Ah, if people are seeing them, even a little bit, and are actually buying them, that's great. From over here it feels like they never even hit yet.

Yo! Thank you for the tip about the Human Torch. I got the rest of the team on sale from Dorkside (and they should be arriving today) but Johnny wasn't on sale so I was sticking with my Pulse pre-order. That one's due out in March or something. Amazon still had some left so I grabbed him from there. I'm so excited for him!

I don't know as it seems weird that my Target will have 6 of Strange and 6 Miles, but no one else at all.

The decision to give stores cases (in my experience it's only happened at Target) of just one figure so far appears to be detrimental. It allowed me to easily find a NWH Strange early in December but at the same store they just had a dozen retro Things so anybody hoping to find any other figures from those waves would be walking away disappointed. I have seen some of the other NWH wave figures but scarcely and scattered about different stores, I'm not sure if the wave has quite properly hit retail in my area yet.

I have to agree. The mindset of a kid (supposed target demographic) and an adult collector (more likely buying demographic) may differ but I think they can both be affected by shipments of case lots vs. full waves.

As a collector, you might be on the fence about a particular wave. If you see 8 figures but it's all the same figure, you may feel like A: they won't be hard to find so you can pass them up for now and B: if you're on the fence about it, why buy the one figure when you feel like you'll have a lot less of a chance to find the rest of the wave. That's not taking into account if it's a figure that you're defintely interested in. If you're interested you're likely going to buy it.

For a kid, the might get that one figure, but then when their parents or their allowance come into play, they're going to be more of the mindset of "I already have that figure, why don't they have (insert figure who may or may not even be made yet)" or just a general sense of apathy about the line in general.

Plus, I think we all well know the difference in the rush we get when we find most of or an entire wave vs. one figure - unless that one figure's the one you were really wanting, or it happens to be the one missing in your set. Plus, if you're preordered on line, if it's a figure that's not your "can't wait for it" figure, you'll probably just wait for the preorder and not spend the money on the figure twice. Whereas, you find 5 or 6 of the 7 figures, you pretty much kno what you're going to do (buy them now, cancel the preorder)

TL; DR. I agree case lots are definitely detrimental. Or at least, most of the time. If there's an obvious super popular character, it makes sense to have a case lot of that one figure. But not the entire wave.

Yah hasbro really cocked up their sales by doin’ this one character per case instead of full waves.

I feel like this gives everyone all the more reason to pre-order things. Sure, you might find a character or 2 on store shelves, but with this 1 character per case idea, it seems like it's getting harder to find everyone. Maybe that's just me. I might not be looking as hard as I used to because I pre-order severything these days.

MeLikeJinx 01-06-2022 06:43 PM

Best Buy seems to be doing the one figure waves too now for Legends... I only ever see one figure from a wave at a time when I go there.

I actually like it though... since before I pretty much had zero chance to find figs since there are always collectors that go every morning when the doors open at Target. Before my only chance was to catch a random afternoon restock. But now the early morning collectors won't buy up everything if there is a bunch of them on the peg... unless it is an hot exclusive... then they still buy up everything.

Any thoughts on 20th Anniversary Hulk?

First off, welcome to the boards!
To answer your post, we all went over it when they officially revealed it and there seemed to be a general agreement that the heads were not pleasing. Not that Hulk should necessarily be easy on the eyes but this is another kind of ugly, especially when Hasbro had already given us some pretty good Hulk heads with the previous releases of this body. The price then is also not helping its case. This entire 20th anniversary series is around $10 more than standard releases and don't really include much to show for it. To me this Hulk is basically just a surcharged release for anybody who doesn't have the 80th anniversary version and doesn't want to wait and see when Hulk will be next available.

Yeah, I think the 20th Hulk looks really bad. The Beatles hair is attrocious, the face looks like he crapped himself, and what is up with the side burns?

I like that he comes with an accessory, but he's also nearly the same price the two pack was despite him not coming with a Wolverine.

Blade3D 01-07-2022 09:58 AM

Thanks, ya I was thinking his faces were kinda weird. Don’t know a lot about these figures. I started picking up the retro FF to go with Haslab Galactus and was seeing what else was out there. Hulk is a favorite so wondering if there were better options.

It’s also odd logins don’t work across all boards. Been on TFW a little longer.

I've not really been too impressed with any of the 20th stuff so far, TBH. I do wonder if they'd not already released more definitive versions earlier, I'd feel differently- I was perfectly fine with Toybiz at the time, after all. Cap looks pretty good (mandatory effects notwithstanding), but again, I prefer the 80th, and managed to just get that one for marginally more than the new one will retail at. Here's to hoping they do Toad some justice, he's my most anticipated figure of the series.

Welcome aboard, and I'm in about the same boat, having been almost exclusively a G.I.Joe guy until just about a year ago. I'm still figuring out which figures I consider "definitive". For myself, I've found that the 80th stuff and many of the Retro carded figures are some of the best the line has to offer. Some of those can be really pricey of course, but now that I've caught up for the most part, I can finally ease the strain on my wallet some and just buy at retail (right as the prices increase...:) ), and despite my groaning about the 20th figures, they are doing some pretty great stuff these days.

A word of caution, though- this line can be addicting. I began with the sole intention of doing a 90's X-Men shelf, ended up with a Quiksilver that naturally caused me to do X-Factor and in turn X-Force... and now I have all kinds of Spidey, Avengers, and Fantastic Four figures adorning my cave.

Dr Kain 01-07-2022 04:24 PM

I prefer the 20th Cap because he's in the Jack Kirby colors.

I do agree on the colors, though I quite like the dark blue as well, it matches the flag a bit better.

WallySparks 01-08-2022 12:02 PM

My Age of Apocalypse Sugar Man build a figure wave is almost complete. Plus the figures are easy to get to complete a build a figure series.

X Factor and X Force wave to build Strong Guy, what a mess though. Two weird crap figures such as the shark lady and a rainbow colored Deadpool just to complete Strong Guy

It's pretty much based on his 70s look, around when the great John Buscema was on the book if I'm not mistaken. I for one, like it. Hulk isn't supposed to be a looker, he's a Green behemoth/monster. Stan Lee based him on the Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde persona. And Mr Hyde ain't a good looking dude! Also, unlike the other Hulk releases, this one comes with an alternate angry/yelling head sculpt which all the others shoulda come with in the 1st place. I'll be getting this but am on the fence about waiting it out to go on sale later in the yr. If you have no other Hulk figs, this would be a great Hulk for you to jump on, especially if you like the Bronze age of Marvel like I and a few others here. Just wish the figure was an inch shorter as Hasbro tends to do the bug characters too big imo.

If I were a betting man I'd say there's going to be a No Way Home Goblin with the hood look made, followed by a "classic" cinematic Goblin on the same body later in the year for the first movie's 20th anniversary. It's too easy not to do, especially if they just do the hoodie/cloak on the No Way Home version as a torso overlay.

After that you can use mostly the same sculpt just with a new head and forearms, for the most part.

Gladiator is an Honorable warrior, Deadpool on the other hand would kick Herc in the family jewels...and then run for his life!
