Yeah, Target's got this weird thing going on where they put out 7-9 of the same figure instead of putting out the "6 wave line" like we are used to.

It's on sale for $84 right now. Not sure if that's as deep of a discount as you were hoping but there it is.

MarvelousNews has a short list of Legends that are on sale on Amazon right now.

I miss the days of complete waves per case.

It's different, but arguably the pros of the new system outweigh the cons. It's just like how they stock many items like clothes, tee-shirts, etc., and unlike with the assortments this will allow for the ability to order a Cyclops or a Rogue or any other figure now with their unique DCPI on Target.com and be able to do in store same day pick-up and delivery. This also means if your store is stuck with two unsold Magnetos, that will no longer prevent restocks on the rest of the figures in the wave.

The downside is now pegs will still be clogged just with single characters and no chance a store is gonna devote 8 pegs to put whole sets out.

You guys see the patent for Hasbro's anti-theft/tampering packaging?

https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ng-patent.html

Pay close attention to the back of the figure in the diagram.

Actually, they are. Target has a spot on the planogram right now for unique pegs of multiple Eternals, X-Men, and Spider-Man wave DCPIs. However, the FF4 classics all share one shelf space, but that just means stores likely won't get more than 1 or 2 of each of those figures.

For the lazy, Hasbro appears to be planning to put a removable plastic tab in the back of the actual figure, which will fasten to the package. The trouble being, when removed, it leaves a significant seam in the figure. Remember how annoyed everyone was about the holes in Venom?s shoulders? Whelp?

Holy hell I have a hard time imagining this looking anything less than awful in practice. I’ll reserve judgment until we actually *see* it used, but on paper, it doesn’t look promising.

What I’m holding on to for now is this thought: this is just a patent, we have no idea whether or not this will actually see widespread use, let alone become an across the board standard for packaging. I hope.

I've seen it now. No bueno.

I'm assuming the retailers applied pressure to help them with 'shrink', but better training at the returns-counter and greater 'hot-spot' security surveillance might be more cost effective than engineering new bucks.

Hopefully, they product-test before rolling this out to Legends and uniformly adopting.

MeLikeJinx 11-28-2021 04:03 PM

I think most toy thieves just like to steal BAF pieces or accessories... not the main figure itself. Like they don't mind buying a figure... they just hate buying the figure for just the BAF parts or accessories like extra heads or something.

GizmoTron 11-28-2021 04:12 PM

Either way, the pressure comes from fans just as much as retailers. It's just too easy for theft as it is, and I think everyone is tired of having to constantly inspect the packaging all the time (on stinkin' toys no less), especially now that Hasbro is moving more and more towards packaging without windows and we really do need more ways to stop swappers and accessory thieves.

Sadly I don't see that happening with the high turnover at retail stores that sell Legends, and even if they were trained to check the back of the box and compare it to the toy inside, I doubt an average non-toy collector could tell the difference between, say, ESB Boba Fett, ROTJ Boba Fett and Carbonized Boba Fett haha

Lol there are pictures on the box to help. I just built an IKEA table using a series of crude illustrations. That said, I've heard of people complaining about that also. Sad state of affairs here in the States...

SymbiSpidey 11-28-2021 07:37 PM

Some of the swaps I've seen though....it's baffling how any employee that actually gives a crap would take some of these returns. There's ones where I can't fault the employee for (if the character designs look similar enough save for minor differences).

But then I'll always see a swap where the packaging was clearly torn through and the package is missing pieces.

MeLikeJinx 11-28-2021 08:44 PM

I bet Walmart or Target are rich enough to make a machine AI robot that inspects returns and refunds your money if the item passes inspection. Like just a giant machine that you put the returned item in... the machine scans it with lasers and cameras... and then your refund comes out if you pass.

EDIT: Also Target is so stingy this year... I remember last year they had buy two get one free including both SW and Marvel. I remember finding both Gambit and Rogue and getting a Grogru plushie for free. This year it was buy one get one half off... but didn't even include SW. And all they had on the pegs was Eternals and Mr Fantastic and the Thing.

Well that and what do they do to prove a customer wrong when they say, "It's a variant?" After all, we know there are variants that aren't always pictured on the boxes. Is Hasbro (well every toy manufacturer) going to make sure every retail employee knows about those?

Damn... AoA Colossus towers over the 2 pack Colossus... did AoA Colossus get bigger in the comics or is the 2 pack one undersized? His arms and fists and thighs are all bigger too. I wonder if we ever get a true 90's Jim Lee Colossus with the correct belt and knee pads will he be bigger too like the AoA one.

It's just artistic interpretations. The 80th anniversary Colossus is the correct size for the traditional character depiction and the AoA BAF Colossus is correct for how he was drawn in those books.

MeLikeJinx 11-29-2021 07:02 AM

^ I always felt the Marvel Select Colossus was too tall and that the Legends Colossus was a tad too short. IMO that AoA Colossus is the perfect height.

WallySparks 11-29-2021 10:28 AM

Been a long long time since i read some of the old Age of Apocalypse comics.

What was the backstory on colossu's scarred face thats covered with a bandana? Someone threw acid in his face or something?

I don't ever recall there being a backstory to that. At least, not in the main AoA omnibus.

Nah, 2 pack Colossus is the perfect scale. AOA version was just artistic license at it's best.

He was using a floor buffer and it went haywire. ;)
