I'm not really embarrassed about toy collecting, but I'm really embarrassed about the fact that I post on sites where people have shirtless actors as their avatars. Yikes!

I have always been a nerd and loved toys. I really don't care what other people think of me especially becouse I realize everyone has hobbies. Mine is no worse then any others and its far better then some. So yeah I have no issue being 23 thin and strollin down the toy isle. Hell Im even proud of my collection.

I have had my older sisters try to put me down and I had a friend who was very judgemental. I just really didn't care they were all screw ups in life anyway. Besides that most people think its neat cuz I probably have something that they are interisted in or its from something they like. I also have my full collection for all the world to see.

Well, think of all the idiotic things deemd more acceptable- smokiing, drinking, drugs, sports crap (so much money I see blown on this), car extras, stereo stuff...

As to collecting, if you can think of it, someone does it and it's their "thing".

SCREW THE HATERS! BE PROUD OF YOUR THING!
Whatever that thing may be- if it makes you happy, and it's not hurting anyone, it's worthwhile.

On the subject of drugs, I think there's another thread for that.

Its easier to admit to people that you're on them than it is to admit you still play with toys, because drugs are like cool and stuff.

But I don't do drugs.

No, not really, I was just attempting to use humor to diffuse an extremely volatile thread.

Sorry I must have missed the humor, it can be very hard to get the emotion your trying to pass through text without emoticons. Best bet for this thread?

Get back on topic.

I think we're contributing to this in a way in that we're acknowledging that there is even a hierarchy of acceptability. Also, I think that collecting sports memorabilia (although, I myself don't do this except for a ball cap and shirt I got signed by Quinton "Rampage" Jackson when I met him at an MMA event) is just as valid as any other forms of collecting. Cars and car extras, why not? Again, not hurting anyone. Stereos, not hurting anyone (except maybe their ears). We're creating a huge generalization here as well as making it look like we can only do one or the other. One of my friends loves sports, but he also collects some toys. He doesn't have a beef with me with toy collecting.

I used to buy lots of little things for my car to fancy it up. I don't think we can rightfully judge others on what they spend their money on if it doesn't hurt anyone else if we ourselves do not want to be judged. The moment you start picking back at someone for their own innocent harmless hobbies, you're contributing to the problem, I think. Then it becomes toy collector vs baseball card collector, toy collector vs car aficionado, toy collector vs audiophile instead of toy collector vs douche bag. In a perfect world, it would be good people vs douche bags. Down with the douche.

*************

In regards to the drugs, alcohol, smoking... Yes, it's always easier to pick at these because they can potentially have negative effects on others. I usually don't have an issue with this unless it affects me or someone I care about. I do have the odd drink, or have. I don't really so much anymore. You can bet, though, that if someone who has any of these vices were to challenge me on my toy collecting, the gloves are off. Like I said, though, I have RARELY been made fun of regarding my toy hobby. When I am, though, he/she is usually the one that looks like the jerk to everyone else, not me. So too bad for them. Ha.

Interesting views on all sides. One thing anyone can try and do is not make it look like you have a lot of stuff. A little touch and you can make a massive collection look awesome to anyone. Take Sentinels "man cave" for instance. This room is so awesome you forget it's a room full of toys. You guys have to see this room:
My Transformers Room- over 1000 TFs displayed - TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards

Granted it may be expensive to have this setup. But at least you can get some inspiration from it. Who wouldn't want to hang out in a room like this?

my f***ing god......beutiful. thats easily 5000 dollars worth of plastic right there. and this guy made it perfect. howevor those bright and probably hot display lights are gonna yellow the plastic.

Xcaliber037 10-19-2011 07:53 PM

Depends on what kind of lights are used. Read the thread. There's some good info on lights. Sentinel said he is using UV protection on the lights and that he hasn't experienced any issues. I believe him because anyone with a Fortress Maximus is going to be careful with it. I personally wouldn't have them on all the time but if I know someone is coming over I'll turn on the "museum".

Exactly, and those exact critics I'm sure have something of equal value they would mock if it wasn't for the fact they do it. It's just hypocrisy so they can feel superior over someone else for whatever lame reason instead of being content with their own lives.

But now, I couldn't care less. My money, my choice, my life.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Except for that old part. I'm dreading that triple decade mark. It's bad enough I'm in the three times nein year now. T_T My inner child weeps with every passing year that signals nearing time to start planning a family and stop being selfish.

People buy precious moments, models, statues, gone with the wind barbies, presidential barbies, stamps, coins, old books, video game memorbilia and more. How is it any different?

I just happen to enjoy comics. They've brought many things to the table over the years to think about before the mainstream brought these real life concepts to light by modern discoveries. They can remind us of old quotes from great wisemen, and more. I just enjoy having physical representations of designs I like, stories I've enjoyed, and characters that may have had an impact on my aesthetic design choices over the years, whether they be from comics, video games, or other mediums like movies and tv. I enjoy representations that allow me variety to how they are posed. So static statues don't do anything for me as they tend to get boring in just that one pose unless it's just something that amazing. Transformers themselves have that added fun of being fun little rubiks cubes in their nature too. Well, if you don't read directions at least.

Something I learned about fort max... Years of age and caked on dust can protect it from any light damage or home aging or others smoking near it. I was surprised when I cleaned mine up to sell it how pristine it became with no wear. Heck, I'd never seen colors that vibrant after I was done cleaning him. Almost made me feel bad for selling him.

Dude, sorry. It was my fault. Fortune caught D00mtr0n and myself playing with vintage Spinjas in the broiler room. There was speculation that CLASSIFIED was taking pictures. I don't know all the facts. Somehow, omega145 found out and put D00mtr0n in that weird move Sgt. Slaughter used to do when he became an Iraqi sympathizer where he rubbed his fist against the guy's forehead until he gave up. NBX Maverick tried to distract everyone by doing the thing where you put your head on a baseball bat and spin around three times. All hell broke loose. Then I got a papercut. Don't be embarrassed to collect toys. Instead, be embarrassed that you haven't bought enough of them. What are you waiting for? Go buy more toys. Now. The End. Also, the new show Whitney sucks and should be cancelled.

You guys make me feel a lot better about *really* wanting that Carrol Ferris SDCC Barbi doll (at least, I think it was a barbi).
And the Tonner dolls that are like, $200.
I also saw a really cool looking Samurai Ken doll recently I *almost* bought.

Thanks! You guys made me feel a lot better about wanting the superhero themed dolls, and such.

Like I said I feel no shame. I have a total of four dolls in my collection. 2 barbies (1 harley Quinn and 1 Joan Jett) I also have bleeding edge goth and Hasbro batman animated series Harley Quinn. If I could find them at a good price Id grab Cyndi Lauper, Supergirl, and Black Canary.

EDIT: I just checked and well I have another doll. I have a reel toys Bruce Lee
