Mortal Kombat X 6-Inch Series 2 Figures - The Toyark - News

snake5289 04-14-2015 07:59 AM

Damn those look great. I hope the smaller ones look as good.

And can't wait to pick up the game today!!!

Shin Densetsu 04-14-2015 08:18 AM

The sculpts are amazing. I worry that articulation is compromised however. The same thing happened to Jazwares' MK9 figures. While sculpt-wise, Mezco is far superior, I fear that the articulation will be hindered on these MKX just as much as it was on the MK9 figures. Hopefully I am wrong but I haven't seen dynamic poses out of these figures.

Maybe Mezco is saving that for their Klassic figures in their ONE:12 Collective line. However I really like the MK10 designs and would love highly articulated figures of them. Maybe Netherrealm Studio's is pretty strict with enforcing accuracy to the digital files? Even Mattel's Injustice figures suffered from hindered articulation as well.

Trivial Psychic 04-14-2015 10:07 AM

Soooo glad they updated Quan Chi's head sculpt from the one we saw at Toy Fair this year. He truly looks menacing as ever.

Possible articulation problems or not, these are a must own for me, especially this wave. Already preordered...

After playing MKX just about all week I really want some of the alternate costumes made into figures. I really like Sub-Zero's second outfit with his awesome hobo beard. Same goes for Raiden's MK1 outfit.

And my wish list for waves 3 and 4: Sonya, Shinnok, and Jax then Mileena, D'Vorah, and Kano. If this line makes it that long that is.

What was up with everybody deciding to grow beards?! Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Kenshi all grew like the same beard as if it was some kind of secret pact.

Guess it's to show how much they've "aged" in the 25 year span.

The cryomancer Sub=Zero is full-on awesome.

Kinda reminds of a toned down version of the "cold snap Sub Zero" from when Jazwares first made toys for Deception.

MastaMikeX 04-23-2015 07:26 PM

Sign me up for both versions of Series 1! Cryomancer Sub-Zero is beyond awesome! I wonder if Series 2 will get variations as well??

snake5289 04-23-2015 07:28 PM

I could see them doing that. Mournful Kitana with Jade's weapons, Kotal with any of the three chest details, and Quan Chi with those creepy glowing skeleton hands on his back. Wonder if they're gonna do this for the 4 inch versions too?

I may have to get cryomancer Sub-Zero for my wall.

snake5289 04-23-2015 08:19 PM

I was just wondering if they get around to making Ferra/Torr how they'd go about it. I'm guessing a deluxe figure but would Ferra be fully articulated or just sit on Torr's back like an accessory.

MastaMikeX 04-24-2015 02:05 AM

Those variations sound good Snake, maybe even unmasked Katana? I like your thinking!

As for Ferrari Torr, I am not sure. I guess we will have to see how they handle other deluxe figures first. Exclusives maybe? I imagine MKX Goro and MK Klassic Shao Kahn might come first to give us an idea how Mezco will handle deluxe.

snake5289 04-24-2015 09:13 AM

Goro maybe but I don't think Shao Kahn is much bigger than everybody else. About the same size as Kotal I'd guess.

Spoon 04-25-2015 01:07 PM

Shao Khan Deluxe with Diorama would be awesome.

I've pre-Ordered everything so far, and I'm more of a Street Fighter guy. These look good.

Looking forward to the Klassic style in the 1:12 Collective line.

Honestly, I hope that this will be the only variations figures for a while, because the line hasn't even launched and got off the ground. Look what happened in the case of the failed Capo Toys kickstarter for their Street Fighter line (the initial kickstarter offered no fewer than 5 variants of Ryu, which really turned people off...) If Mezco is not careful with all the variants, they could end up setting themselves up for figures to pegwarm, which would make for a horrible situation. I would prefer to have all new figures as opposed to "bloody" versions of characters that will already have been released. And because these figures are based off of MKX, and not the entire series as a whole, there is a delicate time window that needs to be followed in the release of these figures. Fighting games tend to be popular on average for only a year or two (at which, the next iteration or sequel is often released) so Mezco does not have the luxary of dilly dallying. The need to strike at the height of the game's popularity while the anvil is hot.

Follow NECA's example in this case with their Pacific Rim line. Honestly, I believe that the line has got as far as they did by offering a healthy number of new Jaegers and Kaiju before back tracking to give us the various Gypsy variations that are now warming the pegs at my local stores recently. The line could be cancelled tomorrow, and it wouldn't feel like a waste or a failure because they still managed to get out the vast majority of the characters that people cared about, instead of focusing on one or two with minor alterations with every wave.

MastaMikeX 04-25-2015 03:15 PM

Trivial Psychic, you make some good points. I want to seem them turn out MKX figures as fast as possible. I hope they are secretly working (but have yet to announce for strategic reasons) on several more Series of MKX. It wouldn't surprise me if there's already Ermac, Mileena, Goro, etc. Prototypes built and ready for production but they are buying their time to prevent overdoing it.

Most of the times when companies present ideas for licensed products, if that company has their stuff together, they will often have several waves planned out in advance. Sota Toys had this strategy when they approached Capcom years ago for their Street Fighter line, offering obscure characters and fan favorites in every wave for at least the first three or four waves. Capcom argued with their character choices at times (there was a famous dispute over the addition of Sodom in wave 1...) but Sota assured them that this was the best strategy to not burn out the line too quickly, and they took it one step forward by allowing fans to vote on which characters they wanted in future waves, allowing them to be flexible with their release schedules.

I'd like to see a couple of family packs, one featuring the Briggs family (Jax and Jacqui), and of course the Cages (Cassie, Sonya, and Johnny.) Make the family packs con exclusives, since Jax and Cage figures have tended to peg-warm in the past, and this would help to alleviate that a bit (although I'd buy that Briggs family pack in a heartbeat, since Jax was a main of mine in MK9.) Follow that up with a singles figure wave of Reptile, Ermac, and Mileena. After that, you would have gotten out a bunch of the highly requested fan favorites, and Mezco will hopefully be able to release a wave concentrating on the newer characters, and then a "Shaolin Monks" two pack (Lui Kang and Kung Lao) to finish it out. You might not get every character in the game, but you will have certainly released a good portion of them by then with most of the fan favorites being covered.

snake5289 04-25-2015 05:32 PM

If the line ends before I get a 4 inch Sonya I will throw a hissy fit the likes of which have never been seen. Mileena would be awesome too.

If they release at all. They were shown off at Toy Fair this year, but the fact that we've seen no official images or advertising since kinda concerns me, especially since they have already made announcements with the new variation figures and wave 2 for the six inch line. I doubt they will be put on the back burner, but stranger things have happened.

Not to be a negative nelly, but I have a feeling that the 4 inch wave will end up being cancelled due to the sagging interest in the 3.75" market from retailers and consumers as of late.

MastaMikeX 04-26-2015 12:29 AM

I hope the 4 inch line isn't cancelled! I could use some more figures to go with the epic Shao Kahn Throne I got! The mini Shao Kahn with throne and shackles is probably the best thing Jazwares ever did with the MK license!

snake5289 04-26-2015 09:17 AM

Sadly I never picked that up because I didn't want the big throne set but I did want a Goro but could never find one.

"Officially" I've got MK9 Sub-Zero, Scorpion (both of whom I've changed up a bit), Johnny Cage, and Reptile. Everyone else I kind of whipped up myself.

Definitely want to add some new characters.

MastaMikeX 04-26-2015 10:39 PM

Wow, Snake! You did some really good customs! I am impressed with your work! And yeah, that weird Johnny Cage and Goro 2 pack was hard to find and a little overpriced.

Edited to add that Mezco Toyz Twitter has some interesting info on it! They said SDCC exclusives were being announced soon, shot down someone requesting Kano in Series 3, and retweeted several people asking for Mileena!

snake5289 04-27-2015 09:01 AM

Thank you. Loves me some Mortal Kombat.

Painted up some "ice" weapons for Sub-Zero yesterday.

Never really cared for the sword he came with tbh.
