I'd hardly call Venom an "obscure" hero, even if this reboot, redesign, retcon, version or whatever you want to call him is pretty awful. My personal feelings of the character aside, this was one of the best BAFs of the year. His articulation is surprisingly good, and the sculpted details and crisp paints make this guy a lot better than he should have been. Now if only we could get "The Madness" or "Ultimate" Venom next time...

kingphilbert 09-01-2016 06:52 PM

I wasn't even aware Venom went to space, but he is till a very cool and well designed figure. I feel if would fit better with a space based series though. Guardians of the Galaxy collectors are probably happy for him.

kingphilbert 09-01-2016 06:58 PM

I do feel he has a downside. When standing on his sled he needs to lean forward lest he falls backwards. I wish they would have included a small clear stand to prop up the sled.

Too bad the series, i heard, ihas been nixed. Hopefully hes goes back to being a commando. The whole space knight gimmick just feels like marvel trying to replace rom since appearantly he ( rom ) is now under idws banner.

Any suggestions of a 6"-scale shotgun to give her to decapitate crimelords with?

I'd go with the shotgun from necas hicks colonial marine.

Yep not obscure in any way other than maybe an obscure redesign for a mainstream character. If that even makes sense? Venom is pretty friggin well known in even the mainstream since he's been in several cartoons and Spider Man 3. I think this version ended being a bit of a failure since it appears to already be gone since there is a new Venom comic coming up with a return to the slobbering classic version. Personally I love Venom and this is my least favorite version. Agent Venom is my favorite, then classic more subdued Venom, the crazy bulked up Venom, then Mac Gargan, then Space Venom. It's a well sculpted figure though.

Blatantly obvious that everybody knows who Venom is... Venom Space Night however almost nobody.

Apparently the symbiote's cleansing has worn off (yay) or something and Venom will be back as a monstrous villain once they start their new wave of first issues.

Damage done though...too little, too late. I hope Marvel brings the focus back to Brock and gives Toxin a proper push/run, and gives Venom a rest for a while.

Jeez, that's all you have to say about him?

I love the Toyark with all of my collector heart, don't get me wrong, but I agree with you man. Where's the love? Each new NECA release appears to get a super-detailed, multi-paragraph review and description, with extensive pros and cons. Marvel Legends gets.. a few lines? Not complaining, just an observation.

Different reviewers. Destro handles most if not all Hasbro stuff and Joe does all of the NECA stuff. In defense of Destro approaching his reviews from a more minimal writing standard most Legends are just repaints of existing figures with some new pieces and articulation is pretty standard across the board.

Dr Kain 09-02-2016 11:13 PM

Let me put it this way, I sold him off the day after I assembled him.

Yeah I understand, like I said I wasn't complaining and didn't mean to come across as ungrateful. I know all the guys at Toyark are constantly working hard to provide excellent reviews and news updates around the clock, and we get to consume it all for free on a daily basis. And yeah, I know there are other places and YouTube channels that provide more in-depth looks at Marvel Legends. I guess just being such a big Legends fan, and Toyark always being my first port of call when surfing for current news and recent reviews, I was just taken aback by, like you said, the minimalist nature of the review.

Being built on the "library" approach where most characters are assembled on a base of parts already pre-existing in Hasbros vast Legends library, I know that for the most part, articulation and several other factors are consistent across the board, and have been covered many times before. I didn't mean to be critical of Destro specifically. I know that his Legends coverage is always extensive, and the shots he takes are amongst the best on the web.

I guess as well because it really does seem like we are living in a new golden-age of action-figure production, with unprecedented, never-before-seen levels of choice, range and quality when it comes to specific brands and licenses, that my expectations are set so high now that my craving for detail in reviews has risen to match the levels of detail and quality that I expect from my action figures. A symptom of such high-quality collector output I suppose!
