I'm actually just purchasing the episodes for avengers EMH and ultimate Spiderman on PS store because I don't care to pay for the entire cable package from time Warner cable in my area. I don't watch enough regular TV to justify it so just getting these episodes is way cheaper on me at the moment. I'm too impatient to wait for DVD or Netflix.

I'd forgotten about it until just now, as the whole thing went out of mind as a bunch of tornados tore through my area directly after I saw the show.

But the daydream scenes? What they actually reminded me of, is that Ultimate Spiderman seems to be trying to catch the Teen Titans audiance, or at least trying to fill that same niche.
That's it exactly. Only problem is, Teen Titans did that kind of stuff really well (while balancing extremely silly, and movingly serious all at the same time), and Ultimate Spiderman just isn't the kind of series that works with.

i was suprised when i enjoy a cartoon in ages i like the avengers EMH no change there but this has gotten more intresting as well as i think a bit funny, and i was amazed that it was writtern by paul dini ( well known for batman the animated series and the two marvelous video games batman arkham asylum and arkham city :D )

Dude, sorry to hear about the tornadoes. I hope all is well with you and yours as well as close friends.

As for the teen titans correlation, I can see that now. I hadn't noticed it while watching but you're right, TT's definitely balanced it better...although it's probably an unfair comparison for me to measure since I'm measuring full seasons against only first two episodes between the two.

I don't hate the cartoon and look forward to watching the episodes where he interacts with other adult avengers like cap and iron man, and I'm hoping we see the Ultimate Green Goblin eventually.

Unfortunately, one of my favorite marvel characters, Iron Fist, has been taken down a notch for me after my gf called out that this cartoon turned him into a teen hippie. Dammit! Lol

Crazy Jetty 04-04-2012 03:34 PM

Yeah, I'm all right, so's my family. Although they had much closer calls than I did. All I got was some rain and hail. Thanks for the concern.

Apparently one of the local news videos showing one of the funnels hurling trailers 400' in the air ended up getting put up on CNN.com.

Have to agree with you there...but I guess they're making it more kid friendly or something.

Spectacular Spider-Man BLEW AWAY the 90's cartoon. 90's cartoon (both Spider-Man and X-Men) had horribly inconsistent animation. Peter was bulkier than Eddie Brock, MJ's chin was freakish, and the pacing was horrible. Only two good things came out of the 90's Spider-Man cartoon: Edward Asner's J. Jonah Jameson (Who obviously influenced Sam Raimi's casting of J.K. Simmons) and the much more streamlined origin of Venom.

OOOOOO my biggest peeve in the world... adult nerds who get pissy because a comic or toy franchise is being marketed to kids. Transformers boards are FULL of them. What is wrong with making a kids friendly Spider-Man? He's a comicbook character for christsakes! I fully endorse and LOVE the fact that he's not the angsty, whiny, self-admonishing, and obnoxious character they turned him into during the late 1990's and into the 20xx's. I LOVE the 4th dimension breaks. Spider-Man SHOULD be quippy, and indulging. Part of Spider-Man's fighting style, ever since the 60's, was running his mouth to annoy adversaries and to bring the reader in. Deadpool stole that from Spider-Man and upped the ante a bit, but Spider-Man was the original funnyman of Marvel, and it's nice to see that side of Spidey for a change, rather than constantly being bombarded with "Oh, woe is me coz I'm poor Peter" that was beat into our heads with the live films, 90's cartoon, and a lesser extent, "Spectacular Spider-Man".

Ultimate Spider-Man appears to me to take less from Spectacular and the 90's cartoon, and instead get it's inspiration from the fantastic 80's "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" cartoon. Not just because of the SHIELD teamups, but the overall direction they took with Spider-Man as a character. Obviously, I base this on only two cartoons, and a lot can happen in a series (Transformers Prime is and example of that.. hated the pilot, but LOVE the series now), but I am more than willing to place my faith in Marvel Animation, because they haven't failed me yet.

I heard a rumor that Josh will be voicing Peter Parker's overweight yet more responsible step brother in an upcomming episode.

snake5289 04-08-2012 09:45 AM

Watched like half the episode this morning and thought it was pretty good. Loved the tiny Doombot's high-pitched voice. I've got all 3 episodes on the DVR I just haven't gotten around to watching them yet. Not too stoked on Spidey's teammates other than Power Man and Iron Fist though.

Crazy Jetty 04-08-2012 04:42 PM

Three eps in, and this series is starting to grate on me.
I have no problem with the humor, but they seriously need to temper the type of humor they're using. The scrubs/Teen Titans/Family Guy style outtakes are over the top and out of hand.
Not saying they have no place in the series, but just that they need to be scaled back and balanced out some more with better character developement.
Like I said earlier, Titans balanced it so much better. One episode could have you laughing with something silly, and then really feeling for the character within three minutes. The actual Ultimate Spiderman comic balanced the comedy and drama really well, too.
But this, I still really don't feel anything for the characters.

I will say, after two episodes, I want to brutally kill Nova. Granted I've never been interested in Nova, Powerman, or Ironfist before, but I *really* can't stand this version of Nova. Not winning me over on Powerman or Ironfist, either. I have no opinion yet on the tiger ninka chick.

bmorr 04-08-2012 04:45 PM

these characters are becoming pretty annoying

jjk1120 04-08-2012 06:02 PM

Why does it seem like everytime something is deemed "kid friendly" its also moronic and over the top. 3 episodes in and this show is really turning me off. Is this what appeals to kids today? Because if it is, I'm glad I grew up in a different generation.
This show has such potential. The animation is beautiful and the fight scenes are great. But these characters are terrible and have gotten worse with each episode. Does Avengers: EMH not appeal to kids because its not idiotic? Because I love the hell outta that show. And I guess kids didn't like Wolverine and the X-Men or Spectacular Spiderman either.
Such great animation wasted on this. I guess I was expecting too much on something based off the Ultimates, anyway.

CLASSIFIED 04-08-2012 06:04 PM

I can't stand how the show isn't exactly like the comic book. WTF Hasblow!

LORD MARVEL 04-08-2012 09:30 PM

?

What does Hasbro have to do with this cartoon? Or were you being sarcastic? You know I can't tell without emoticons.

It has nothing to do with it, and he knows it. He's being a troll. Went on a sizable spree of simular trollish comments across the forum tonight. Put him on ignore like me, and I guarentee the board will will be a lot more pleasent.

rustyrob 04-16-2012 08:07 PM

Like the series but hate Nova

TheSymbiote 04-16-2012 08:56 PM

We're not too fond of the new series, its too childish. We understand that Spider-Man is childish but still, we liked all the other previous cartoons but this one is just meh.
The only thing we like about it is Agent Phil Coulson lol
and if they !@#$ up Venom or any other Symbiote..................TANTRUMS SHALL BE THROWN!

Greenskar 04-16-2012 09:37 PM

The doom episode was decent, new take on venom was meh for me but I appreciated that flash Thompson had the Symbiote for a bit.

Completely agree on Sam Alexander Nova. Worst character I've seen in a while. Douchebags like that would have never made it into the Nova Corps I read about...but whatever.

I also am not liking hippie Iron Fist. I honestly feel like the show would be much better without the other four, just my opinion. I still want to see him spar against Iron Man though.

Crazy Jetty 04-16-2012 09:55 PM

Very much agreed on Nova and Ironfist.
I have no real issues with Powerman, or White Tiger. Howevere, they also do not add anything, or endear me to them.
These four characetrs are not any that I would have anything to do with in any comic series. Never had any fondness for Luke Cage, or Ironfist. Never was interested in Nova before. And I'd never heard of White Tiger before this. So all four are a very low point that serve no purpose. Their presence only destracts my interest.

I think the series would be a lot stronger if they'd stuck closer to the real Ultimate Spiderman, and left the "Avengers in Training" angle alone, and adapted Young Avengers for that, instead.

snake5289 04-16-2012 11:04 PM

Here here.

Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying the show so far (the Doom episode being my favorite) I'd enjoy it a lot more without the other heroes. It IS a Spider-Man cartoon after all and Spidey's pretty much always been a loner. Now if they were guest stars I think I'd be fine with that.

What about Spidey and his amazing friends?

Still that was a fun show, I like new guest characters every week. I wish they'd do something like that.

Haha ya I really wish they would do a regular comic book version of Nick Fury.

Agree with you there Jetty, as much as I am a Marvel man, TT is better than this show.

I'm glad this is kid friendly, and yes I agree with you on the tfw boards, they get way to into it being that TF is for kids. Although Prime does seem to be more darker than Spiderman.
Honestly they should have called this show Spiderman and his Amazing friends, that's the vibe I get from this show.

Indeed.

Alienweirdo 04-18-2012 01:43 AM

Well I finally got around to watching the first three episodes. At first I thought it wasn't bad, although I found (and still do) Peter's voice highly irritating, and the barrage of cutaways makes Family Guy more like Game of Thrones in comparison. But I love the animation and the fight scenes. The style is nice as well. I did like his reaction to the Spider-cycle, and I hope that's the last we'll see of that.

However. I genuinely dislike the inclusion of the other four 'kids'. Like the general consensus, I find Luke Cage dull, no idea who White Tiger is, Iron Fist is weird and Nova is annoying. I would have been more impressed if they included Iceman, Firestar, Human Torch, Kitty Pride and so forth. The dialogue is still ropey, and the moments where he 'freeze frames' takes you out of the moment and I find ruins it.

I want to like it, but I don't at the moment. On some levels I find it offensive as Spectacular was cancelled for this, and it puts out that the makers think that all children are stupid and will watch anything with bright colours and silly characters. Instead of investing in something tried and tested and is known to be popular with kids and adults, they throw it away and go for something on the other end of the spectrum. SpectacularSM will leave a lasting legacy as the greatest Spider-man cartoon produced, because of it's engaging story arcs and mature dialogue balanced with the right amount of humour. This on the other hand, well we'll have to see.

Exodus 04-18-2012 09:47 AM

Heck ya Spectacular SM is way better than this version of USM, heck even the MTV Spider-Man was better. I like the art in USM but story and the way they tell it, like everyone says...
