I do agree that the full interviews should've been done separately. I hope this is the first and last time we get multiple interviews in a Marvel Legends video segment. This 2 hour video could've easily been 45 minutes if they just did the reveals, but I have a feeling that even if they had, fans still would've been disappointed, so it would've been a lose-lose in either format. For the next live-stream video, I do hope we get some more reveals, especially since we have the 20th anniversary figures for Hulk and Toad confirmed, more "X-Men: The Animated Series" figures and the inevitable 60th anniversary and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' based figures for Spider-Man. |
So overall, a pretty lackluster day for me too. The product all looks nice, but very little I am interested in. Retro Scarlet Witch is exactly what most people figured and exactly what I did not want. Vulcan and Maggot (teased) hopefully confirms the rumors for the next X-men wave but not the most exciting reveals. The X-men animated figures are exactly what I personally did not want (redos of the main team characters).
The best news of the day for me was definitely the confirmation of Toad. Yaaaas, Toad! |
Does anyone have the links on Amazon to the 20th anniversary Captain America and the Retro Scarlet Witch? The links on the main page direct me to the Amazon home page itself, not the actual figures.

See if this works. I may not personally want her but I hope she sells super well so that Hasbro wants to make more Scarlet Witch figures! |
@Mimicboy - It does, thanks! Now I just need to find the link for the 20th anniversary Cap on Amazon.

Rounding out the villains I'm quite happy to see are a Bronze age Zemo, Vulcan and Knull. The Iron Man people are somewhat confused about is Silver Age Iron Man. The 80th is actually Bronze Age Iron Man, technically known as Iron Man II, the Iron Man armor Rhodey rocked...and I'm not even an Iron Man fan...lol |

Then again, if Zemo is the start of a Walgreens villain line, we may see (or not see as the case may be) some of those....hoping/not hoping it's some of the ones that have been requested quite a bit. Also still holding out hope for more retro F4 figures later next year, single carded - Crystal, Wizard and Attuma mainly. By count though I think we had 13 6 inch figure reveals, which isn't a small amount actually. It's just not a lot of characters that haven't been immortalized in plastic. |
I like the retro Scarlet Witch except I wanted metallic paint.

Well, underwhelming showing for me personally, but D’Spayre & Zemo are great reveals. Love the deep cut choice of character for D’Spayre, will totally be displaying him with Man-Thing & Cyclops (X-Men 144# was always a favorite of mine). Nothing else that strikes me, but I’ve been cutting back anyway.
Repacking the Sam Wilson Cap in a two-pack seems like an odd choice. What’s new/ different? I can’t discern much. Edit: D’Spayre was a fan vote winner? Odd, as happy as I am to have him, he wouldn’t even crack my top fifty. I can’t imagine him being high on a lot of people’s lists. Not complaining, but definitely interesting. |

The age old adage that correlation doesn't always imply causation seems to apply here. There has been some consistency with characters recieving overwhelmingly routine calls for release getting made, resulting in some 'squeaky wheel' logic. However, there's an equal, if not greater, preponderance of 'WTF-batshit' Frogman and Xemnu (no offense, fans, with D'Spayre, I join thy ranks), especially as of late. If anything, I think a host of randomized factors play a role in what gets made. Anniversary buzz in ancillary collecting communities (75th and 80th comic benchmarks along with complimentary 'toons), upcoming movies and trending themes in the books seem equally weighed alongside fan polling and popularity. "Dr. Strange has a movie coming up, let's get out the classic version people have been asking for and a rando villain..." At this point, same as with Blue Marvel, I'm just happy to see what I want whenever they get around to it. |

I'm mostly underwhelmed by the reveals. I'd get excited for Zemo but stores around me still haven't even gotten Nova yet so I'm not looking forward to getting to repeat this frustrating process some more next year. I exactly predicted what the retro Wanda would be but I already have the three-pack version and I was hoping the new Vision would be a phasing version of his classic colors not a solid white repaint of the old Target three-pack figure (complete with the same toe-feet). MCU Winter Soldier redo is definitely appealing though, I haven't cared for any of his other recent figures. I am interested to see how they handle 20 years of Legends Hulk. Will he be the 80th figure again or will they repurpose the MCU smart Hulk into a comic figure? Either way I am concerned that with Cap and Iron Man being charged as $32 releases that Hulk will be around $40. |

(Who am I kidding, I'd still buy it haha) |

We can't always get what we want, all the time. If anything, and it looks like 2022 is going to offer less of what I'm after, I should be grateful, since I'm scaling back on purchases. Having 50-60 characters I'd be interested in would not help that. 2 out of 13 would be in line for what I'm hoping to cut back to over all. |

Why doesn't the Jubilee head with the glasses pushed up have her trademark earrings like the other head?
|
Maybe I'm stretching a little bit with this idea but hear me out. Looking at the back of the 20th Anniversary Captain America, it reads:

I know that packaging write up may simply reflect the choices the writer made. And there are characters in the original Series 2 and Series 3 that've we've received updates of lately such as the Fantastic Four members. But why not have 20th Anniversary Series 2 and Series 3? Series 1 will be out in early 2022 which leaves the rest of the year open. The Series 3 Namor hasn't been updated. coughcoughupdatebenaffleckdaredevilcoughcoughcough . Doom could come with alternate heads for an unmasked Doom and the Doombot, the variants for the original TB figure. http://marvellegends.net/MarvelLegends/ML02/ML02.jpg http://marvellegends.net/MarvelLegends/ML03/ML03.jpg |
I remember reading the Marvel Legends 20th anniversary figures were supposed to be like 12 or 13 figures and/or sets, similar to the rumored 60th anniversary Spider-Man wave next year. I don't know if Series 2 will be the exact roster from the old Toy Biz wave, since characters like the Human Torch and the Thing just got Retro releases (though a trench coat, hat and sunglasses alternate version of Thing would be a must-buy for me). I'm curious to see how Hasbro is going to handle the 20th anniversary Marvel Legends wave and the 60th anniversary Spider-Man wave next year.
For the Spider-Man wave, I could see a few newer characters such as Kindred and Mr. Negative getting sneaked in with popular classic characters like the Chameleon and/or Doctor Octopus, and lesser-known classic characters such as Molten Man and the Looter. Maybe they could even put in some characters from the old Spider-Man Classics wave like the Rhino or Man-Spider. It'd be a great way to get a new classic red costume Daredevil figure. |
Yeah, the rumour on the Fwoosh was that there would be thirteen 20th anniversary figures, which exactly correlates to two waves of 4 and a wave of 5. Interesting thought...

20th Series 2 *Namor - new figure, same costume used on the Series 2 TB figure *Dr. Doom - Super Skull wave Doom with unmasked Doom and Doombot alt. heads *Human Torch - Opaque/painted fire effect *The Thing - Trench Coat version (great idea Stuart, I really want this version now!) 20th Series 3 *Ghostrider - The TB figure looks bland to me so I'll say "a Ghostrider" will be included *Thor - 80th Thor with blue discs on chest and dirty/grimy boots. *Wolverine - same as the other Tiger Stripe Wolverines but new head and deco to match TB figure. *Magneto - If they have a sense of humor about it, it'll be made on the same body as the Series 1 Iron Man revealed today. If not, it'll probably be the 3 pack Magneto. *Daredevil - pretty self explanatory. The only thing that MIGHT change is Daredevil in Series 3. Given that half his face is covered, I would think that they wouldn't have to get Ben Affleck's likeness rights to make the figure. But I don't know enough about that subject to say for sure one way or the other. if they couldn't make movie Daredevil, then my guess for a replacement is Goliath from Series 4. That particular version has never had an update. |

I don't know if they'd do Wolverine and Magneto for the Marvel Legends 20th anniversary wave, since Wolverine is getting an "X-Men: The Animated Series" figure and we may or may not get a Magneto for the animated wave. We'll see what Hasbro does. |
I got excited for one reveal: D’Spayre.
The isssue of Dr Strange (drawn by Michael Golden) where he tortures Strange after having lost Clea is a classic I’ve read many times. My most wanted character now is Moondragon. My favourite figure shown in the whole Has con has to be Fiona the croc. What a beauty. |
Re: the idea that Hasbro would continue to directly remake the first three Toybiz waves.
I really hope not since a number of those characters are already up to date. Hell the retro FF wave isn't even properly out yet so the notion of getting another Johnny so soon feels like a squandered slot. |

Why wouldn't Hasbro go to this well with increasing frequency? It's cheap, requiring in most cases only a repaint and newer collectors have created cover with the notion that Hasbro is altruistically blowing up secondary prices. The reality of situation is that if Hasbro can sell you the same figs for their rising prices with no new tooling (or skin in the game), they'll gladly do so and it has little to do with being "nice." As with so many things, this is the new normal. |
