In terms of thematic cohesion, design, and ultimate execution the Eternal wave seems to have gotten more TLC than did the MCU Thor wave. Even more interesting is that the Love and Thunder wave isn't getting pilloried for its tepid showing in the way that the Eternals did. It serves as a real time demonstration that support in the form of fandom (in this case, Thor fandom) will make for lying eyes as it regards these toys.

Agree with you there, I ended up cherry picking a few of the Eternal figures because of that, for some reason those seemed to have been really mass produced out of the latest MCU figures, where as Spider-Man NWH was so so...

And...yep $34 for Toad, which has a kinda small figure with 2 frogs (thats cool), an extra pair of hands & a head. Oh maybe the cardboard back drop is where the extra $15 comes in for the price? Give me a break. Why is Hasbro doing this? I don't care how inflation is, this is ridiculous. I'll save my money for the bread lines.

ddarko 04-20-2022 11:27 AM

Woah, that Ned is approaching Hot toys level of accuracy in the head sculpt lol. Also, maybe it’s a trick with the colour scheme, but the Silk head sculpt looks much cleaner and sharper compared to the rest of the figures.

Designincase 04-20-2022 12:14 PM

In regards to Eternals

Accurate(suit design wise but not body for certain characters, and they missed Ikaris face) but ultimately a boring wave. Very same designs with too much dependency on the skirt.

That both Marvel and Hasbro's fault. They put out too many figures at one time in a drought of ML figures. Each figure had a case of eight as well. Then Target and co refused to put them on a serious sale when they needed to.

It was like they though Eternals was much greater then Avengers. Or the production run was so complete that they couldn't depend on a slow rollout like usual. It was very all at once.

Thor I think is just going to do better.
Even if you don't want the whole wave, enough people want a few figures from the wave.

You got the folks looking for a GOG figure. Customers looking for a Thor figure.
Our villain might have some difficulty due to an uninteresting look and not being shown in a trailer yet.

"SR" 04-20-2022 12:28 PM

Almost $80 for that Knull/Venom set? I like it, but not that much. I had stopped collecting in 2020 just got a figure here and there as there were SOOO many figures out that year that I couldn't keep up. pretended Build-a-figures didn't exist and was pretty happy. Then The Ursa Major wave came out and the Armadillo wave and it sucked me back in. I went back and grabbed a bunch of figures I had missed out. The new crazy prices though have caused me to regret coming back. I'm out again, Transformers, Gi Joe and MOTU Origins only for me.

ShabbyBlue 04-20-2022 12:29 PM

So still no Spiderman Noir on Target??

TOAD for 2022

Who would have thought that the Marvel Legends fig on my list for 2022 would be Toad.

Toad action figure is so rare. Wasn’t there only 2 or maybe 3 Toad action figures ever made in the last 2 decades?

Designincase 04-20-2022 01:39 PM

For such a well known character, Toad doesn't show up even in the comics all that much. It's usually like "Oh Toad is still alive.........that's so weird considering".

EternianJerkian 04-20-2022 02:04 PM

i often forget he was even in the comics. Even 22 years later it's Ray Park version I think of when I see mention of the character. Maybe the X-Men Evolution one too aye. But almost never the comic one.

Oh, yeah, they made a ton of them. I think Hasbro overestimated how starved MCU fans would be (pandemic inspired film hiatus) and thought the big names in the cast would generate more interest. They were wrong, but I did my part and supported the wave despite knowing it would tank.

Now give me my comic-canon Eternals, Hasbro, to complete the deal.

eko32eko7 04-20-2022 03:27 PM

I preordered a couple of these, but I'm largely disappointed. The Lizard is okay, but not great and its an exclusive, so we will likely never see that for retail anyway. I'm always in the market for a clean, traditional looking Spider-man 6-inch figure and its good to see one in this wave, but the cost of entry is that its bundled with a newer character that Marvel/Hasbro - apparently - doesn't feel will sell on its own. I wonder why they think that. That doesn't make anyone feel great about continuing to collect this line. Doc Ock looks pretty cool too, but suffers the same fate as traditional Spider-man. I may have to cancel my order. I'm totally on the fence here. Paying extra for the SHF or Mafex versions is increasingly attractive. I add my voice to the stack. I wish I could muster more positivity. I used to really enjoy these announcements, but it seems as though there is a purposeful intension to tamp down any real excitement for primary, legacy characters.

And they always do stuff like this when it comes to including a normal Peter Parker unmasked head. For some reason doesn't have the Toybiz era foot articulation in the Toybiz version they're releasing?

I'm only really wanting the Lizard, which only comes close to replacing my Toybiz Lizard. At this point I'd rather find Iron Spider with a different company to stop giving them my money. Got back into collecting because of Hasbro, now thinking of stopping for the same.

It's not that big of a deal. This just the first Spider-Man to have toe tilt. It will not be the last.

Eternals came when they literally had no other MCU property to push. Everything else got pushed back. It was either fill the shelves with them and make it look full or leave it empty and admit they had no other product.

Thor on the other hand has people rushing out to break open cases sitting on pallets at Walmart hoping to get them even before they're supposed to be sold. These figures will probably hit saturation at some point, obviously, but they won't be the clearance fodder Eternals figures were.

MandaVran 04-20-2022 04:04 PM

If that venom figure is the same as 2018 I know what I'm doing

It's funny you mentioned that because I have never read a comic with Toad in it.

Granted, now that I have the original 64 issue run of X-Men that will change soon, but I have never ever seen him in any comic from the Claremont era nor the stuff I grew up with in the 90s and even in the Hickman Powers/House/Dawn stuff.

Newer character? Ain't that Mary Jane but with spider-powers? So not that new a character but a recent version of a popular character who's been around since almost as long as Pete has? And her being his wife in that universe much to the joy of legions of fans who were upset that Marvel undid the main Spidey and MJ marriage? We talking about that Renew Your Vows set or am I mixing it up with something else? Some of these threads sometimes be a lil tricky to follow lol

Though heck I still find it super creepy there was a Gwen Stacy figure in the past year or so that had an alternate Mary Jane head like no one at Marvel or Hasbro thought that's bloody weird to put the head of Peter's later love interest onto the body of his dead one. lol

His last appearance (of any prominence) that I know of is the recent Trial of Magneto mini, but before that I couldn't tell you when he last appeared. My mind literally draws back to Morrison's New X-Men, but I sure he's at least been in something within those 20 years.

Frankly I know Toad best from his incarnation on X-Men Evolution rather than anything he ever did in comics. And of course the first X-Men movie.

Cyclopswc 04-21-2022 05:53 AM

Was the Target Spider-man Noir ever available? I just know he didn't appear on the website for a long time, but when I checked and he appeared, he was already sold out.

They're toys, so I didn't find it weird at all.

However, I think the MJ head goes better with the Moira body, at least until a better option is made.

jscott991 04-21-2022 06:15 AM

After all the people trashing these reveals, I thought they would be easy to get, but the MJ two pack sold out in most places in minutes.

Hasbro has a better feel for what people want than the forums and Twitter I guess.
