I'm not going to defend any personal comments people directed towards Bitman, but the hostility is something he obviously brought on himself by claiming knowledge of something he obviously dont know as any kind of fact and then not clarifying where you heard this.

Claiming "I have a source" or "I heard" this or that online with no explanation is equal to saying "I'm making shit up to troll you guys".
Bitman should go over to Hisstank and claim "you heard" the movie line of figures was cancelled and he'll get much the same reaction.

If it was just poor communication on his part, now is the time to clarify- he'll find people here pretty forgiving about that sort of stuff.

...? Haha, sorry, was that directed to me or did you misquote? Because I didn't make any claims.

Jason Abbadon 03-31-2012 11:05 PM

Directed at that bitman poster, but in reply to your post-
I was doing ten things at once while posting and got you two confused, sorry there! NO hostility to you, man, though I hardly think anyone "sodomized" the guy for calling him out- extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

Still the entire thread from his first post to the title smacks of pure trolling...and while harsh, I think the reaction is understandible.
It shows how people care about the line and the fun we have discussng it.

And NO, Hasbro is not likely to cancel the line anytime soon- in my area at least, it's sells very well (comic packs notwithstanding).

Hopefully OP will save us all a bunch of time and let us know who this "company in question" is so we don't ever order from them

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think he was trying to get a rise out of anyone. Just sounds like someone told him something stupid and he wanted to make sure it wasn't true. Then everyone else kind of went on a witchhunt, he got defensive and people continued to attack him even after he stopped posting ages ago probably kind of scared off by the responses he got. I'm just saying I doubt he made his post hoping to piss people off. Just sounds like he was ill-informed. It's fine to correct or question someone, but I think it's really bad form to freak out on someone for making a newbie mistake.

Recently I posted on the MOTU Classics Appreciation thread that I heard that they were no longer reissuing figures that were made after August 2011. I don't think I even cited any references. This was something I heard but wasn't 100% sure about and Mattel is known for changing their minds and I could have looked like an ass, but no one ganged up on me. Guess I was lucky that no one was patrolling that thread when I committed my crime. Come on, the guy made a little mistake, but this is getting crazy. Everyone's overreacting big time.

DogFashionDisco 03-31-2012 11:36 PM

I hear you dude.
Drama seems to be the way that the world functions. A new forum member said something that apparently enraged the masses, so at this point it should be brushed off and everyone needs to go back to doing something more productive.

Even if the comic packs were cancelled- no big loss as they're repaints, not new stuff, it would not mean the line is cancelled- from what I've seen and heard other Arkers post, the comic packs are way over-saturated: to the point where the Adam Warlock/Thanos pack is scarce.

Why put put even more comic packs when stores have their fill? If I were ordering for a store that had full pegs of comic packs, I would not be ordering more.

Meanwhile, the carded figs still move briskly here- even repaints like Iron Fist.

Yet, whenever there's a lul it's all "the sky is falling!" from all over- adding that element of supposed insider knowledge was likely the camel that broke the straw back of Arker rumor tolerance.

TRU is notorious for overstock here. We've got 3 full pegs of X-Men First Class Cyclops/Jean Grey. Walmart, on the other hand, is doing a better job of getting the new stuff in and moving product. It's obviously flying off the shelves here as I pointed out in another thread, the Psylocke wave seems to sell fast here as it's gone by the time I get there every time.

Also, since it's now April 1st, I heard that Fin Fang Foom will have pants because he's anatomicly correct and will come with the entire Nextwave team.

I cant tell you where I heard it though, as it's very hush hush and possibly imaginary.

I heard it's also the first BAF in the MU line. I imagine fans everywhere will be pouring into Comic Con to secure the figure that comes with the ever elusive Con exclusive dragon wang part.

Snowflakian 04-01-2012 02:09 AM

It's not canceled, but people need to chill out before they create a cancellation effect.

It's weird I know, but there is a weird habit of crying canceled or fearing cancellation and then it is because of all the buzz around that C word.

So just be patient and hopeful. The 3.75'' market is strong and getting stronger. There's no need to fear yet. This is just a slow year because of the massive Marvel movies and the Legends toyline. They've got both Avengers and Amazing Spider-man in the pipeline besides very much anticipated Legends figures and the MU figures.

FancyPants 04-01-2012 02:36 AM

yeah why the hell is sinister/gambit 50 on ebay? shit is ridiculous

probably because it hasn't hit retail yet. AFAIK only LCS and e-tailers have them

Heroguy70 04-01-2012 03:55 AM

I would be very unhappy if Hasbro cancelled MU. I appreciate that this thread is here because it has set my mind at ease. Some thoughts:

1) According to the NY Times, Hasbro had a difficult 4th quarter, which resulted in them laying off over 100 US employees. As part of their drive to return to profitability, they are going to concentrate on properties they own, such as GI Joe, because they have a higher margin.

2) Legends sales were disappointing, which is probably why Vonner got the axe. I imagine this line will be the first victim of any future cutbacks. Since MU is the same scale as GI Joe, it's likely to stay around for many years to come. Legends is the line that doesn't make sense from Hasbro's perspective.

3) The recent spate of revision waves for MU at retail probably represents the company's efforts to increase interest by making past figures (the ones with less overhead built into them) available to new customers (given the upswing the economy has taken lately, this makes sense). It could also represent a change in marketing strategy for the line. Rather than releasing several waves a year of characters few in the general public recognize, the line is likely to emphasize more popular characters (look for more tie-ins with the cartoons and fewer chase figures).

4) The Avengers movie has yet to be released, so sales of those figures probably hasn't peaked yet. MU could cannibalize this line, so keeping new releases off the shelves makes sense.

5) Marvel wants Hasbro to continue making these figures. Hasbro might be angling to get a renegotiated price on the licensing.

6) The real key here is whether the new MU stock sits on store shelves or it moves. If it moves, then the line will be safe.

Heroguy70 04-01-2012 04:10 AM

The nice thing about all these revision waves is that it's driving down the prices on ebay... it's almost as if Hasbro wants to take that money instead of allowing scalpers to do it.

2. I know that Legends is why Vonner has explained that her got the boot, but that makes no sense. Seriously, the line hasn't been out that long. The first BAF wasn't nearly as compelling as the second , which tied into the CA movie. Around here, these have sold awfully well. It seems like they fired him just a week or so after these got on the pegs here. What did Hasbro expect? More likely, he had made waves along the way and some exec decided that he was replaceable.

3. There is nothing new about these revision waves in terms of concept. MU has often brought back older figures to give new collectors an opportunity to catch up. While annoying if you are looking for new stuff, it has been remarkably smart and something Hasbro's other action figure lines ought to consider from time to time. Nothing new here.

It definitely moves at stores around here.
The only ones that don't are the X-Men First Class comic packs. A lot of that I think has to do with the price hike though. When a comic pack costs more than two single carded figures, it's just less likely to move. The comic packs just don't make financial sense to the customers anymore, though the occasional must have figure keeps them moving. (Silver Samurai, Quicksilver-wonderman, sinister-gambit, warlock, ant-man.)

Legends seems to have a few figures sit for long amounts of time from each wave. The first few shipments around here sold out, but now I'm starting to see a few peg warmers sit. Sadly none of which is the blue ghost rider. T_T

Definitely a good point about the movie-lines and feeding into MU. It is a great way to push more figures out without having to always make a new mold and recoup more costs on existing molds.

We'll see more MU coming, but probably not until the summer really kicks off. Right now it's mostly movie-hype and pushing legends, but the MU scale is too much perfection for reuse across multiple brands if needed. Plus it doesn't hurt that many of them can be reused again later for Marvel Movies and vice-versa.

on the other hand my spending on them has slowed. hopefully it wont lead me to buying the more expensive pieces i need.

Play it off all you want. Your reaction says a lot about the way you see the world I'd say. If you want to come to the defense of people who don't need it then be my guest, just don't try to pretend you weren't really serious after the fact when no one supports you. I'll stand by the things I've said, thank you very much.
