Have you tried to cast shoulders, or other ball joints?
you mean the actual shoulders and hinges and ball joints like the necks or MU hips? so far only cut out the ghostrider body type hinged ball neck peg and the wrecker neck peg and cast em to update the older figures with the hinged necks. planning on sculpting over the cable shoulders for super skrull and thinking i may try casting em for durability but dunno yet.

as for the super skrull bits, prolly won't be selling any casts unless i can streamline the process =D |
Heck, I'd take some of your reject casts! Too good man.
Skill is simply amazing you have a new fan and possibly a new student and customer lol
hahaha many thanks, gunzilla :D hope i can help out in the future.
bro how do you do translucent cast's, so bad ass! i need to learn how to cast, awesome work like always brosky!
thanks dude. pretty much just molding objects with silicone rubber and using some kind of clear resin. had been using this castincraft version but it requires a ton of work to make sure the molds don't have bubbles in em as well as heat so they don't come out tacky. best bet is to use a pressure pot to get rid of bubbles. planning on updating my tools and materials over the summer so i can get back into full on casting and customizing by the time SDCC is over.
basically learned by scouring youtube videos and various online tutorials over about a year or so before buying various products. from there it was just a ridiculous amount of trial and error. worked out since i also need to level up my sculpting skills and being able to cast those original parts is a good motivator. |
Hasbros gonna send people to your house. Bad people
Ever thought of putting out some tips/tricks to casting? Sounds like you did a TON of trial and error, and came out with the best ways to actually pull it off in the end.
If MU stops coming out, casting might be our only hope... |
honestly, a lot of my trial and error had to do with the semi incompatible materials i used in addition to not having a pressure pot. i call it perseverance in the face of a small budget. if anyone is seriously thinking about getting into casting, try researching and getting a pressure pot on top of silicone rubbers and resins to get the job done faster and more accurately. i've yet to get or make one and i'm pretty sure it makes a serious difference.
Great customs! I too have been casting with castin craft resin. Definitely need a pressure pot. If only I hadn't been laid off from my job. I could use the one there. keep the bad assery coming!
thanks, mate! yeah, without a pressure pot it's basically like compensating for a broken arm.
