You know what they say about boys with their Big S... they're just trying to over compensate for something... ~_^

(Not so clever "If you know what I mean" joke based on DCD's limited articulation)

Also, I got a news credit?!? Wow!

Bigger shield. The DCD Superman looks sooo much better than the Mattel version.

DCSH Superman & Cyborg Superman has the shield scale just right, IMO.

So one would wonder why they wouldn't use that same concept on all the Superman figures? I have 1 DC Universe Superman figure and thats the DCSH version and Mattle still screwed up on him not being a True Superman Blue and bright Red Cape.

Crazy Jetty 03-11-2012 06:43 PM

Not just mattel, but there is a trend amongst a lot of toymakers, Hasbro included, for going towards darker colors.
Transformers, MU, and DCUC all seem to suffer from this.
The logic is to be more "realistic," or some stuff. Because bright colors are too cartoony, or something. Total BS, and IMO, it's only hurt the transformers, and makes superhero toys a lot more bland looking.

That said, while the smaller S shields are slightly vexing, it's not a dealbreaker for me. And the blues Mattel uses are completely fine. They're still bright and vivid, and he still stands out dramatically. It's not like they're making him Navy Blue.

Maybe but those are Transformers. There is a reason why there is a color named Superman Blue/Red.

You're the first person I've ever heard to say there's an actual color named after Superman.
I don't honestly understand what you're so twisted up over. He's a slightly darker shade of blue, and has an very bright shade of red. So what if he's not powder/sky blue?
He's still bright, vivid, and reeks of Superman.
Like I said, it's not like they're coloring him Indigo or Navy. If he were as dark as the blue used on Black Hand, I'd totally get it, then.

But like I said, all over, MU and DCUC both tend to go for slightly darker or matte colors. Superman's hardly unique.

i dont see any reason for going with superboy prime over bman beyond he is much more well known

Really? Huh. Just checked every Microsoft office color option available to me and nope nothing in Superman blue/red. Excuse me while I write hate mail to Microsoft. This is a travesty.

Symmetry. There's already two Batman toys in the line-up. Plus, Superboy Prime looks like Superman wearing cool armor. That would have more kid appeal visually than Terry McGuinness.
Also, Batman Beyond was always pretty much filler who's sole purpose was to get the name "Batman" in the first wave. All he was, was a straight reissue. Being a straight reissue is likely why they chose to go with Red Robin, instead of him.

So, had they used Terry instead of Superboy Prime, then the wave layout would have been Superman/Batman/Batman/Batman. May as well be another Batman Legacy wave.

The Batman Beyond figure would have disappeared off of shelves as soon as they were released. I have a maskless one, and even that version of him was a complete pain in the ass to find. The Mattel people dropped the ball. Big time.

Ravenxl7 03-11-2012 08:29 PM

I'm really starting to regret getting into Mattel stuff..The more and more I deal with them..the more I realize they suck...:(

While I see your point, my sadness in this decision derives from the ridiculous price the old DCUC Batman beyond is selling for online and at LCS and I passed him up months ago when i did see him at retail.

This is what happens when you weren't planning to collect any 6" figures. I blame the recent ML return. Damn Hasbro making me want more expensive plastic crack :(

I must state here that I was looking at this from Mattel's Point of View, not from mine.
From their perspective I believe they'd have seen Beyond as just a filler (One that would make many fans, myself included happy) to be able to use the Batman name.
The way I see it, if it weren't a filler in their eyes, then they would have probably given him a whole new mold. Thinner (And hopefully double jointed elbows/knees), and with his wings.

I don't have the original, and was looking forward to this one, for all the reasons you guys were. So it was one of the preorders I had that was cancelled.

actually if you've ever dealt with Paint colors look different when they Dry. As for Mattycollector.com they are going to start selling wave 20 directly Thurday and people are asking for an official statement. As I said I doubt BBTS on this one I mean honestly until I hear from Mattel I wont believe it but I will admit Mattel is busy.

thats why I posted it this Thursday they will be out from them :D. it'll be 2 months for my Walmart

malcontentman 03-12-2012 10:31 PM

I usually love Universe Classics, but I am not excited about the Mattel 52s. Some look kind of goofey. DC Direct's just look soooo much better. The only issue of course is poseabilty. They are just little statues with a little articulation.

My Walmarts are already clearancing the line. The furthest they got at my stores was wave 18.

Fortunately one of my Target stores had wave 20.

And Matty raised it's prices to $18 each.

JoeB51K 03-13-2012 11:08 AM

Man, I was looking forward to that Larfleeze so much... DCUC Lanters are my favorite.

Rattrap Primal 03-14-2012 09:35 AM

maybe they'll release all of the New 52 JL in the All Star Line (if it lasts long) or they'll just do a line for the reboot stuff

thechris 03-15-2012 08:11 AM

The only one I care about thus far with this revamp is Superboy Prime and Red Robin.

Crazy Jetty 03-15-2012 01:58 PM

Withdraaaaaawls!
I'm going into withdrawls! Working with my Lantern display, putting new figure stands under them all, and it just struck me that Larfleez won't be joining them! I wanna cry now!
