 AM

I want to be excited for the new Cap but with a deluxe price tag and not much to show for it I might still be sticking with my ol' Wolf Cap unless I can catch this one cheaper.

I've had no issue with the clip on the shield breaking. What are you people doing to break your shield clips?

The hair on the unmasked head looks like Steve from the comics. Why would I want him to have some military buzz cut?

I'm not sure what to tell you, but this looks like the greatest Cap figure ever made to me. He's a perfect representation of the silver age comics I have been reading sans the Jack Kirby square chin.

Totally concur. Even though Steve was a soldier, he was never really depicted with a military regulation buzz cut. And no, the Gorilla limbed TB version is in no way shape or form superior to this figure. That's just nostalgia talking.

Archangel 10-04-2021 11:54 AM

The only shield I’ve had break is my Hydra Cap Shield…and it didn’t take much. I prefer the straps over the clips.

Mimicboy 10-04-2021 12:21 PM

The new Cap is cool, but an easy pass for me. I am really digging all the cool accessories though.

Now I just want to know if we are finally getting a Toad figure! It seems possible they are recreating the first wave. I won't expect too much accessory wise for Toad, but hopefully we can get at least one long tongue alternate head.

Starlord67 10-04-2021 12:31 PM

I thought I had my definitive Cap ...I was WRONG...so wrong. Not crazy about the elevated price but I have to have this guy! Bring on Toad!!!

I hear you there! So happy for that!

I really wish they'd give comic Cap's shield the straps. It works so well on the movie ones.

I was just thinking that if they are going to homage the original wave, we have to get a Toad. I'd be so happy! I still have that original one, and I'll probably always keep him, but I would love an updated one. Maybe where he's not always holding a toad.
The rest of that wave was Hulk and Iron-Man, right?

I’ve been trying to sell mine the last two weeks. Not scalping, literally starting it at $0.99 as I would prefer a more modern Cap. First auction went for $58 and the guy never paid. Most recent one went for $137.50… I don’t think that guy is paying either! Haha. I literally had no clue people were charging so much for him. I was just redoing my displays, and he didn’t make the cut.

And therein lies the rub. Most bidders are inflating prices based on their own wants and lack of impulse control, completely independent from any perceived/or real 'scalper' activity. I've had higher sales prices on eBay result from starting at 99 cents than when I chose a minimum bid. However many Sentinels I auction off (whenever they arrive), I can expect not to have to do anything other than simply list the auction to see the price skyrocket.

As far as fraudulent bids go, I usually add the disclaimer that I will cancel the bids of people with less than five transactions...

Dr Kain 10-04-2021 04:39 PM

No idea why Toad of all people would be a choice for this wave when there are more important characters to cover, but the biggest issue is them sticking such a lackluster character with a $32 price tag.

It's strictly a theory at this point but the idea is that Hasbro would recreate the lineup of Toybiz's very first Legends wave which was Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, and Toad. Hasbro has not confirmed this to be the case, I've seen a conflicting theory that Hasbro's lineup will include a new classic Hawkeye as the Toybiz version has been frequently sighted on the background shelves in recent Hasbro streams.

hasbroherofan 10-04-2021 05:52 PM

For that price I'd like Toad on an all new sculpt at the very least. Maybe an alternate head with an elongated tongue.

He looks so great, Hasbro even wants you to see him through the shield.

I don't remember silver age (or any age) Cap having big holes in his shield. For a $32 figure, it should include a shield without those holes in it.

I don't see the issue. The effects pieces weren't going to magically attach themselves.

The issue is that if you don't want Cap's shield to have any effects attached then it will have three notable holes in it.

That Captain America is a must-buy! I am disappointed by the holes in the shield, but I don't mind it. Seeing the blue energy accessory reminded me of the old Toy Biz "Spider-Man: Electro-Spark" figure where the story on the back of the box said Cap's shield is supposed to get charged with electric energy after getting zapped by Electro.

However, the perfect Captain America head sculpt still eludes me: smiling Cap, preferably based on John Byrne's artwork. Please make it happen, Hasbro!

I'm curious to see who else makes the cut for Hasbro's 20th anniversary Marvel Legends wave and if new figures for the Hulk, Iron Man and Toad make the cut or not as characters for the toyline. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sold separately Hulk figure that isn't a Build-A-Figure. We'll see.

Plus it''d be VERY easy to make the electric piece and the ricochet effects attachable without pegs

StuartGreen2019 10-04-2021 09:06 PM

@Black Arbor - I agree. They could've magnetized the pieces to fit onto the shield. Maybe they'll give Cap a new shield without holes for the eventual re-release after 2022. Regardless, I can't wait to add this Cap to my collection.

That seems like a silly nitpick. At the end of the day, they are still toys. Real people don't have cuts in their shoulders, elbows, knees, ankles, and crotch area, but toys do. Just pretend they're not there like we do with other things on toys.

Man, I'm sorry to see that people are backing out of the sale like that. That sucks. And selling after the fact isn't scalping to me, especially if you start at a $0.99 bid. I hope it sells and you make some money! Good luck!

I get why the holes are there, but I'm a little surprised that Hasbro didn't include little filler pieces for people who might want to display a regular shield. I have a ton of extra ones from old Caps, so I guess I can use one of them. It still feels a little odd. Not a deal breaker, but not my favorite aspect.

Magnetizing the shield would have been a great idea! Or have the blast effects be able to wrap around the rim of the shield. Granted, the single bullet effects wouldn't work that way. I suppose there's not perfect solution. I'm glad they aren't using the throwing effect bit. I feel like there was no good way to use that.

Not to mention the red paint comes off the throwing effect and ruins whatever it is touching, I think the clear plastic they used does not seal properly or something. But both throwing effect pieces I have live in separate ziplocks after ruining my Hulk's tattered shirt...

The red paint even stuck to back of the shield that was displayed, so it will stick to other stuff over time.
