The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Review - IGN

Newsarama.com : AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Review - 10/10: The Reboot It Needed

I personally can't wait to see it. Wasn't a fan of Toby's Spidey at all. Was a fan of Spider-man 2 though. Doc Oc was awesome in that movie.

a 10/10? Newsarama might be getting paid under the table for giving that kinda score. After seeing the trailer, ill believe the 6/10 way more.

Tiberius 06-27-2012 03:13 PM

8/10

Meet in the middle.

jaybird7072 06-27-2012 03:34 PM

I think anything that this spiderman has will be better thn the first batch of spiderman movies.. i hate toby with a passion ;)

trebleshot 06-28-2012 06:00 AM

So I take it you're not a fan of Seabiscuit either? ;)

Personally, I think it's impossible for any movie based on a comic to get a perfect score (even Avengers or TDK). But I'll decide for myself when I go see it next week.

Deadp00l 06-29-2012 08:18 AM

I'm really excited for the movie. The new Peter had a lot of potential more than that whiny Toby. Can't wait til Tuesday!!!

jjk1120 06-30-2012 05:04 PM

I'm gonna go in with an open mind, but this just doesn't excite me. I care a lot about things in the Spider-man world, his parents aren't one of them.

I don't think a reboot was necessary, we already know Spidey's origin.

Spacemafia 07-01-2012 07:03 PM

Im excited!!

I think he makes a great Peter and the right build for Spiderman. I hear he wisecracks in this one....which gets me pumped!!

I cant wait!!

mindmeldx 07-03-2012 01:20 AM

I just saw it. I actually liked it. The acting and casting was a million times better than the trilogy. LOVE Garfield, Stone, and Sally Field.

Greenskar 07-03-2012 02:50 AM

Just saw it. Good movie. Garfield nailed Spider-man, I felt his peter was too cool compared to comics maybe closer to ultimate peter.

Definitely not a 10/10 but a 7.5/10 for me. Liked it better than old SM 1&3 but not better than SM 2.

vampireheart 07-03-2012 03:02 AM

Agreed loved how it didnt throw anything crazy to the esential story out the window...Im looking at you X-Men First Class, though that was a god movie if you take it for what it was.

WalkingDeadpool 07-03-2012 07:25 AM

First Class....Don't get me started on that craptastic movie....Anyways glad the good reviews are coming in...Can't wait to see it...

TheSymbiote 07-03-2012 07:42 AM

Damn you midnight viewers lol
We're going to see it in IMAX 3D today, convince us to go in 2D because we only care for the IMAX not 3D. lol

For those of you who saw it already, Do you think it has a chance at surpassing The Avengers box office gross in anyway?

bmorr 07-03-2012 08:15 AM

Ill wait to find this online after getting burned watching SM3 in theaters. That movie was shit, and im not getting fooled a second time.

Save $ if the movie isn't to your expectation if you see it in 2D, if it is than you can go see it again in IMAX 3D:p

Heck no, highly doubt it...

Tiberius 07-03-2012 09:25 AM

Seeing it tonight. I want to see it in Imax 3D but DAMN ticket prices are redonk. Could buy 2 action figs for the damn price...

trebleshot 07-03-2012 09:50 AM

Going to attempt to see it tonight or possibly tomorrow afternoon, assuming I'm able to get tickets.

At least it was better than X3 and XMO:W.

nakobass 07-03-2012 09:59 AM

Don't feel like seeing Spider-man's origin again. I'll wait until it gets to the dollar theater. Seems to be getting some mix reviews. Most say it's better then SM3, but not as awesome as Spider-man 2.
Hey, is J Jonah in Amazing Spider-Man? No one has mentioned him in the reviews?

No JJJ is not in this movie.

When I say its not better than 2 its mostly because of the wonderful job Alfred Molina did with Doc Oc. Sometimes superhero movies are only as good as or accentuated further as a result of the antagonist in the film

TDK - Joker
Avengers- Loki
Superman 2 - General Zod

Not to say that other movies like Iron Man or X2 weren't good despite villains who, while played decently enough just weren't the lasting memories that a Heath Ledger Joker was. And that to me was the biggest drawback of this movie. The actor plays Kurt Conners well enough, but the Lizard himself just isn't a very captivating villian that makes you feel a sense of alarming threat any more than an Alien movie where the alien can't kill anyone on screen. Not to mention that the CGI on lizard looks horribly weak after seeing the great job Avengers did with Hulk.

The Lizard just isn't an A-list villain but that doesn't mean the movie was not good and not worth a watch on the big screen by any means. Garfield, Martin Short, Stone, Leary, Field and the guy who played Kurt conners who's name I can't spell all played their roles wonderfully and convincingly.

Also I guess not having an A list villain makes sense with a guy just learning to be a superhero. Also...webshooters > organic

nakobass 07-03-2012 11:46 AM

Did the Lizard even talk or have his own personality? That's what I remember the most about the Lizard. Kurt Conners was a good man and one of Spidey's Best Friends. The Lizard was just a evil disease that took him over. And I heard they didn't show his family at all. Not showing the Lizards humanity was a major mistake in my opinion.

yes he talks in the movie as the Lizard. His family is not shown but his humanity is at times I won't ruin. He feels like what he's attempting to do is for the betterment of mankind; a gift from him.

But even in the comics I never much cared for the lizard as a major villain. He'll always be a b Lister for me. Not a bad movie choice for a villain though for a reboot that regardless of what people say, was needed in my opinion. Its been a full decade since the first Spider-man movie. Maguire and Dunst have nothing on Garfield and Stone in both on screen chemistry and the respective roles they play. I much prefer this Spidey universe then the previous take and believe the sequel will be better now that the origin is out of the way.

Second this^

Tarooster 07-03-2012 01:36 PM

Just saw it, it was better than I expected to be honest. They definitely changed a lot of things from the original origin story, but it was still a really strong film.

vampireheart 07-03-2012 01:47 PM

Yea the basic story is there, it's like ultimate and amazing rolled into one cannon, as for the lizard there was no mention of his family but conners was shown to be married they showed his hand in close up through out the movie when he was mixing chemicals I think to point out his wedding ring without having to tell you. I would of loved seeing the relationship between spider man and conners kid though

TheLongestDay 07-03-2012 02:08 PM

BEST.SPIDEY.MOVIE.EVER. I felt it was an epic Spidey movie - with a great balance of realism and fantasy without going for the camp and wink wink nudge nudge of the previous movies..

Also for the first time in a spidey movie - I loved Peter as equally as Spider-Man and wasnt just marking time until he dons the mask for a change!

uberlad 07-03-2012 04:52 PM

Argh. While I thought the Spidey portions weren't terrible, and the Lizard was better than I expected, I couldn't stand the Peter Parker in this movie. The characterization just didn't seem right. He's supposed to be a nerdy academic, not an emo skateboarder. He's supposed to be shy and nervous around girls, not sneaking in Gwen's window.

Factor in the clunky plot and the fact they charged an extra $6 for an opening night ticket, and I was severely disappointed. 6/10
