Toywiz is a toy scalper, they can't get wave 10 (Wal-Mart Exclusive) at wholesale [via Mattel] the only way they would get them is if they have someone go to Wal-Marts to buy them.

GearsFreak86 09-28-2009 01:24 PM

Just individuals....but they're soldout.

Shin Densetsu 09-28-2009 01:34 PM

Of ALL the waves, this is one I DID NOT want to see go to Walmart as an exclusive. Why?
  • DCUC figures are HARD to find to begin with.
  • Newer waves of DCUC? I have more luck staring into space trying to see a ghost
  • Walmart exclusives easy to find? PSHHHH Chyyyyeaaaa-huh *sarcasm*
  • Joker and Manbat. I'LL NEVER FIND THIS WAVE!
Not to mention it surprises me that WALMART of all retailers got this exclusive. How did that happen? It would be much easier and make more sense if this was a Target or TRU exclusive.

I just checked Toy Wiz and for wave 10 it says pre order out of stock.

I am not sure I agree with all of that it was the inclusion of the Joker, arguably the most popular Batman villain, in this wave, it would have sold even better in a wave that is widely released. Really give me whatever Mattel is smoking.

I was at a Walmart in Raleigh nc back in Feb they had all of wave 5 and I wasn't collecting them at the time so I didn't know how rare they were now I kick myself in the butt every day because they were right there in front of me. I did find a riddler at a biglots in columbus for 7 dollars package was in good shape too walmart normally gives there left overs to places like that and people don't check so if ur still looking for earlier waves like 5 that might be a good place to start it might save u from having to pay a fortune for a 13 dollar figure.

Korben 09-28-2009 06:51 PM

There's more on eBay now! Damn this is frustrating!

They've been going up on ebay like crazy in the last 24 hours.

That's how the gotham city 5 was. Once it got to about this point on ebay how wave 10 is now is when I found it.

Yes quite a bit more though I am not interested paying $60.00 a figure.

jokerfan 09-28-2009 08:41 PM

My fear is in the long run because of the way mattel is running things these figures will not be worth the plastic they are made from I still keep mine in their package so I can pass them on to my kids but u can't blame walmart they were already morons before this line started and really there is nothing we can do because we will still keep buying them no matter how much we complain about it but it

Personally I collect them for nostalgic reasons. The Super Powers collection was my all time favorite as a kid. This line really takes me back Mattel even produced The Wonder Twins and a Vigilante which were supposed to be produced for Super Powers but never made it into production.

jokerfan 09-29-2009 08:27 AM

My first superpowers figure was batman, then dr fate that's why I love the dcuc so much I saw all 7 figures of wave 10 on ebay for 302 dollars and that was just the current bid. I hope that guys that stock the toys don't get too these before they get to the pegs because it will make it even harder to get them.

I know for a fact the WAL - Mart closest to me is dirty with employee scalpers. I have seen them at toy shows with tables. Once in a great while I find something there.

jokerfan 09-29-2009 09:31 AM

How do they get away with doing it I swear by the time I'm done collecting these my wife will have to comit me to a nut house. There is too much conspiracy involved with these it takeaways the fun out of collecting.

I do not know I was store manager for TRU for few years and we were told we can collect but if my Director found out any of us sold toys on the collector's market, we would lose our jobs due to conflict of interest. I got a story about 2 weeks before The Dark Knight Movie Masters came out an employee at one of the stores I go to offered to sell them to me at $30.00 each. I asked him how did manage to get away with it. He explained that a cashier he was dating rang them up as DCUC. I did not believe it at first but he went on break and we walked to his car and sure enough there they were.

jokerfan 09-29-2009 12:11 PM

That's crazy! I've noticed that the value of movie masters has droped allot too. I'm not tying to bust someones balls on their hustle but allot of these people are selling these on ebay for outrageous prices I would respect them more if they were just collecting them but there not. Being that u were a toys r us manager maybe u can answer my question, why has my toys r us only gotten 1 case of wave 8 and 9 and that's it and the cases don't even have all the figures for that wave why don't they Re order and get more? When they did get a case they were gone in 2 days if that and now they have the same old figures from wave 7 that haven't moved in 4 months.

Inventory Control probably dropped the shipping amount going to that store because not enough of wave 6 and wave 7 were sold to merit an increase for upcoming waves. There is also a possiblity that a close by Level A volume store takes precidence over the store near you when they are shipping from the distribution center . I would ask them what volume level they are and if there is a higher volume store nearby. This is true for a lot of other retailers as well. Wal - Mart included.

Megaprime80 09-29-2009 01:00 PM

I have been checking North Dallas area for the last week and a half and no luck.

jimster2010 09-29-2009 01:01 PM

Jokerfan, incidentally today I checked 3 stores locally and called 2 more as well as callled 5 stores in Illinois and nothing. No one claims to have received them.

jokerfan 09-29-2009 03:23 PM

I have called 4 walmarts in columbus, 1 in Charleston wv, and 8 more from near bye cities. I have a comic shop owner in houston tx and columbus oh looking as well with no luck when I called. They are willing to do this because I'm paying comic shop prices 17 dollars a figure which is better than eBay prices I have had to get 90 percent of my wave 8 and 9 from out of state comic shops including my wonder twins two pack. I have no Comic book stores within a 120 mile radius deom were I live and both of my local walmarts are full of back woods employees who no nothing about collecting and are more worried about hunting season and how many beers they are drinking that night!

So I didn't read it in an interview but in this e-mail that was sent out to Big Bad Toy Store customers regarding wave 9.

"Hi - we unfortunately have received bad news from Mattel on the DC Universe Series 9 assortment. They have informed us that they grossly under-produced this wave and that only about 25% of our order will be filled. Many other stores also apparently have suffered the same huge shortage, and the product is short across the entire market. We were extremely upset with Mattel for this news and have relayed to them how upset our customers will be as well.

At this point, we unfortunately do not expect any more shipments from Mattel. For those of you who ordered between February 13th and 14th, it is possible that your orders will fill due to cancellations and non-payment of orders from people who ordered before you (their cancelled orders will move to the next people in line automatically). If you ordered after these dates, it is very unlikely we will have any inventory, and we suggest that you purchase these figures anywhere else you may be able to find them. (You can view the date you ordered your product by logging into your BBTS account and viewing your preorders) We have heard reports they are showing up at mass market stores, and some should also be on ebay. We absolutely hate not being able to fill your order, but Mattel has really screwed up this wave and there is not anything we can do about it.

We are hoping that some sort of future production run of DCU 09 can be negotiated, but at this point there is nothing worked out. We will keep your preorders open in our system until we can determine if Mattel will produce more in the future or not. We will email you with any further news as we hear it from Mattel, hopefully something will be resolved.

The sales manager at Mattel did assure me that DCU waves 11, 12, and 13 would not suffer from the same issues, so we do not anticipate any shortages on those waves
"

Notice there is no mention of wave 10.

Below is a quick list of where some of the eBay sellers are located:

Bowling Green, KY
Saint Clair Shores, Michigan
Knoxville, Tennessee
North Canton, OH
Saint Louis, MO
Columbus, Ohio
Lockport, Illinois
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Somerdale, NJ
hillsdale, NJ
Mohawk, NY

You can see where the concentration is, (Map for reference) previously I have also seen sellers from Illinois and Indiana. Today is the first time I noticed Colorado. Everyday there are more and more places.

But all sellers on eBay only seem to have a couple figures at a time. As lucky as they have been to find them they seem to only be finding a couple cases worth of figures (20-14 pcs) at a time. I'm seriously thinking this wave aside from being exclusive will also suffer from wave 9-like shortages.

Lockport, IL is a 45 minute drive from where I live and I checked there and no dice. It seems the buzz about these has picked up as Wal - Mart employees in my area are now saying that everyone is looking for wave 10. Great.
