Welcome ronrill.

First, the reason people hate the design is that it is just flat out ugly. Even if you feel it makes him feel like a nuclear bomb survivor doesn't make it any less ugly.

Secondly, this Godzilla is not an atomic bomb victim.

CaptainN, given Toho's past experience it won't be out in the US until late 2017/early 2018.

@Jester: My surprise is genuine and not sarcastic so I apologize if it comes across that way. I admit I have a terrible habit of using "wow" even when expressing genuine surprise in a neutral way.

@Dr Kain: Thanks for the welcome. As I mentioned, I get that people have preferences with designs and the like, but to dismiss it for simply being "ugly" feels a bit misplaced considering how Godzilla was originally meant to look as a frightening Kaiju.

I should mention that I'm not saying that it's an actual atomic bomb victim. Rather the intended design and scale texturing of the classic 1954 Godzilla was originally meant to simulate that of an atom bomb victim, even if the execution was haphazard. It's why I found myself liking this as a "revitalized" design for Godzilla, because it harkens to that exact concept by designing the skin texture to match how it was intended to look like back in 1954 through modern tech and standards.

For quick reference from Wiki:
Quote:

With the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Lucky Dragon 5 incident still fresh in the Japanese consciousness, Godzilla was conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons.
...
To emphasise the monster's relationship with the atomic bomb, its skin texture was inspired by the keloid scars seen on survivors in Hiroshima.

The original yes, but not the Shin one.

Trust me, I know all about Godzilla, which is why I created a Youtube channel. I spent half of last year reviewing the entire Godzilla series.

I didn't say that ShinGoji is a metaphor for nuclear weapons. If anything, its based on the Tohoku earthquake and Fukushima Daichii nuclear meltdown. If you read again, I was using that quote as proof of Godzilla's original design intentions being based on an atomic bomb victim's keloid scars, in which similar intentions have been blatantly carried over in how Shin Godzilla has been designed to look like a horribly-scarred nuclear monstrosity instead of just looking like a giant lizard. ShinGoji being a metaphor for the aforementioned disasters and him being designed to homage the similarly horrific design intentions from 1954 aren't mutually exclusive.
