He was kind of blah. No need to ever see him again. But David Thewlis is cool.

The Machine- 6/10 it was ok not my favorite movie but definitely not bad. The music they used sounded like Blade runner. It was a Interesting take on that type of sci Fi films

Wonder Woman: 8.9/10

The set-up and build-up was pretty fantastic, but I feel the ending was slightly rushed and could have been so much better with a little reworking. However, loved all of the scenes with the Amazons at Themyscira, all of the interactions between Diana and Steve, and of course: No Man's Land.

Overall thoughts: phenomenal film in a series that desperately needed a homerun. I just hope Justice League can keep the momentum going, and not slam the breaks on all of the wonderful things that Wonder Woman brought to the series.

Weapon X 06-07-2017 02:44 PM

I agree about the ending.

Weapon X 06-10-2017 11:04 PM

The Mummy—7/10

It's kind of hard to judge because I had to go to the bathroom during the movie, was feeling anxious, and the theater had the lights on during the first 10 minutes of the movie, making it hard to pay attention.

But I enjoyed this movie. Did it have flaws? Yes, but it wasn't 17% bad. I'd watch it again and I'm excited for the next installments in the Dark Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 6/10

I watched this in preparation for seeing GotG2, and I feel about it the way I did the last time I watched it. It's ok. I want to like it more than I do. It feels to me like the whole cast were wasted to some extent, and the humour was cringe inducing for the most part. But it is very pretty to look at.

GotG vol. 2. 8/10

Superior to the original in every way, though I still don't find it as funny as others seem too. Much better characterization, a much more convincing story, a relatively interesting vllain by MCU standards, superior acting, better arcs for each character and a lot of genuine emotion.
Highlights for were definitely Nebula and Yondu, but I enjoyed Ego a lot more than I was expecting.

Wonder Woman - 5/10
I like Gal Gadot but I found this to be sappy, melodramatic tripe. Kinda wanting to kick Zack Snyder in the nads more than usual on this one.

Thor Laserpunch 06-18-2017 06:55 AM

John Wick 2 6/10

Not as good as the first one--which qualifies as one of my favorite actioners. It is just as splashy and violent, but somehow watching a guy get shot in the face from ten feet away loses its impact when you see it interspersed with stabbings and other brutal takedowns 100 times in a row. It also just plain doesn't have the same charm as the first one.

I haven't seen it but it's probably because David Leitch left after the first one.

The Lego Batman Movie - 9/10
Loved it. Every hilariously heartwarming second.

Didn't even realize that, but that gives me a lot more hope for Atomic Blonde at least.

Panther 06-19-2017 05:39 PM

Double Feature...

Wonder Woman 9/10: Brought hope and optimism to the DCEU
All Eyez On Me 5/10: Strong performance by Demetrius Shipp as Tupac, however, too many editing problems.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited for that one, seems more up my alley.

Spider-Man: Homecoming - 7/10

Thor Laserpunch 07-09-2017 05:01 AM

The Accountant - 8/10

Like Tom Cruise & Liam Neeson, I never really pictured Affleck as an action star, but he's not bad in it and the movie has an interesting premise. Good take on the one man army sub-genre.

snake5289 07-09-2017 11:08 AM

I liked that one a lot. Apparently it's getting a sequel.

Thor Laserpunch 07-09-2017 11:37 AM

Interesting. It does seem to set up a sequel pretty well, actually.

whatever the latest Resident Evil is called -- 1000000000/10

A perfect end to this series. Bombastic, riddled with plotholes and a thick smattering of CGI. I can't believe people died making this and that one stunt woman got her face degloved. I mean, that's bad enough, but to have your one tagline in history be that you died during the filming of the last Resident Evil movie is insult to injury.

In all honesty, the RE movies are stupid as hell, but I've seen them all several times because they work as decent thinly-plotted action flicks or maybe just straight up comedy, plus they have gore and monsters. Also, Milla Jovovich is straight badass when she like jumps down a thousand foot hole posed with SMGs akimbo and her leg up, not moving a muscle but just blasting the shit out of everyone below. What an icon. I don't even notice how hilarious shit like that is anymore because these movies have desensitized me to straight-to-video level b-horror crap that actually makes it to theaters, into the mainstream, and somehow miraculously turns a profit at that. Thanks Resident Evil movies.

Weapon X 07-17-2017 09:34 PM

Baby Driver- 7.5/10

A lot to love, but felt weird decisions were made during the last third of the movie or so.

Spiderman Homecoming-9/10

One of my favorite MCU movies now. Better than I could have ever hoped. Michael Keaton killed it. On par with Spiderman 2 for me. I wanna see it again!

Not sure if I'd fork out to see it again on the big screen but otherwise I would've said it was an 8/10 film at most, Michael Keaton is by far the MCU's best villain but it was still an MCU film through and through- which to me personally I'm finding them all too similar in formula and style for much more tolerance beyond Infinity War.

Alien 10/10- Perfection, hasn't been beaten since.
Ash's head hasn't aged terribly well and the last we see of the Alien bouncing around is a little silly but every classic has a couple faults.
I also miss the smacking of the Cat from the DC but the TC is no doubt the superior version of the film in question.

Aliens 8/10- Theatrical Cut, no doubt a classic however I find that James Cameron's photography feels very flat in comparison to the original. In terms of versions, despite the Sentries being very cool- the only thing I miss from the Special Edition is the moment where Ripley hesitates outside the Hadley's Hope entrance in the rain.
(The Jordan's bad acting and killing the pace I can do without.)
I find the whole replacement family angle that Cameron edges into near the ending more than a little creepy and unnerving personally in both versions.

Despite little bits and pieces like this that I dislike- the film is still a masterpiece of tension and is essentially one of cinema's greatest rollercoaster rides.
The Alien Queen is still utterly gorgeous as is most of the film.
It just misses the subtlety of the original at times.

Alien³ 8.5/10- Yes, you haven't lost your mind I did rate this higher than the beloved James Cameron sequel & Here's why; Assembly Cut.

This no doubt of the original four films has the second best cinematography of the lot behind the titular 1979 film and that's saying a lot considering the pedigree of the filmakers involved. Shame on those compositing shots. If these were fixed up I'd bet it would visually be the best of all of the films in terms of consistency and establishing a visual tone. This film also has the second best Alien design, that being the Runner.

This film is much more a character drama and a thriller, it has the best acting of the lot and is my favourite conclusion to any trilogy, just behind LOTR's. Considering the Threatrical was hacked to pieces I'd consider that version all but invalid. The Assembly Cut actually follows the shooting script exactly apart from an infamous shot of an Egg where it couldn't possibly be.
A shot put there by Fox producers at the time, saying that audiences would be confused as to where the Facehuggers came from- despite the fact stowaway Facehuggers (actually heard at the end of Aliens credits) are far more feasible than a magic egg. Alas- it is what it is for the time being. Under all the scrutiny from inane plebs, there's a great film in Alien cubed but not a perfect one.

I'll be reviewing A.R and Prometheus. *Shudders*
When I rewatch Covenant come August.

redfox 07-25-2017 05:42 PM

Kingsman: The Secret Service- 8/10

Really good popcorn flick! Loved the meta nature of the film and the nods to the Bond flicks and spy genre. All-in-all, I really enjoyed it and am waiting furiously now to its upcoming sequel.

And you said my taste is a joke...

War for the Planet of the Apes—7/10

Too dark, ending was empty. Beloved characters disappear.

snake5289 08-13-2017 07:15 PM

Life (the one about the alien that just came out) - 6/10

It was okay. Not terrible but nothing special either.
