It might get a bit pricy, although Cap figs are showing up at discount now, but it's pretty easy to add wrist articulation to the Cap A. 1st Avenger classic Cap mold figures.

Basically you just get a single carded fig & a delux fig, cut the arms off the regular figure, and swap the pinned lower arms (with articulated wrists) onto the regular fig. You will have to slightly enlarge the ID of the 'loop' elbow piece to fit the pin from the delux fig.

I should get around to taking pics of the rest of my Caps as I've done the same swap to the K-mart 3-pack, Heavy Art., Ultimates & US Agent.

Very nice and great paintjob on that shield.

A straight up comparison shot of the Ultimate Caps. And I'm sorry, there's just no way Twiggy McBaby-head on the left is better!

Nothing to be sorry about, dude. It's nice to see someone else that doesn't automatically declare all MU superior. You should've compared the Winter Soldier's too.

Thanks for the pic. Please elaborate and add more pics if you can. I was thinking of going about the same end result but in a different way.

Isn't that the Dlx "Fortress Assault Mission" Captain America shield?

Robogeek28 09-23-2011 05:32 PM

Yes, yes it is. At least it's ONE of those deluxe Cap's shield, don't remember the name of him.

I use that same shield for my U.S Agent as well.:D

Colder Soldier 09-23-2011 05:37 PM

I use it for my USAgent too. It was sneaky how Hasbro got us to buy that dlx fig just for that shield.

It was even sneakier for them to give that movie Cap a normal shield yet give the comic Caps all weaponized ones.

I ended up buying three movie Caps just for the shields.

The Deluxe versions have a wrist swivel but no arm swivel and the basic versions are totally opposite. Why can't we have one that does both??? And I think all the MU versions are too skinny. I'm just full of complaints on this topic. :(

Agreed. We need a MU style Steve Rogers Cap, NEW MOLD, bulkier, with thigh swivels and rocker ankles. The MU ones are too skinny, Cap line ones are too short.

Cap line has the best regular shield, the one that comes with paratrooper Cap and movie Cap. Plastic straps FTW!

Jason Abbadon 09-23-2011 06:12 PM

Use the Steve Rogers head on the Comic Cap for perfection!

A much better look than the "blockhead" the fig comes with!

RenegadeOne 09-24-2011 12:01 AM

Great idea on that shield. I hadn't even payed attention to the deluxe figures before.

That headsculpt looks amazing on that body mold! Wish he had a cloth mask but that's asking too much from hasbro, hell their QC is the shit dealing with molded plastic lol let alone cotton.

Good Stuff 09-24-2011 03:34 AM

The Cap in the up and coming ultimate gift set looks pretty good...I hope it'll be the version from the SDCC invaders pack since I never had the opportunity to get it (like most others)

the sad thing about that set is that i'd only get it for the translucent shield to give to commander rogers. i expect to find a few sets with it swapped out.

RenegadeOne 09-24-2011 03:54 AM

Nice. I didn't even notice that one came with a translucent shield.

I would hope one of the customizers would make a clear shield, but it might be too costly or not that much demand for such a thing. Definitely would have made sense to include with the Rogers figure.

Ok attached some pics of the rest of my modified 1st Avenger Caps, and snuck my Cap Iron-Man in there as well.

Yes my US Agent previously pictured is sporting the black & red shield from the Fortress Assault deluxe Cap.

All the Cap figs were modified with lower arms w/ wrist articulation from the deluxe packaged figs.

Heavy Art Cap has shield from one of the deluxes
Cap Iron-Man has shield from Heavy Art Cap
Ultimates Cap has shield from a MU Cap
Kmart Cap is as-is other than modified lower arms. - My favorite classic style Cap. Like the darker blue color and the white shield instead of silver.

I too thought of that when I saw the SDCC pics, but the thor is also a selling point for me

Ok as requested earlier more details on the lower arm swap - with pictures

Note: B&P - boil and pop method involves warming water, hot - does not need to be literally boiling. I use regular coffee mug full in standard home microwave for 2min. Dip part to soften in the water for up to 30 seconds or so. Plastic will soften and allow removal of pins, wrists, elbow, ankles etc.

Step 1 - Using B&P soften elbow joint of deluxe figure. Remove elbow pin. I use blunt back end of drill bit, piece of small metal rod to push pin through, or sometimes screw-driver feature on small swiss-army knife to pry sides of elbow off ends of pin.

Step 2 - With arm/elbow joint still warm from B&P (or rewarm), remove pin and lower arm completely.

Step 3. - (GI Joe parts pictured, Cap A figs same style contruction), Using B&P soften entire arm/upper arm on standard figure and remove lower arm and elbow joint from upper arm.

Step 4. - The lower arms on these figures are made of a softer, more flexible plastic that is molded around the elbow/lower arm swivel joint piece which is previously cast out of harder plastic. So there is an internal 'pin' of softer material molded through the elbow/lower arm swivel joint. Using an exacto or similar, slide knife down 1 side of hard plastic elbow joint piece and cut through internal pin.

Step 5. - Using B&P soften lower arm and remove hard plastic elbow/lower arm swivel joint from single-carded figs lower arm

Step 6A. - NOT PICTURED - you will need to ream out the hole in the standard figure'ss elbow joint/lower arm swivel loop. You could use the exacto knife from before, or small drill bits, or small file, or I use a dremel with small diamond grit bit. You don't need to enlarge the hole very much, just enough for the elbow-pin from the deluxe figure to fit through. Use the pin to check fit as you remove material.

Step 6B. - As pictured slip hard plastic elbow joint/lower arm swivel loop into slot in deluxe figures lower arm. Soften lower arm with B&P and reinsert pin.

Step 7. - NOT PICTURED - Soften upper arm of standard figure and reinsert barb from elbow/lower arm swivel joint now pinned into the wrist-articulated lower arm from deluxe figure.

as for a current Capt (so no WW2 era) teh heavy artillery Captain America is the best, the MU mold is good but he's too skiny and everyone knows it, the new one is big and bulky which reminds me of the ML Face off Captain America (best Captain America EVER!!!!....and the Icons version....) he also has a better head and face sculpt and better shield.

Boba Fettuccini 09-24-2011 05:07 PM

People looking for better shields might wanna check Target... the First Avenger comic 2-packs just clearances at mine for about $4 apiece, so I got one of each and they came with the hard plastic shields...
