I am done trying to defend Mattel to people who just want to company to die it's apparent people here focus on their own wants and would rather go to a store and buy the exact same figure 35 times then to get something new. Enjoy having Iron Man from Hasbro 75 series or Batman every other Series in a Store. I will no longer be buying figures at Walmart, Target, or Toy$ R U$because you just don't get it but for me I will continue to buy Subscriptions.
And its better because you are paying something you will certainly get not something you might walk into the store and may not find because the store doesn't put it on the Shelves then having to go on Ebay or Amazon and paying over 100% more for. |

Say what you want about tru's business practices, but I've never had a problem getting what I want there. If its not on the shelf, they order it for me. |

How is cherry picking not wanting a line? There's a difference between batman, superman, green lantern, etc and "lazy-eye kid" or "dr poopoo pants" that are just there to clog eBay. No one wants the filler figures.
I don't mind having a kids line and an adult line. Hasbro does it right: Let the kids have avengers and transformers prime.. Adults get marvel legends and masterpiece transformers. No subscriptions needed and you buy what you want. |
It just occured to me that some of you who posted here would not have bought the figures if they were on the shelves. Do me one favor try and think as Mattel would why should they Produce 100 of one figure if only 50 will sell. Why not just produce the 50 and leave it at that

Wow, lots of discussion on here. And a lot of very valid points being made from both sides of the argument. At the end of the day, I agree that the subscription based model is not ideal for a lot of people. That's fine. The MOTUC line in particular has been going since 2008. That's a pretty damn good run for a toy line. It's naturally running out of steam now as most of the best characters have already been made. However, in my opinion, there are still a lot of really great characters that I still want figures of, and out of what remains for 2013 and what was revealed so far for 2014, a lot of them are coming.
Personally, I'm "all in" for this line. I actually want every character they make and look forward to getting at least one figure delivered to me every month. I don't have to drive around hunting them down. I honestly don't have time for that anymore. So while the sub may not be for everyone, it's perfect for me. Although it's looking like I'm in the increasing minority with that viewpoint. The only thing I don't understand is people actually wanting the line to end. Listen, if you don't want to sub, or if you like the figures, or if there's any reason at all that you're not behind MOTUC of DCU that's perfectly ok. But you don't have to wish for the line's demise. That's ridiculous. Just don't buy them. It is very unfortunate that Mattel is relying more on the sub model for these lines, but I can see that there is a lot less demand for these figure now than there was just a couple years ago. And it's too bad, really. But I think that's just the natural cycle for most toy lines. Especially after the majority of the main characters have already been made and will not be made available again. |
to the previous person "welcome to The Blue Lantern Corps" :D...
I will say I have had issues going to stores to get figures either the store only got 1 of said figure or the Line never made the shelves and have had to rely on Amazon pay twice what the Subs charge. Is the sub model perfect? No but it's better then driving 35 miles to 9 different stores for Nothing |

hey to the people who cherry pick I'm sorry I am a I get every single one type. Keep in mind if people don't go for the full sub you lose if it doesn't go through..
By the way the Mayans got it wrong Doomsday is April 10th, 2014 for us ;) ;) ;) |

Very few collectors even want every figure, much less buy them all. if DC Direct can bring big hunks of plastic like Killer Croc or Solomon Grundy to specialty stores then Mattel could do a profitable run of a Doomsday. The reason they aren't is because they want to hold people hostage to buy subs. At the least they should just take preorders for a handful of figures and that will give them a good idea of the demand and how many to make. The figures still get made, they make money, and any figure that doesn't get enough preorders doesn't get made. Then the market decides what get made. I would love to see Hasbro do something like this for characters that they don't think will sell at retail. If we want a character we will pay but we won't pay for the ones we don't want. |
I hate to tell you this but I have every DCUC wave 10 - 20 plus Both GLC waves, 1/2 the 2 packs, 1 full 5 pack, 3 of the SDCC Exclusives with everything including Convention stuff almost 1/2 of DCSC 2012 & 13, and the a few DCSH Items. I still want waves 1-9 the rest of the 2 pack the Rest of the 5 pack all 12 legion figures, 3 DCSH items, and the last of the SDCC thing. I and apparenlty 26% of the people who like this club feel the same way and come the 19th it could be 100%. My point is if you do not subscribe do not complain if it doesn't go through because you didn't help get the numbers up.
Again "I don't like DC Direct I had 8 of thier figures was disappointed and sent them to a storage unit that got flooded during Superstorm Sandy then thew them in the Garabage I felt no loss. The articulations were cheap and one fell apart when I looked it (Justice Superman). DC Direct does not exsist to me. |
Yes Dcd has very little fun factor! The best figure and one I'm very proud to own one is their AA Killer croc. Now here's hoping his arm won't fall off.

I saw you guys talk about gambling.
Joining the Club Gamble: 1) You do not know what figures you are getting.... Not Joining the Club Gamble: 1) You do not know what figures you are getting. 2) There are no promise you will get the club figure you want, which could sell out before even before being listed on general sale. 3) You have no access to the Club exclusive unless you want to pay more. 4) You have to wait for other Mattel Items even Comic Con stuff, that could sell out with out ever being listed as for sale. Gambling on the Stores: 1) The store may not have the figures you want 2) You have no Idea on the Condition of the Item or what it went through before it went on the shelf 3) You may have to go to multiple stores to get what you want, but you may not find it at all wasting both fuel making a Figure you want cost far more then the Price. The reason I put the Not knowing what figure you are getting in the Joining and Not joining is because you could see something great |
They won't follow thru with their threats...but I hope they do! This is the end of the line and I feel fine!

I am going to say this would people please stop posting they want this line to end it's not constructive in any way at all and building nothing but anger and hatred toward each other and eventually people are going to start reporting and blocking each other. |

The fact that different people will want different figures is exactly the point and the problem with their current model. If enough people want a certain figure then it gets put into production. Maybe that means that less popular characters get skipped or they only make a minimum number but that's perfectly fair. There just aren't enough people willing to buy what they don't want. People "vote" with their wallets and right now they are clearly saying no to a subscription for figures they don't care about. If somebody still wanted all the figures then they could preorder them all. Basically, if you force people to buy 10 figures in order to get 2 or 3 or 7 figures they actually want then you are asking them to subsidize the other figures for people that do want them. If the popularity of every figure isn't then same then why should they all get the same production run? There is a reason that companies make more of some figures for retail than they do other figures in the same wave. Getting the figures to the right people is what it should be about. It shouldn't be my job to buy a figure I don't want and then sell it to someone who does want it, all the while hoping I don't lose money. |
The problem I have had with Retail is getting the figures why should I pay the price of Club figures for a figure that was selling at Walmart for 15.99 from someone on Amazon because the stores do not put them out. The Walmart near me never passed wave 18. I never saw 19, 20, or the All Star line (Heck the All Star line never made it to my area). So I am sticking to only club and will put up with what I don't want to get what I do. As Ben Franklin put it "There are no Gains with out pains"

I think I have a subscription model that could work.
Level 1: Full subscription. includes all access, early access, and Club exclusive(s) Level 2: Half subscription includes partial access to figures must pick at least 6 no more then 8 figures includes only Club Exclusive(s). No Early Access. Level 3: Can pick any number of figures up to (8) must pick at least 1. No Club Exclusive or Early access Dues would Drop to 15$ and for the Level 2 & 3 Emails will be sent following reveals. Early access would change Level 1 starts at 8am with Level 2 at 8 pm |
