This just came out on BBTS.
Really nice looking base and not so bad of a price. (Figures not included...)

I really need to break down and buy some diorama stuff for my Joes. I've been wanting to set up an urban display for some time now.

If you have any around you, go to Big Lots. They have these cheap little sets with wall pieces that you can arrange however you want. Pretty decent.

Ludo, that Scooby Doo mansion idea is Awesome! You need to make it happen!!

Having worked retail for way too long I realized a long time ago the value of styrofoam blocks! Various shapes and sizes that come in all sorts of packages. Ill post some pics, im generally too lazy to paint them but just some spray paint and they are perfect. Thy are however still white in all my displays.

Boba Fettuccini 08-30-2011 03:38 PM

I used to keep those all the time to make bases for my star wars toys as a kid. Inevitably my mom would throw them away after a month or two... but it rocked.

thechris 08-30-2011 03:47 PM

That Scooby Doo mansion looks great. What scale is it? I can see doing a Spider-man and his Amazing Friends display in that with Doc Strange, Namor and the others that appeared on the show. :)

Yeah! I remember one of the first little playsets I made when I was younger was the Penguin's lair based off Batman Returns. I loved that movie and the toys soooo much. The little Penguin commandos were one of my first instances of intentionally army building. Anyway, I just used those styrofoam inserts and carved pieces with a pocket knife to make it look like ice/rock. No painting required! I was actually really proud of it. That is until...

This happened. :(

The figures shown in the picture are just about the size of MU figures. Maybe just a little taller. So it's cutting it close. Actually, the way they sell this playset now is with images of smaller, Super Hero Squad-sized Scooby figures on the packages. And for the sake of not having to go back to find the pic, here it is again:

^ Nice Thor collection Boba. Is that King Laufey up there? Still haven't seen that bastard anywhere.

Boba Fettuccini 09-01-2011 05:28 PM

No, just a normal giant. I found one Laufey at a Fred Meyer about... oh... a month ago, and I didn't jump on it much to my regret. I mean, I can live without him, but all the same, having him wouldn't hurt.

HELL YES! I bought a horse in 3.75 scale last week and it's awesome- the saddle is held on with elastic straps and is removable, the neck and legs move and it was all of FOUR DOLLARS.

Perfect for my Black Knight custom- I just need to score some wings for horsey, paint him black and hook it up!

You need a custom Arcade and it'll make the perfect Murderworld!
Just add robots and stuff to fight hthe X-Men and Spider Man.

3 3/4". A tiiiny bit too short to really be MU scale, since they're closer to 4", but it's still a decent match. it's fromt eh Mezco Hellboy II 3 3/4" gift set. I got it at Superherostuff.com, but it seems I must have ordered the last one because it was in stock for months and months and now it's gone. A similar Hellboy (mouth is closed) was released as an SDCC exlusive which is still available from TRU packaged with a Golden Army robot thingy.

Hellboy ComicCon Exclusiv

I kinda wanna grab this one for the closed mouth head and the soldier, but I can't justify dropping that much on it when I just spent 3 saved paychecks in the last week...

Looking through eBay I found some auctions for the Spider-Man with Traffic Light post that I used in my displays, in case anyone is interested.

Here and here.

I've been buying some of these. Walmart has a pretty good "generic GI Joe" section with a lot of army type pieces for 3.75" ..dirt cheap too. I'm sure you know this already, but for people without a Big Lot around; there always seems to be a Walmart around.

kmart has some good ones to. i saw a nice construction site set with a wrecker, a bulldozer and a few orange construction site pick up trucks. they would go good with MU

Jason Abbadon 09-03-2011 06:40 AM

I was thinkning of geting some sheet styrene (also known as "For Sale" signs) and heating it up in boiling water, then inprinting the Hulk's fists into it.
Then I could add the styrene to a scale car or tank or whatever for that "Hulk smashed!" look...maybe even a Gundam type robot model.

Hulk loooves to samsh robots.

Boba. it's too bad that Hellboy is a bit small and is not cheap- he'd make an excellent addition to the Deadpool Corps!

do you have access to a heat gun? Ive worked with styrene before and it does the job pretty quick.

Well I just put him side-by-side with Deadpool, and they're actually the same height. DP ought to be a tad shorter than HB, but it doesn't look all that bad.

If you jump on the SDCC exclusive, I'll buy the Golden Army 'robot' from you after you get it. Help diffuse the cost...

Jason Abbadon 09-03-2011 04:56 PM

Bmorr, I dont have a heat gun but I was thinking of buying one...maybe tomorrow with the 50% coupon from Michaels art supplies!
If those art stores are in your neighbothood, check them out- thy are placing a circular in tomorrow's paper with that 50% coupon for any one item- last week I bought a magnifying lamp for all of $13 that way!

hmmm...

Boba, I'll probably have to pass on thte HB fig for now- just spent three Sentinels worth of my mad money on an original Brad Walker piece (is it still a sketch if it's inked?).
Still...I'll check around oline. Maybe someone has it on sale...

Boba Fettuccini 09-06-2011 12:00 PM

Well... I just accidentally won a Ghostbusters Firehouse. I only bid to see if it was in my price range at all. I bid $30 and got it for $26. It's missing the garage door.

Now to pay for it and make some room for it.
