I was being sarcastic. There was a thread about this show, and how it is going to ruin things for collectors, last week. I bet out of the 26 people who knew of the show, about 9 probably watched it.

trebleshot 01-18-2012 02:16 PM

Well, to be fair, I was referring to the secondary market and not retail. For those who want to read up on the news story we posted and the resulting comments go here:

Thats what I thought, but you never know. I'm just saying that buying stuff at retail is really tough right now, because the selection sucks and stuff doesn't seem to get clearanced.

Merged the 2 :P

Any one watch it?

Crazy Jetty 01-18-2012 03:57 PM

I watched it off and on, flipping between it and something else.
My problem isn't with what he does, or with the current crop of scalpers.
My problem is that a lot of non-toy collectors have the stereotype that any old toy is worth money, and that all the current toys will be worth money 20 years from now. (And in fact, I know a few toy collectors who have that stereotype, too)
My worry is that this will only serve to push this stereotype further.

proteus 01-18-2012 04:21 PM

Well if they are that stupid, and cant be bothered to do the research then let em....as i said elsewhere in 6-12months time when they cant shift the shit they have crammed into their garages and cellars, they will pay you to take it off their greedy little hands!!RESULT!!!

bmorr 01-18-2012 05:19 PM

theyre just as bad as those two antiques guys on american pickers. bunch of swindlers.

Hmm. Mebbe. ;)

Its on the DVR, haven't had the chance to watch it. But my douche senses are tingling.

Of course it doesn't help that in most of those type of shows I don't really think highly of the people doing all the buying. Something just rubs me the wrong way...

This guy is *definately* going to rub you wrong, in that case. He's worse than all the guys on all the shows on History Channel.

He's also either intentionally misinformative, or he's not as informed as he thinks he is, because there was definately some wrong information in there, when he starts talking about toylines. (Such as declairing that MASK was a predecessor to Transformers)

blasekbh 01-18-2012 08:35 PM

The guy reminds me of that gay comedian "ant" haha. I thought a lot of his prices were reasonable from the sounds of it. I question the "Boba Bett" tou.

DogFashionDisco 01-29-2012 04:08 PM

Toy Hunters is on right now

Here is your 2nd chance to see this ridiculous show on Travel Channel. He just bought Care Bears. *barf*

Yeah, sorry. Didn't feel like searching for it. Delete this one for me? Pretty please?

MegaPrime33 01-29-2012 06:42 PM

Just watched it today where he had the missile firing Boba Fett. Pretty cool show. It's on the same vein as Hollywood Treasure. I'll have to remember to dvr the series.

cainraw 01-29-2012 07:07 PM

Its not....terrible, I guess. Dude on there is kind of a douche, but its a good concept.

roadrevenge 01-29-2012 07:09 PM

Not available in Canada....

Not available online....

Not available to download.. Legally or Elegally....

Guess I am never going to see a episode.......... Bummer..

Tiberius 01-29-2012 07:12 PM

Probably not missing out. We got hockey to watch anyways :P

scottmurdock 01-29-2012 08:07 PM

Some of the stuff he finds is cool (Boba, Bubbler) and he seems like he's not out to rip people off like the tall guy on American Pickers. It's a decent diversion to end the weekend.

DogFashionDisco 01-29-2012 08:12 PM

It was a mediocre show at best. I got the feeling that the people he bought from were only involved because they wanted to be on tv, and they didn't really need the money. Plus, everyone was involved with the industry, so it all just seemed very fake. And that guy at the end? Was he a drug dealer or something? I mean, who spends $17,000 on an action figure and doesn't even know the character's name?

scottmurdock 01-29-2012 08:18 PM

LOL, it was pretty funny when he was dropping "knowledge" about MASK and Star Wars that was totally wrong...my wife called him on his ewok knowledge fail, so awesome :)

Tiberius 01-29-2012 08:19 PM

LOL, This show sounds god awful... Like...honestly, I am going to get a pretty face and go hunt toys on TV. Watch it happen fellas!

DogFashionDisco 01-29-2012 08:23 PM

I don't see how this can be a recurring show, he could barely find stuff for the pilot.

trebleshot 08-08-2012 09:09 AM

Finally got around to watching the pilot. Can't say I'm impressed, though.

0:10 - I'd say SDCC has NYCC beat by a few thousand people, as far as "biggest event of the year for toy collectors" is concerned.

3:14 - No, MASK was not the precursor to Transformers. Transformers debuted in 1984, a full year before before MASK debuted in 1985. Get your facts straight or get a dictionary.

6:59 - No, the planet was changed from Kashyyyk to Endor (and Wookies became Ewoks) due to budget and script re-writes, not intentionally to make the series more "family friendly." Lucas himself has said this on numerous interviews.

12:56 - I call BS. He owns the oldest comic shop in Cincinnati and was around when Kenner first made Star Wars figures. He knew enough to call it a "Rocket-Firing Boba Fett" and he has no idea how much it's worth? Yeah, total set-up.
