I mean, if someone is gonna pay triple retail for a toy can you really be mad at the guy selling it? I direct my anger at the store when I can't find something. That's just smart business. Ive done a bunch of deals on the Ark (with some great folks) and have never tried to rip anyone off. If I have something that the homie is gonna give me $10 for but this other dude is gonna give me $70.... sorry homie.

Like I said, not directed at anybody. I don't want no problems. I love yall, have a good day and God Bless... one.

Yeah bro that would be considered a scalper. Specialyy to a community like this one where everyone is looking out for each other. Basically if u know whats hot and u go out and snag every single figure on the shelve in order to sell it without allowing someone to get a chance to get it is a scalper. Those guys u see waiting outside target and walmart upon opening doors that RUN to the toy ikse=scalper! Ive worked at TRU and target ive seen nasty shit, You seem mad cool and i know if one of us really wanted a deadpool i knew u would hook it up at cost, right? :(

He would. I've done enough trading with him to know that. I get what he's saying like majority of us on here want what we want to collect and sometimes the best way to get what u want is to offer trade bate. Hot new figures off the press and you can't find it, but I can, well I'll grab you 1 if u are willing to trade me x in return. I like doing stuff like that. Ersico helped me find and complete the Walmart Avengers figures, JackieBoy has helped me find some decent ML, Dynamite has helped me find the new turtles, etc I'd rather trade for items off my want/wish list, then make $$ of selling a figure or 2.

I find the exception to be older items, aka not sold a retail. Hellboy toys I'd love to have, but damn you pricey.

Black Dynomite 09-07-2012 06:45 AM

I guess. It can't be absurd if someone buys it. Just my thoughts. Lord Marvel is a cool guy, doing what he does. That doesn't mean the dude making a profit is the devil does it lol? Im new to collecting and just never knew there were toy buying guidlines. You know, that is what we are all talking about at the end of the day. A toy. I figure, if it's something I want, and Im supposed to have, I will find it at a price I am willing to pay. If I am only willing to pay $10 maybe it will take me a bit longer to find than the guy who knows his area will never have said item and he is willing to $70. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything. Im not arguing against your opinion. I just think this hobby kinda makes us all lose sight of reality a bit. I guess that's the point though.

:) I was just asking a question about the term. I have traded Maked Dakens and Big Time Spideys (lol in thier primes) on this site and sold on Ebay straight up and for no more than $25 shipped respectively. I just recently traded a SDCC Cliffjumper for... shoot I dont even remember. I know it was something I inda wanted but the Arker wanted the TF more. I guess Im just trying to find out who "the scalpers" are. Its starting to sound like the Illuminati to me lol.

Your right at the end of the day it is a toy, which means you shouldn't have to pay the price equivelant to groceries for the week. Who would throw out a number like $70 bucks off the bat? unless you are offering it for said price, if it is new and retail is $15-20, I don't see anyone offering more than 20 bucks over retail, of something that is still in production and you could possibly find later.

TheDub 09-07-2012 06:55 AM

And yet you have Hot Toys that sell for over a hundred just off the assembly line.

Lol, that is a different story, now if we were talking $600 for a $300 toy=scalper

While he's still buffer than I will ever be and he's only 13 (which is impressive for him sad for me) he is a great figure! Glad I picked this up! Grab him on sight if you are lucky enough to find him.

Minor gripe...his neck looks ridiculous from the side profile like the very first wave of MU figures. I hate that giraffe neck BS, lol.

Thanks for the comparison shots. This (and the pics I snipped) is all the review I ever need. I hate when people make videos and spend twenty minutes showing you every side of the package and making lame jokes.

I think I'm the opposite. Miles was the one I was interested in until I saw more pictures once he hit stores and people started posting him. Knowing me I'll still get him if I see him, but I don't think any out of the way trips to Walmart are in my near future.

I personally couldn't give a shit what other people do with their time and money, so it doesn't bother me, but I'd say you just defined scalper.

My point is that you dont have to pay the price equivelant to groceries for the week. Just don't buy it. $70 was just a number I used to exagerate my point. As said before, just my thoughts. Don't see why anyone would get so touchy over some dudes opinions that he possibly will never meet. When I see the term scalper I laugh because about 99% (anyone with more accurate math feel free to correct me) of Toyark members would fit the general "Toyark description" of a scalper yet the term keeps being used when someone can't find something. Blame TRU, Target, Hasbro, any company who actually is at fault. Don't blame John Doe because he saw 3 Tickle Me Elmos and was smart enough to buy them and sell them at the right time.

Case in point. There is a long list of toys I want and have a set price I will not go over for each. Im not gonna get mad every time a Deadpool figure is sold for like $100 (again, just a number). I know personally I will not pay more than $20 for the figure and was always willing to wait until another was made or I would never own it. That's just me though. Anyway, Im done with the topic.

I don't get mad or call everyone scalpers, you can look at my posts I never blame scalpers for anything. I was just responding to your original question you asked and gave you a reply that what you posted was the definiton of a scalper and gave you supporting points. If I can't find something, I either wait or just give up on it. I don't get angry at the world. I need the new ML Deadpool and MU Professor X, I am not calling everyone scalpers and staying pissed off, I'll wait until I find them or find a decent price, if not oh well. I'm not a completionist so it does not bother me, but seriously you asked a question and I gave you an answer. The definiton of a scalper is a person who resells shares or tickets at a large or quick profit, which is what exactly you described.

Optimus Vader 09-07-2012 08:07 AM

I just assume if someone is scalping toys then they must be hurting.

behindthemask 09-07-2012 08:10 AM

I think there's things people forget. There's the price you pay for an item. There's the going ebay/amazon/online market prices, there's retail prices, and then there's this is what I think it's worth price.

Example ML xforce Deadpool, online price $25-30. retail $16-19.99 range, say what you paid is $25+15 shipping, if someone asked to buy it off me, I have to be the dick and say $40 rather then $20 because I spent the extra getting it shipped, but because it can't be found retail the guy asking to buy it will pay the extra.. now does this make me a scalper? Also factors to consider is time, effort and gas, Maybe the guy selling the figure had to spend $10 in gas to drive to a mall, fight through crowds of people, search through isles and pegs until the item is found, wait in line, then drive back home, take the time to take pics, write a description, then package, label and ship, which means another drive to the post office and back, all for maybe $10-20 profit, or in the case of LordMarvel, No profit! I can't expect everybody to do this as people would be broke and homeless, losing $$ on every deal. Yes it's a nice feeling knowing toys are in good hands and that you helped someone find an item of want/need, but at the same time I feel I should break even or make a lil extra for my efforts. Now I don't plan on being rich of my little deals and trades, but a few bucks to put towards my grocery bill or gas $$ is all I want lol. Also 80% of the $$ I make off selling/trading toys I reinvest in more toys.

Scalper is not far from friend who helps you find items you can never ever find. Lots of ebay sellers selling deadpool xforce for $20ish with exact shipping and to me that's fine. But the guy who sells the same figure and puts on super rare, ultra hard to find, etc and then adds a $300 pricetag, plus $100 to ship makes me want to vomit. But when you deal with super rare items like Dragonman then honestly you can ask whatever the hell you want as it's super hard to come by and there is no exact market value, prices of what they sell for varies from reasonable to very very high. but just because you ask $600 doesn't mean anybody will pay that. The person who is rash in decision making skills/ dumb enough to pay the price is just as bad as the scalper as it gives other sellers the notion that people will pay that price. Now sometime bidding wars will make a regular figure get to extremes such as masked daken, I remember seeing someone pay $2-300 for him.

That is understandable, no one is saying lose money on what you paid, but if you did find it at retail for $20 and sell it for $70 as an example, that is not right. If you added gas, shipping and the half hour you put in to taking a picture, posting and all that, your looking at $45-50 max.

Greenskar 09-07-2012 08:15 AM

I call out scalpers only when I see it actually happen. When you see a guy and his gf clearing the pegs of every ML back when wave one was first released and then do the same with comic packs from MU and you call them out and say dude can I just grab one out of the four of the same figs you got in your cart and he tries to sell it to you instead before he's even paid for it....That's a fuckin scalper and if you don't just grab it out of his cart at that point and say "fuck you, do something", at that point, then you might as well just give him your wallet.

Lol, please don't have fights in the aisle of TRU, I knew the guy wasn't going to do anything about it so I called his bluff. But the point was I wasn't gonna let him be a complete douche with me there. I got my figure out of his cart...and instead only got raped by TRU who sells ML for $18.99. Victory?

This is not an exaggeration, true story that has happened twice for me and once by Symbiote, but Symbiote already had the figs he was planning to scalp he was just appalled that he finally watched it happen.

True, and I have always agreed with that. There is no way to know that the reason everything is gone is because scalpers, that is silly. It could have been a fellow arker who was just quicker. I know in Austin, we have quite a few collectors here, so I always assume wolverine2281 was just here lol.

One of my downfalls in life is not leaving well enough alone. *sigh...

How do you determine what somebody else's gas, shipping and blah blah blah is worth? Lol you, Alchemist559, can sit here and tell what my selling criteria should be and actually give me a cap too? Im really not one for internet arguments (Im new to posting on forums as well) but you are trippin dude. You can not tell ANYBODY they are not right under any of the circumstances brought up here.

Greenskar that story is a trip. I mean, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do but I know one thing. If anybody even acts like they are going to take something out of my cart AND talk to me like that they better have some MMA training, a stick, a can of mace in their pocket... something. It aint even about the toy at that point. Now you are attacking my manhood and that will never be tolerated. Im not putting your practices down just saying. Lol didn't know this toy thing was this real in the streets.

Yesterday I went to TRU and there was the usual Thursday line with usual Thursday guys there. I actually saw a guy and his girlfriend say GO when the doors opened and they bolted in opposite directions to end up in the same place. By the time I walked to the Legends isle they were out of breath and empty handed, all dissing TRU's stock. I stood there and just scanned the isle. Picked up a "whatever", dont even remember, and behind that was a MP Thundercracker. Only one. Dude is looking at me with the "I eat ass face". My theory is that it's not that serious.

Lol, this reminds me of a class I took about tone and interpretation of your writing skills. First off let me say, I am in no way angry at you or starting a fight, I was just having a conversation. I should word my posts more accurately as to not sound confrontational or so it does not sound like I am judging. I am merely stating my thoughts and what I would personally do. Obviously, if I drove from Austin to Houston for a toy hunt, gas prices would be a major fluctuation over driving around locally. I have no beef with you Black Dynomite, how can I be angry at Black Dynomite when my Kung Fu is not on his level.

I have read a bunch of your posts and never got that confrontational vibe from you thats why Im kinda confused by some of the stuff Im reading here. I agree when it comes to internet interpretation. Lol thats why I try to reframe. Hey, no beef from me, I love everybody. Except this dummy...

over 20 yrs of martial arts training and have applied it in the streets in late teens and mostly in gyms these days with fellow Martial artists. I had no intention of fighting this guy over a toy, though, whether I could have beat him up or not wouldn't have made a difference I just called his bluff and he gave in. I suspect there was also a moral high ground issue at play, he tried to make a sale on me for $10 more before he even went to the register himself. If he had responded with some sort of forceful response I would have just bounced. Not gonna fight over a toy...but I also knew he wouldn't either.

Dude if your Manhood is being attacked when you know you're in the wrong like that guy was, that just beyond scalping. That's some anger management stuff.

Even I have to agree that seemed to come out of nowhere. Of course it could be something incredibly racist.....
