I do. I can't wait for this movie.

These look pretty nice! Looks like they'll fit in really well with the other Mattel GB's.

TheBlueMarvel 01-08-2016 11:25 AM

They look decent to me, but I'm always looking for random figs as ancillary characters in display set-ups...they'll make good technicians (the same goes for the original line-up) in the background of photos featuring DCUC and Legends figs.

Heh, I use the originals for that purpose too (except Dan Aykroyd, who'd headsculpt is just awful). I dunno if I'll be able to do that with these though, they're just so hokey looking. The outfits are just terrible. Maybe the blonde could find some use from me.

I don't think I'm gonna be seeing this movie, they really dropped the ball by dragging their feet with Ghostbusters 3, and now Ramis is dead and we're stuck with this. Oh well.

TheBlueMarvel 01-08-2016 12:23 PM

@TheMattMan

Yeah, they look pretty corny, but that's what makes them perfect as schleps in the background. lol

About the movie, I don't get the investment in Ghostbusters as a classic film that cannot be touched or redressed. I enjoyed it as a kid, but it will never mean that much as a franchise to me. As you mentioned with Ghostbusters 3, they waited too long and missed the window of opportunity. The only criticism I would level at this upcoming flick is that they should have cast funnier/more popular comedians for the reprised roles...

suchaname 01-08-2016 01:54 PM

I don't know what I think about GB any more. I used to love both the films and cartoon as a kid, but these days I find myself struggling to justify even the awesome Lego Firehouse set... Nothing I know about the upcoming movie gives me any confidence in it.

I actually quite like the figs though!

captainN 01-08-2016 02:40 PM

I soo don't like how the 3rd movie is a reboot. This movie has A Lot to live up to. A LOT..

deathofthelines 01-08-2016 05:00 PM

With this flick I hope for the best but expect the worst. Hopefully if it falls in-between I hope it falls on the good.

Anyway, these look pretty decent! Wiig and McKinnon's sculpts aren't as strong as I'd like, but they're not terrible.

It's not about living in the 30's. It's the fact that they made it an all woman cast just for the sake of feminism. Women in Hollywood are such whiny twats. They make a damn good living, but yet they whine because they don't get paid as much as the lead because he's a man. Not because the man was castes and he is meant to be the lead, God no. It's so f'ing stupid. Captain phasma was originally going to be male. But nooooooooo lets throw in a woman so no one will cause a stir......
Women in movies 10yrs ago were not whiny little brats.

I don' think you understand what feminism is.

TheMattMan095 01-08-2016 07:50 PM

Hey, maybe we should all just cool down...and drop the feminism subject.

"For the sake of feminism" = "Giving women what men have already got". We had two all male Ghostbusters already, remember those? Its nothing but arrogant selfishness to suggest that an all female version is somehow unjustifiable.
Thirty years of male dominated Ghostbusters and now men are whining about a single all female movie. Please, just stop, you're making us all look bad. If you don't want to see it, fair enough, but don't act like it isn't a perfectly reasonable, even desirable thing to do.

wesitron 01-08-2016 08:49 PM

I can't speak for the acting ability of the others, but Kristen Wiig in Skeleton Twins and Melissa McCarthy in The Nines were both really fantastic performances. I liked the concept for The Nines a lot, but even though it was long before she blew up, McCarthy was by far the most memorable part. In strict terms of comedy, it's up to each person what they like. A lot of folks don't like Bill Murray at all.

I think the figures could be better, but I'm impressed with the body variety and the likenesses are decent. I guess my question now is marketability and distribution. This is a huge leap for Mattel if they plan to put it in the boy aisle. However, if they put them in girl aisle, there could be controversy. I'll e interested to see how they play it. Will they also make Barbie versions? Regardless of opinions about the movies or figures, this is revolutionary in terms of what it is offering as a toy line.

The "true fan" argument is laughable to me. There's no way to come back from that.

Yeah I would have thought they could have just built on the old movies, but hopefully this one is good. The figures look ok and I'll admit I kind of have a thing for Kristen wiig lol

Thank you. I get sick of all the whining and complaining, it gets old. Sure we can criticize toy companies and voice our concerns so that the quality can increase (or at least stay the same) so that they know what we want. Why get all worked up over something? If you don't like it, don't buy it or see the movie. "Non PC" people have become more sensitive than "PC" people lol

Movie - don't care about all female cast so long as the movie is good and they perform. I watch/(ed) them every week on SNL and dig em. What I don't like is that they rebooted it. Should have required it be a soft reboot. 30 years later, Ghostbusters retired/missing/in-hiding/angry and said fuck off/ - new team on the scene. Maybe one is a daughter. Whatever. Then do this movie. Cameos or not. Slimer throwback to connect. Done. Expand on from there. Bring in dudes. Do the dude team in LA. Cinematic universe. Ghost Bill Murray.

That's what I don't get either.
The reasoning on the reboot was because New York had been through so many big frights already. So why not move it to a different city? Like Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Seattle, and many other major ones. Then as ghosts show up, the scares will still be there because until faced with it themselves, it'll have been "Crazy New Yorker stories."

Would have given them the original basis they wanted, and kept the continuity of the previous intact. Could have even let the new team upstage the old on the tech side too, and all around gave much more story room to move more freely while still respecting the original.

Hopefully they have something interesting and big planned though with two teams getting movies. Wonder if they'll interact at all.

Everything else I'm fine with on the movie. Want to see how it turns out.

I don't like them remaking Ghostbusters either but don't attack the cast just for being women and having different body types. Dan Ackroyd was a bit of a chubber back in'84 too, you know...

Agreed! It's sickening to read comments about these women's bodies. Judging men on their performances and women on their appearance. Leave this nonsense in the past, please.

They coulda used the only talented actress (Wiig) to replace ramis and then had a latino guy and a gothy chick as newbs...thus continuing the franchise without egon but kinda keeping the theme while introducing two of the extreme ghostbusters team. Instead we get two unknowns ( relatively ) and one of todays worst, untalented and unfunny actresses whos nothing but a foul mouthed hack to reboot a franchise that had a decent following. If mcarthy wasnt in this i mighta gone to see it...but i flat out refuse to watch movies shes in.

I agree.

These figures don't look half bad. I'll look forward to them looking terrible in hand. I'm not psyched about this movie, but the amount of OUTRAGE in this thread is absurd.

It's Ghostbusters, people. It's a stupid franchise, fun, but stupid. If you think there's something wrong with our culture, do something about it other than freaking out on a toy forum.

Again, it's Ghostbusters. It's hardly a status-quo changing franchise, and I doubt feminists will have won anything when it inevitably flops. It would be great if it didn't, but I have my doubts given the amount of ill will towards it in the first place.

But we're judging both. It's not like they're great actresses and comedians but we're just knocking their looks, they fail in both areas.

The fact that their bodies are part of their conversation at all is a problem. Criticizing their comedic skills, fine. But what do their looks have to do with it? When Mattel made figures of the original Ghostbusters, was anyone saying, "I don't want action figures of those ugly men."? It just doesn't happen with men, and it shouldn't happen with women.

Judging all humans individually based on merit, still a pipe dream in 2016. I appreciate the eloquent remarks. I see some disturbing comments from certain people and I'm reminded of how appalled I was by photos in history books highlighting weirdos with signs supporting segregation in the 1960's. Like, you're on the wrong side of history, bruh. The sausage fests in movies and tv that dudes enjoyed for decades are diminishing, and women are enjoying nerdly pursuits more than ever. Sharing isn't so bad - without it I would not have met and married my own fine, foxy lady nerd! (two years in March!) People treat feminism like it's a bad word because many on both sides have embraced extremist notions of it. All it really stands for is "equality". If that threatens you, then you are very very small.

And come on guys, Kate McKinnon is incredibly talented. Both McKinnon and Wiig were phenomenal on SNL. Melissa McCarthy is admittedly pretty terrible, so I feel like she drags the overall quality down a bit. There are enough talented individuals attached to this thing that I've found reasonable cause for optimism, though. To pass final judgement on this before we've seen a millisecond of footage is asinine.
