Took like a few weeks before the site finally cooperated, but I was finally able to order most of the line this morning! Still no ability to add John Stewart to my cart and the Batwing is showing as out of stock, but Darkseid, Supes, Batman, and the Supermobile should be here tomorrow!
Now to get John and my two Batwings... |
I bet I've made 15 trips to Walmarts in my area trying to find the Supermobile. So I tried to order off the website, both for pickup (multiple stores said they were in stock), and then delivery from the site when magically all of those stores claimed they didn't have it. Once I placed my online order... walmart.com emailed me a cancellation notice because the Supermobile is out of stock.
I've been to stores that have the shelf stickers for these in place, but no Super Powers product at all. In general the toy sections of Walmarts here are currently a war zone. Their resets are not going well at all, and there are aisles glutted with stacks and stacks of clearance merchandise. |

I'm getting flashbacks to GI Joe Classified and Retro '66 Batman, and if this stuff doesn't fix itself I'll just be dropping this line too and be back to zero modern lines. I absolutely despise how this hobby is run right now. |

Of course, after my whiny bitch post this morning, I walked into my local store and saw this. They all look so great. Still grumpy about the process of getting them in hand… I guess it’s just the way it goes with Walmart.
|
Walmart's dependency on their local stores having product to fulfill online orders is both pragmatic and incompetent, and has made this all a frustrating ride, especially when my closest Walmart hasn't had a toy aisle reset so far this year. Keeping open BG tabs and refreshing them every hour or so has finally let me order the Batwings and re-order the Supermobile. If these don't get canceled then I'll have all of Wave 1!
I assume that Wave 2 has more figures because they don't have any vehicles? |
The Supermobile is dope! And the Batwings are cool, but both of them broke on me. One broke when I closed the canopy(!) and the other had its hinge already snapped in the box before I opened it.
It's a tiny little tab made of brittle clear plastic holding back a spring that is way too strong on only one half of the hinge... it's pretty much designed to snap. :/ |
Courtesy of McFarlane's NYCC panel, new Super Powers items!
The figures continue the mix of modern and retro while cementing accessories as a regular feature to look forward. https://i.imgur.com/OL8sRmn.png The vehicles also continue the dual price point, with the smaller Invisible Jet coming in at $19.99 and the larger Batmobile at $29.99, mirroring the prices of Wave 1's Batwing and Supermobile; it remains to be seen if the Batwing's raise to $29.99 was a fluke, or a signal of Walmart's intent to unify the line's vehicle prices despite the obvious size/quality differences between the offerings. https://i.imgur.com/ZFBxGAR.png |
Love seeing the Super Powers branding, I grew up with them in the 80's and they were a ton of fun. The little gimmick "moving parts", the mini-comics, better articulation than Secret Wars figures, and nice classic designs were all cool features. I had a ton of them plus stuff like the Batmobile.
These McFarlane ones I suspect are for more of a younger crowd, they don't really capture the vintage feel for me. Like I associate Batman with the yellow logo from that era, and I'm not even sure what's going on with this Wonder Woman. The Superman's not too bad other than the cape being too long. It is fun seeing the old Supermobile again (I remember the old Corgi ones back in the day), but even here I'm going to nitpick again as the "S" logo isn't really period correct and just looks kind of off. I wish someone like Super7 was doing these, they seem to have the retro "close enough" approach down. |
Finally Wonder Woman, love the sculpt!
|
Wonder Woman's face sculpt looks way too good for that "retro" feel but I ain't complaining.
Now Todd, upscale this into a Multiverse figure, please. |
That Invisible Jet is so cute! Looks like Hasegawa's series of Egg Planes.

Edit: never mind. It’s a different toy jet. I do still hope WW jet will be transparent. |
Gold Label should just be an empty box
|
I really like what McFarlane is doing overall--also, he keeps making Hasbro look like schmucks by out-pricing and out-valuing them, which is delightful--but at my local Wal-Mart, they keep adding the new Super Powers figures to the existing ones, and they are spilling out onto the floor, as well as stacking up on the top shelf above the pegs. Nobody's buying these. Right now they are destined for hard-core clearance.

Green Lantern (John Stewart ), Deathstroke the Terminator and Reverse Flash.
Hopefully, we get more figures from the unreleased list. |
I'd be down for Brianiac's ship.

It's very chibi in style. I wish it was a little bigger/longer like her real animated jet, but I guess it's better than nothing. I welcome any NEW Super Powers vehicle to add to my vintage collection. I'm eager to see the final painted version of his Batmobile
|
Clear plastic has a tendency to break easily, turn brittle, and turn yellow in a short period of time. Hopefully the jet won't be plagued with any of that.

Swappers are gonna love this. They can just return an empty box to the store!
I liked the jet/plane better than giving WW flying powers. It was part of the cheese factor, a time of innocence. Before Wonder Woman carried a sword and killed people. |
