My thoughts on the Wolverine 5 pack:

Wolverine - Meh overall, and yet, there is some charm to it. Too bad the skin tone is too light to use the heads all that well with the other Wolverine bodies though. I'm not sure what I think of the screaming expression though. I would have preferred something a bit more reserved and maybe had the bruised head screaming.

Cyber - This figure is way too cool for such a lackluster character. The paintjob is just exceptional and stands out thanks to the metallic shine it has. I like him a lot and I hate the character. I was originally considering selling him off, but now I'm not so sure.

Callisto - For being 90% a repaint of punk Storm, she works quite well. No complaints since it makes sense why she is mostly a repainted body. I just wish there were some other Morlocks to go with her (I don't count Four Horsemen Caliban).

Omega Red - I am torn between whether I prefer this one of the previously released one. Like I definitely think the white boots is far better and more comic accurate considering the silver shin armor just looks like it's glue to his knees on the other one given his legs are all red outside of those. I also like the omega symbol painted on his bandanna. Plus, the silver body gear and the alternate head kick all kinds of ass. On the other hand, I don't like how the metal stuff around his mouth is painted the same color as his skin tone and the omega symbols are missing from his hand armor. Now the tentacles for the new one are a stiffer plastic so they don't just flop downward when you insert them into his wrists, however, they're a boring white that blends in to his skin tone. I think the new head is what is going to get me to replace the other one on my shelf though.

Jason - It is so nice to have another member of the Hellfire Club out of the way even if he is wearing black instead of pink or blue. But then, it's not like Hasbro is really following the classic outfit colors to begin with and that's cool. It is still nice to have them all. I hope it doesn't take too long to get Leland now so I can have the entire original Hellfire Club.

Also, screaming dude came today:

I have another nobody bystander/thug to use in my pictures and in my displays.

At this point, I just need Xemnu's right leg, so I might as well pick up the AIM dude.

I feel exactly the opposite way about Cyber. I’ve never been more bummed about a lazy repaint than on this too-narrow, foot-too-tall, non-hunched, non-stubbly take on a lame but nostalgic 90s villain.

Dr Kain 11-30-2021 08:50 AM

Isn't that what the ab crunch is for though? To hunch figures over?

I kinda have to agree here. I like that we got cyber as a fig but he is too tall and needs that beard scruff. Cyber was one of the few bad guys in logans rogues gallery he truly feared fighting and i just wish they'd have done him justice.

Spyne98 11-30-2021 12:20 PM

I like Cyber, but I'll agree with everyone else. He could have been better. I'm happy we got one, and I honestly don't know if we'll ever get a stand alone one, so I'll take this.
I am a little annoyed at myself for being so damn impatient and getting that set right away. I should have waited for the Cyber Monday sale.

hasbroherofan 11-30-2021 12:57 PM

Really like Mastermind but a little creeped out to realize his "true" face looks like my high school driver's ed instructor.

I do agree somewhat, but I've learned in this hobby that it's best not to focus on what I've spent when something inevitably goes on sale later. Otherwise, I'd be all sorts of pissed off- between this 5 pack, the villains wave, and quite a few of the Classified I've bought, I could've saved quite a bit by waiting. Ultimately though, I'd rather take the chance and pay full retail than end up paying double on the aftermarket. Besides, it's good for the health of a line.

This represents my thinking on the matter as well. Life's too short to regret the small stuff and collecting anything comes with attributable costs. It's this very sentiment that sometimes has me rolling my eyes at complaints over prices. If you've come this far in the journey and don't know the road...ain't shit I can do for you.

That bends him over, but doesn’t really achieve the Sam Kieth hunch in all its glory.

That's why I waited on the Wolverine set, however, to be fair, it's pretty much expected that prices will drop on things long enough. It more comes down to whether or not you want to take the chance of waiting for a price drop and missing out over stubborness.

It's like when you buy a movie you really love on Day 1 when it hits Blu-Ray or a video game console. YOu should expect that if you buy it around the day of release, it's going to be higher than it will be down the line. I've always found it odd when people get pissed off that the latest game console dropped in price a year and a half after it came out.

Eh, I only recall seeing him in mostly subpar to ugly artwork books, so I honestly don't really remember him being hunched over.

MeLikeJinx 11-30-2021 11:08 PM

If it is something I really want I just buy it... like I bought the Family Matters 3 pack and Love Triangle 3 pack without a second's thought and it never bothered me that the Magneto 3 pack actually dropped to pretty cheap later on (before becoming super expensive again on the secondary market). The problem is though for the stuff I only kinda want... and like 90 percent of the stuff I only kinda want. LOL.

Yeah, that's how I am. Like I'm quite certain we'll see the X-Force and Excalibur packs drop in price, but I want them sooner rather than later.

Captain Nash 12-01-2021 09:11 AM

Well I was out and about last night and ran into AOA Cyclops in two different stores. He was the last one I needed for that wave. There's another one at Walmart in Rivergate if anyone's interested.

Also ran into a whole peg of 6 or 7 Rogues and about the same of Iceman, at Target in Hendersonville (I think it was/ but it may be Rivergate, ha!) Definitely looks like the full cases situation is still happening.

I there with you. That's why I normally buy day 1. I know I get mad if I miss out on stuff.

I agree there too. Just hindsight is all haha.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who bus movies day 1 anymore! Thank you for that.

I've seen single characters clogging store shelves too. Multiple Rogues and Cyclops figures in my area.

The excitement and thrill of seeing a figure you need singularly is awesome. Seeing an entire peg clogged with them, even new figures you may not need, is kind of "meh". I don't know if this is something that's going to happen just with this wave or if this is something Hasbro's going to do be doing regularly, but I know this wave has been a mess distribution wise. That's not even taking into account the whole shipping delay fiasco, which I certainly don't lay at Hasbro or the retailer's feet.

At any rate, I'm just glad I got this wave settled. Waiting for my excalibur set to ship and looking onwards towards 2022.

Of course, I get it and knew where you were coming from. That last bit wasn't directed at you as much as it was a tangential thought about some of the recent laments regarding the general cost of toys. And those more global gripes are fine too, my point being that these toys/collectables didn't become expensive all of a sudden. Sometimes the blunt presentation of my thoughts can shift the tone from candor to cold indifference, my apologies.

Nimrod 12-01-2021 11:53 AM

If anyone comes across Quasar, plz pick it up for me, I'll pay the cost + S&H. Here in south Tx, my Walgreens are depleted of all things ML related, going on 2+ months that they have been empty.

DiscoJ 12-01-2021 12:30 PM

Found a good use for that bearded Peter Parker head from the Captain Universe release from way back.

Hopefully they will make him available online like they have with Nova.
