I usually don't bother with unmasked heads but dang, that's a good one!

jeff117 04-28-2018 11:53 AM

I hope they make the extremis suit iron man next. So far these are looking great!!

Meh... I miss the days of puny Parker... with the glasses, schmuck face, etc. Wish this had the teenager Parker face, not the Calvin Klein underwear model Parker face.

I miss the days when Marvel Comics were about the “kid next door” but with powers. Now everyone is Adonis blended with Brad Pitt. It’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference between Marvel and DC.

But, puny Parker, HS nerd with the glasses was only for a couple of years when the character first started. Since then he's been a perpetual twenty-something college student for decades (drawn a bit idealized as well).
Anyway, seems like the head sculpt reflects the 90s iteration of that Peter Parker (as drawn by Mark Bagley during the 90s IMO).

Love Mark Bagley, especially his Venom. Still, imho Spidey loses his relatability when he’s drawn as a god, instead of geeky origin. Not saying they should make him look like the Spleen. Reminds me of the “comedies” where a character is the “ugly nerdy” friend, but takes off glasses, gets a makeover from the “pretty friend” and suddenly it’s Cindy Crawford.

I personally wish he never left high school. The best Spidey comics were his high school ones. If Bart Simpson can be 10 for 30 years, Spidey should be 16.

Tom Holland was a great choice. He still looks like a teen, has the cute-dork look, but doesn’t look emo like Maguire or angsty like Garfield. He sells puny Parker.

Hugh Jackman’s portrayals as wolverine have influenced the comics. Hope Holland’s Spidey influences the eventual next marvel reboot.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be on my preorder list soon, here. Mafex is starting to roll in some serious cash from me. :D

Can he do a 4-point crouch?

I prefer the college and beyond Peter Parkey myself, but do agree that the face sculpt doesn't fit a Peter Parker and looks more like a male model

Mine arrived. Looks great, feels a bit....cheap. I posed him a couple of times...his wrist joint snapped.... disappointed and frankly livid that it was so easy to do. Fairly sure I'm not not buying another MAFEX figure again.

Whew. Glad I flaked last minute and cancelled. I’ll wait for the “special Chinese edition” in a few months for $25.

Dr Kain 03-11-2019 08:59 PM

I watched a few reviews on him and he looks cool, I just can't justify spending $80ish on him as he's not my prefered version of Spider-Man. I don't care for the darker blue and red on him and he totally should have had the web wings.

Would that be a KO? Might be my only chance at a replacement joint for his wrist. Where can you purchase such things?

I've sent a message to Anime Export asking for a replacement but I'm not holding out much hope.

I'll stick with my one 12. I've had him for a while now and he has held up nicely. If done right, cloth looks more realistic than molded plastic which looks better on my shelf.

webz 04-12-2019 05:17 PM

I flaked on my flaking and bought this. He’s amazing! Mafex figures are getting better with each release.

I'm mixed. $95 plus shipping plus tax (since now BBTS charges me tax) is a lot of money for a figure that isn't my preferred version, but the figure does look pretty cool and comes with some great accessories.

Not really when you include shipping.

Plus, like I said, I'm just not sure I want to spend that kind of money when I know sooner or later I'll find a Spider-Man like that one in my preferred lighter blues and reds.

Comes out to $70-$75 shipped from Amazon JP, much better than BBTS which will send you over $100 with shipping and taxes
