Are those hands place holders or does Raph actually come with three sets of hands that appear to be extremely similar and no closed fists?

way better than the neca target turtles and as good or better than the neca movie turtles. I'm talking purely objectively here. i love both companies. looks like some neca fans here are a little prejudiced

In what photos can you see the Super7 turtle articulate? From what I can see he's got no swivels, no hip, no elbow, no bicep. Big negatives for me. Unless S7 updates the photos, I'm out on the turtles.

RamenRider 09-26-2019 08:03 AM

The articulation isn't worked in on some of these prototypes so I don't know where he is seeing all this stuff either, however they won’t ship the figures like this, they will have the usual MOTU-classic articulation at least.

That is in no way better than NECA's Turtles though. It's about on par with the NECA Toon ones as I expect Super7 to have better ankle tilts, but the knees on the NECA ones are double-jointed and I don't expect that to be the case on Super7's.

The movie Turtles from NECA have better ankle tilts and torso articulation though, plus double-jointed elbows, which is more than the Super7 ones could have as their torsos appear to be static.

Look at the shell pic. if you look at his knee area, you can see the knee bend joint is hidden behind the kneepad. Elbow is probably the same.

I don’t think we are, because you’re seeing into the future. These Super7 figures are prototypes. Look at Raphael again. All the articulation isn’t even cut yet. Again you’re opinion isn’t based on owning these, but simply just looking at the prototypes pictured. These are not the mass produced figures that we are seeing, and will ultimately look different.
Aside from that I am biased, but only regarding the look. For me, nothing can top the NECA 1990 TMNT line. That is my favorite look for TMNT, and I have always wanted them in figure form. I seriously doubt that Super7 could top that articulation either. Double elbows, double knees, and just the quality overall is fantastic! Even Splinter has great range.

dukefett 10-01-2019 12:31 PM

BBST put these up for preorder for the same price as direct from Super7, so just going to go there for the ones I want and not pay up front.

It’s sad that they ruined this for me with the sprues; I really like the aesthetic of this line. Saves me lots of money though.

Comedian 10-01-2019 12:59 PM

Sold. I pre-ordered on BBTS.

I don't know why they aren't even saying anything about it. I'm just gettin Baxter for now and Splinter, but not ordering anything else unless at release there's some changes to the turtles. I see it says the weapons rack thing for Baxter too but I'm hoping that's just cut and paste text.

ShabbyBlue 10-01-2019 04:19 PM

I just wonder if Super7 is aware of how many people are complaining about the sprues and how many people are passing on buying these just because of that one issue. If they'd simply change it before it's too late into production and announce that the weapons will not be molded onto sprues, then I bet they'd see a lot more people jumping on board.

webz 10-01-2019 08:58 PM

Preordered on BBTS as well. Possibly got unicron coming and my ceratopsian beasts of the Mesozoic pledge, so a few months to let the ol’ pocketbook heal will be welcomed.

Sprues don’t bother me at all. All that crap is going in a ziplock bag in a drawer.

Apparently people told them the sprues were a bad idea right when these were first displayed. And only then did they realize that painting plastic on a sprue before cutting it off isn't a very smart thing to do...

Don't know about you, but personally I actually want to use the accessories that come with my 45$+ figures. And I want to display a Rafael figures with its sai.

metalalchemist 10-01-2019 09:37 PM

Quick question: How is it that Super7 can sell these so "openly" while NECA is so rectricted with their sales? It gets you thinking if playmates is really putting pressure on neca, I guess...

IMJ 10-01-2019 09:42 PM

The pricing on these is a disgrace. Don't feed your addiction in instances like these, people. I am all for someone making a profit, but whatever BS excuse they come up with for the pricing, it's a disgrace. It's worse than what Sideshow does and that is a Masterclass in disgrace.

It all comes down to availability, price point, and if the items are sold where Playmates Toys are sold. Seems like Super7 followed all the guidelines, but NECA has the better value and distribution. No doubt though, Super7 is definitely playing with fire by redoing Playmates Toys figures. I question how long it’ll take for Playmates to have a problem with this line, or to realize they can make something similar. Look at what Mattel did with MOTU.

Agreed. I don't think the $$ bothers him very much. He just got the entire set and a unicron XD Personally I need every penny squeezed into the value of a figure. That extra plastic must cost something and the cutting of anything sounds horrible.

The pre-order pics are the same as on BBTS. So, are the BBTS photos still "prototypes"? In none of those pics does Raphs elbow move, or looks like it moves, up and down, or side to side.

It looks like its the arm peg that spins in 360 degrees around like the old toys. Makes sense since they are so dedicated to making these like the originals. Personally not a fan of that idea either.

Threat 10-02-2019 12:30 AM

Ultimate He-Man and Skeletor were $35 each. The Thundercats were originally $25 each, but the Ultimate versions were $45, along with these TMNT. Yikes. I'm going to wait a bit, and most likely get them, but not happy about that gouge in price. Should be $35 each.

The sai won’t be on the sprue. They’ve said the main tmnt weapons won’t be on the sprue. Just the extra weapons. Extra hands and weapons are gonna go straight into a ziplock. All splinter needs is his cane and I’m good to go.

Wow, thinking about it, thundercats could end up in the same situation then.
There is something really suspicious with all this, TBH.

Yup, still the same prototypes we've seen since the first display at PowerCon.

For Splinter that may work, although even here it sucks to not use the many options one could have IMO, but for the Turtles? The fun in action figures for me is being able to change poses, to mix up my displays, to try something different to keep it interesting. Having extra stuff included I need to perform maintenance on for it to be usable sucks. Especially for the price they’re asking.

I’m not a NECA fan, but for the price of one single Super7-Turtle I can almost get all four movie Turtles combined.

But you do you, if you're happy with the way you're displaying your figures I won't judge you, enjoying your hobby and having fun is the most important part.

Also, bottom note: You’re a monster if you’re not using that awesome tea cup accessory ;)

Not really. Playmates has no problem with Super7 since Super7 makes figures for audiences they don’t care about and they are online made-to-order only, meaning they will never be anywhere close to the retail spaces Playmates fills with their products.

It's similar with NECA: Conventions first, then Gamestop (a store in which Playmates has no presence in) then Target, where their products are in their own sections.

What Playmates wants to avoid is having "competition" in their core audience, that being children, and they don’t want to risk it by putting similar figures from other companies near that space.

As evilekim noted though, Playmates might someday realize they can take that market themselves. Personally, I don’t see it though, their products for the adult collector never caught on, they canceled their own attempt at a "Classics"-line very quickly and haven’t really tried anything similar since IIRC.

The one that boggled my mind was SH Figuarts Turtles, they were freely distributed everywhere. I guess it was the price? I think they were $60 MSRP.

I still haven't seen that anywhere except someone on a forum saying that. I'd love a source to this.

Yes, I am a monster... but that's besides the point. Look at promo pics. Raph has his sai in the holster AND on the spru. They're doubling up on the main weapons for the TMNT. One set for the Turtle, that won't be on the sprue, and one on the rack, meant to stay there as an homage to the original toys from the 80's.

No, I will not be using the tea cup, bow, etc of Splinter. Just the cane.

The designers of the figure. Per the Facebook page of one of the Horsemen, H Eric Mayse: "We’re creating each of the characters’ iconic weapons separately from the weapons trees as well."

Don't think it gets any more official than that.

Well yes if Super7 themselves or if the official item details said that explicitly, that would be more official. I shouldn't have to dig into a personal page of a toy designer to figure that out. I'm glad someone said something, but the actual company should say that too.

Super7's site just says 'fully loaded weapons rack' with no mention of extra sai and BBTS's listing is the same, but explicity says "2 sai."

I dug through his FB and found he responded to someone's comment about a week ago with that info, but the company should be listing this information as it's a big deal to a lot of people. He wrote exactly "We're creating each of the characters' iconic weapons separately from the weapons trees as well."
