the trailer was a drag.
|
I think the trailer lacked action other than the lame scene with Bats and Catwoman in a shitty Batwing adaptation. I'm one of those faithful Batman hopefuls and am proud to admit it, but I am on the fence about this footage. Christopher Nolan has proven to be a fantastic and capable director thus far, but I'm hoping that he is pulling his punches until the release of the film, because I am not impressed.

Either way...you know you're still gonna go and see it like the masses.
|
You bring up an interesting point. If it were anything else I would be skeptical, with the exception of Avengers because everyone is seeing that. I can trace my interest in Batman way back to my youth, seeing how a VHS tape of a decent flick back then was solid gold. To put things in perspective, the masses lean toward anything that sparkles and shines, and this time around it just happens to be Batman related.

im throwing this prediction out there only for the US release not WORLDWIDE.....the movie will have a HUGE opening weekend, but the 1st maybe 2nd week its out its going to take a dive. lot of ppl already bashing "bane" and catwoman and word of mouth is going to kill it. its not going to do ANYTHING close to the dark knight's numbers i will say that right now, for one reason and one reason alone.......heath ledger's performance as the joker
remember i said that |

I will still be there opening night, either way. |
Saw the trailer with avengers and I wasn't blown away but I'm still pretty excited. Now people are gonna compare it with avengers for sure but they're gonna end up being two different kinds of movie completely. Numbers wise I don't think it'll be as big as TDK or Avengers, right now it feels like a smaller film for some reason.
Maybe thatscjust cause it's early and the avengers hype has the spotlight though, we will see. |

We have a question for you.
Do you automatically assume that TDKR will be better then The Avengers(or The Amazing Spider-Man) just because its Nolan's Batman? If so............why? |

avengers kinda set the new standard for superhero movies.

I really enjoyed Avengers, but Dark Knight Rises is the movie I'm really waiting for.
|
I think Bruce Dies, but Batman lives on.....
Think about the line from Batman begins..... "People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy, and I can't do that as Bruce Wayne. As a man, I'm flesh and blood. I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol … as a symbol, I can be incorruptible. I can be everlasting". There showing the 3rd Rock kid a lot in that trailer and I think Somehow Someway he becomes Batman.... |

Avengers is the movie we all deserved but The Dark Knight Rises is the movie you need right now? Got it. :p I can't wait to see how this wonderful trilogy will complete itself for its 3rd instalment. I could bitch about the choice of actress for Catwoman as well as costume or how bane doesn't look as imposing as I'd hoped for, but the truth is my faith is in the direction of Nolan and his vision for these characters. His movies outside of the Batman saga are equally as good. I can say that while I do love the crime drama that this series is spectacularly known for, in the post-Nolan era, I sincerely look forward to the prospect of a return to the comic book feel of Batman that the success of The Avengers has created potential for. To clarify that statement, Nolan's Batman (specifically TDK) created the notion that in order to yield a huge comic book blockbuster superhero movie with rave reviews and a global intake meeting or exceeding $1 billion off one movie alone, it would need to be a "darker" and more "realistic" take on the series. This notion was so readily accepted that not only is Man of Steel reportedly taking a cue from the darker Earth 1 Superman story line but even the Amazing Spiderman took heed and is displaying a much darker Peter Parker/Spiderman than we're used to. Sure Iron Man proved you could maintain a good balance of humor, action and suspense and still make for a great movie, however, there's definitely no denying that Avengers proved there's plenty of comic book magic to be appreciated in movie form. That's what Avengers felt like to me. Not a live action comic book movie, but an actual comic book brought to life. |
Wasn't feeling the trailer when watching Avenger's, although that latest gadget of him flying was pretty awesome. I'll probably watch it a week later. But the Spider-Ma trailer was way bad ass.
|
I have no faith that WB can make a good justice league movie. You know they will try given avengers' sucess. Every DC movie in the last 10 years(batman excluded) has been crap.
|
Well since this has become another Avengers thread I'll point out that the Avengers was set up far in advance to include characters that do great on their own, so obviously putting them all together in one movie would work out well. I also feel like the idea of having another somewhat realistic Batman movie is a good thing, I don't want to keep seeing the same type of movies over and over, so having TDKR and Avengers suits me just fine.
|
While I believe the right directors received the right jobs for their respective movies, I thought some of you might enjoy this article for the hypothetical scenario.

Kevin Smith comments about The Dark Knight Rises
Kevin Smith Talks Bane In 'Dark Knight Rises' | Video | MTV Other quote of his that I read recently: “I’ve been geeking out pretty hardcore for the last three to four weeks now about ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Oh my Lord, I haven’t watched a trailer that much since maybe the 1989 ‘Batman.’ I’ve probably seen ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ trailer more than I’ve seen the trailers for all my movies combined. I’ve been following it online like crazy. I’m constantly wondering if Warner Bros. is out of their minds, because we’ve seen [paparazzi shots of] the Batwings, we’ve seen Catwoman’s outfit. And Chris Nolan is such a secretive dude, he must be going out of his mind! When you shoot distance footage of these big movies, it looks so dopey. When it’s shot across the street on a cell phone camera, you’re like, 'that looks weird.' All that Bane footage has proved to me is that Bane is not the main bad guy. My main theory is that Ra’s al Guhl [Liam Neeson in ‘Batman Begins’] is coming back. I think they’re like, ‘Look at Bane, look at Catwoman, look at the Batwing!' And it’s just to distract from the fact that something we don’t know about is coming in. For us to see as much footage as we’ve seen, it sounds like a bait and switch.” -Kevin Smith |

No problem. When I read that last part it really made a lot of sense but who knows what Nolan will do?
|
I could have sworn that I heard Ra's is supposed to be in this movie so if it turns out right this could be as big as the Armageddon 2001 early reveal ;)
You may have been reading comics too long if you even remotely know what I'm talking about |
SPOILER kinda
Liam Neeson is in the IMDB listing for TDKR. As Ra's. |
