This Catwoman "mask" looks awefull, I hope she has something different at some point in the movie.

And nowadays the movie people have that concept stuck in their head and can't see Batman as anything else but a "real" superhero. And I mean that is part of his appeal, but only when you mix it with the fact that he fights against the most insane, fantastic and corny stuff. Not simple serial killers with a gimmick.

It also makes for boring action figures, as we see here. It's not just McFarlane's usual, well, "underperformance", the designs are lame to begin with.

Superhero based Marvel/DC movies are not made with the comic based fanbase in mind, they could give a rats butt about us, they just cater to the non comic fans that don't know the Riddler from a hole in the wall. The more they try & make these characters "real world", the further they drive me out of watching these movies. Comic characters are not real people, they are make believe characters that we read as kids to escape the real world for a few hrs on a rainy Saturday afternoon. And it's a joke that WB mandates to Todd that this line be 90% Batman based. That's why I stand by the assertion that the 4HM sculpted DCUC was & still is the greatest action figure line based on DC heroes & Villains ever!

It's funny that people call Gotham realistic when it's probably the most out-there piece of live-action Batman media we've had aside from the DCEU stuff and he never even got anything to himself there.

And yet the "guys in thrift store outfits" IS more realistic than everyone dressing like Bond villains.

I'd suggest reading more on the production of this movie. Reeves is pulling stuff from Ego. Pattinson read a bunch of Batman comics even as they were still filming. Kravitz read Year One. Dano researched puzzles.

I mean, JJ Abrams claimed to be more of a Star Wars than Star Trek fan and yet the Sequel Trilogy missed on like every mark of what Star Wars is.

What are they basing the characters on? Year One I presume, given Riddler was more of a terrorist in that.

Nah I don't think that's necessarily true, they build in way too much fan-service and references. It's just that well, movies have to be seen by as many people as possible to make a profit, so they need to cater to as many people as possible, not just comic book readers.

And they made some really good movies; even if they are all way beyond overhyped IMO. Still cool to watch though.

There seems to be quite a bit of Year One influence here. This might be the most "Year One" a Batman movie's ever felt stylistically.

The whole corruption angle, Selina possibly being a prostitute, the emphasis on the detective stuff.

GizmoTron 10-18-2021 05:30 PM

Probably a bit of Zero Year, too, since that was a Batman origin story that heavily featured Riddler as the main baddy.

RodimusZX 10-18-2021 10:28 PM

Idk, I just feel compelled to comment again since I am sitting here day after day hoping we'll get a new drop of non-Batman DC figures and it never comes... it's so hard being a DC fan that's lukewarm on Batman. He's OK, but I MUCH prefer their mythical/Greek god-type superheroes. It's especially rough when we get back-to-back Batman-only waves, and the only things in between we've gotten were Lex and Swamp Thing... LOL! Good one, Todd!!! I hope those Aquaman and Martian Manhunter rumors are true, but I'm starting to think it's some wishful fan just pretending and getting all our hopes up. I just wish it were at least 50/50. Even Marvel/Hasbro's smart enough to sprinkle in random unknowns in their BAF waves with their cash cows. Maybe DC doesn't have anyone as smart as Jesse Falcon to lead the McFarlane team, or maybe it's Todd's narcissistic passions out of control, who knows. But it also sucks that they have the master right now, so ANY hopes of DC figures lie solely on their shoulders right now. Can't really count MAFEX or Spin Master either, since SM's stuff is way too kid-ified, and the MAFEX guys only produce what they want, and most of them are huge Batman nuts.

IzzyTipsy 10-19-2021 06:11 AM

I hear you. Seeing Lobo and Luthor and SBP gives me hope we'll at least get more than Batman. But then again, we never even got Cheetah from the movie.

But even with Batman, it's also the same few characters for the most part. No proper Harley, Riddler, Catwoman, Scarecrow, or Bane. No underserved characters such as Ivy, Freeze, Penguin, etc.

Ivy would be GREAT. Freeze too. What sucks is that McFarlane has great sculptors and talent, they're just being underutilized. The Luthor sculpts for example are superb! And so I can only imagine how good an Ivy would look... sigh.

Thing of it is is that it's a multi-layered issue. Batman is the top selling DC brand, Todd's line is still relatively new compared to say Hasbro with Marvel and they're trying to get a larger foothold in the market and needs to stick with what sells the best. Plus you have a parent company like DC/Warner who tells them what they want them to make, and since there's a new Batman movie coming they want to see some new Batman toys to go with it.

Give it some time, though, and I think you'll see more variety down the road. There's also a new Shazam, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Black Adam movie coming and when they hit we'll certainly see more figures for those.

BarbaraGordon 12-29-2021 04:35 AM

Will Penguin get made? He's on the back of the cardboard boxes.

I think another wave of Batman figures is unannounced. They will likely pull the ZSJL nonsense. Alt heads and figures exclusives. Probably expect Penguin to be like a Target/Walmart exclusive.

It's unfortunate that McFarlane has chosen this approach. Several of the Fortnite figures have easily removable heads (and even necks). The Black and Red Wild Cards both came with swappable heads, as did White Knight Joker.

Bah, humbug.

There've been rumors that McFarlane will release two different motorcycles, but they look really similar.

Looks like his jacket is 3 sizes too big for him...

This is a 3d printed and hand painted head from Oldboy, from back when the first trailer dropped. I popped it on the McFarlane Arkham body. It's in shadow because the 3d print is not clean, but you get the point. I was hoping for something official closer to this on the Batsuit body at some point.

on the plus side- that head looks small enough (like a lot of the McF heads) to work on a 6in figure

Designincase 01-01-2022 11:00 AM

Okay seeing a set picture..........it's a terrible looking figure that really didn't need to be made.
Honestly I'm going to be incredibly negative on this figure.

Comedian 01-01-2022 12:13 PM

Barf.

Freaking awful. Jacket to big, head to small. Always looking to his right. Just lousy. I love Todd, but he needs glasses. How can anyone release this image and think it will get good reviews?

zonedweeby 01-01-2022 02:48 PM

you guys, bruce skipping arm and head day at the gym is a major plot point in the movie

Skoob 01-01-2022 03:15 PM

They're actually serious! They're not kidding!

I was looking forward to a really good Hot Toys rendition of a clean, trim tactical suit with a classic emblem and the ears finally done right, Instead, we're offered Tent City Bruce Wayne, Gahhhh... I have such a bad feeling about this movie...

The trailers make the movie seem like a re-hash of Nolan's trilogy, not just the "realistic" angle but in terms of the scenes, settings, scenarios, etc.

The Penguin's over-enunciation of words (just like Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins)
Batman zooming up and down with his grapnel through a circular stairwell (Batman Begins)
Batman fighting people in a crowded dance club (The Dark Knight)
The Riddler's "live stream" is just an internet-ized version of Joker making a video recording that was then broadcast on TV in The Dark Knight
Batman walking through a dark tunnel with strobe light effects from guns (The Dark Knight Rises)

And yes, Paul Dano is playing Riddler, not Joker, but this Riddler seems more interested in testing Batman than in carrying out an agenda about himself (such as committing crime to make money). This is pretty much identical to the Heath Ledger Joker in The Dark Knight, down to the interrogation scene in the police station. Plus lots of Joker/clown goons, so either there's going to be a build up to Joker, or -- wild theory -- this Riddler will become Joker somehow.
