I know how you feel, man. My head casts come out with bubble craters where their chins and noses should be. So everybody ends up with Milliput facial features. It hurts my feelings.

sweeeet =D yeah i'd mixed some darker reds, browns and skintones for mine but i did that a while ago. prolly gonna have to do some paint touch ups now that i'm more invested in the toy.

yeah some parts can get away with apoxie fixes since i'll be painting over em. even started making some iron man repulsor effects and haven't yet gotten a perfect cast. still debating buying an air compressor, hosing, and a pressure pot but will prolly have to save or sell some customs to afford them sooner.

haha thanks rodimus! and yeah man, i'd been learning how to mold and cast since november. bought various materials to see how well they'd work but overall i think i'm more into clear casts since most of the ideas i have require it. still planning on getting a few of those coats from you =D

RodimusVTS 04-12-2012 03:56 AM

Have you tried to cast shoulders, or other ball joints?

NoodleChow 04-12-2012 04:18 AM

you mean the actual shoulders and hinges and ball joints like the necks or MU hips? so far only cut out the ghostrider body type hinged ball neck peg and the wrecker neck peg and cast em to update the older figures with the hinged necks. planning on sculpting over the cable shoulders for super skrull and thinking i may try casting em for durability but dunno yet.

no prob, mr proteus. :thumbs if anything i'd prolly used the same dark brown from the body on the boots. i think my plan was to get it closer to the marvel select juggy colors.

cainraw 04-13-2012 04:46 PM

yourfacehere 04-13-2012 08:14 PM

thanks man, i use smooth-on's silicone rubber for the molds and this clear epoxy type i usually can get from michael's or blick's. not to also mention various dyes.

haha thank you, sir. gonna try to keep some of the fists translucent to go with the flames but all depends on how it looks when i finally start painting. and steal away, dude =D

FinnTheHuman 04-13-2012 10:29 PM

NOODLES! Holy sh!t dude where do I begin?! That black widow is freaking perfect! And, that Super Skrull...in all seriousness, can I buy some casts off of you? Those are literally too perfect to pass up.

thanks finn! yeah man, simple black getup with the widow head on there worked better than my original plan of using a repainted x23 head with phoenix hair. might add the collar and metallic purple highlights. but for now should tide me over till something more official comes along.

as for the super skrull bits, prolly won't be selling any casts unless i can streamline the process =D

FinnTheHuman 04-14-2012 04:56 PM

Heck, I'd take some of your reject casts! Too good man.

gunzilla 06-25-2012 06:45 PM

Skill is simply amazing you have a new fan and possibly a new student and customer lol

NoodleChow 06-25-2012 10:18 PM

hahaha many thanks, gunzilla :D hope i can help out in the future.

fallen69lee04 06-25-2012 11:47 PM

bro how do you do translucent cast's, so bad ass! i need to learn how to cast, awesome work like always brosky!

NoodleChow 06-26-2012 12:03 AM

thanks dude. pretty much just molding objects with silicone rubber and using some kind of clear resin. had been using this castincraft version but it requires a ton of work to make sure the molds don't have bubbles in em as well as heat so they don't come out tacky. best bet is to use a pressure pot to get rid of bubbles. planning on updating my tools and materials over the summer so i can get back into full on casting and customizing by the time SDCC is over.

basically learned by scouring youtube videos and various online tutorials over about a year or so before buying various products. from there it was just a ridiculous amount of trial and error. worked out since i also need to level up my sculpting skills and being able to cast those original parts is a good motivator.

FancyPants 06-26-2012 12:23 AM

Hasbros gonna send people to your house. Bad people

Peteparker 06-26-2012 09:43 AM

Ever thought of putting out some tips/tricks to casting? Sounds like you did a TON of trial and error, and came out with the best ways to actually pull it off in the end.

If MU stops coming out, casting might be our only hope...

NoodleChow 06-26-2012 10:14 AM

honestly, a lot of my trial and error had to do with the semi incompatible materials i used in addition to not having a pressure pot. i call it perseverance in the face of a small budget. if anyone is seriously thinking about getting into casting, try researching and getting a pressure pot on top of silicone rubbers and resins to get the job done faster and more accurately. i've yet to get or make one and i'm pretty sure it makes a serious difference.

mindmeldx 06-26-2012 10:23 AM

Great customs! I too have been casting with castin craft resin. Definitely need a pressure pot. If only I hadn't been laid off from my job. I could use the one there. keep the bad assery coming!

NoodleChow 06-26-2012 10:36 AM

thanks, mate! yeah, without a pressure pot it's basically like compensating for a broken arm.
