i think my 1st one was either g1 optimus prime or motu jitsu. kinda far back to remember
|
Awesome thread my first action figure if I can recall correctly was a Leonardo from the Ninja Turtles and i also recall Thunder Punch He-Man, some medic star wars droid and Toxie from Toxic Avengers, I also had Snarf from Thunder Cats and some green demon thing from Brave Star.
|
Hmm... If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was Armada Prowl. In terms of toys though, I had a MASSIVE Thomas collection. I had a ton of die cast toys, a ton of wooden toys and playsets, and light up plastic ones. Not even my following Doctor Who or Transformers collections could beat it's size. Some of it got sold, and the remaining stuff is in the loft.

i think my first figures were hand me down star wars and he-man toys, but i remember some of my first good toys were the generation 2 transformers. I remember receiving the massive missle launcher tank megs under my xmas tree back in 91 or 92( I was 7). I missed out on most if not all the 80s toy craze :(.

Chewbacca back in 79 as a kid
as a collector it was potf storm trooper in 1995, I was so stoked to see the return. Now I collect MU and my son collects all things Star Wars and GI Joe. |
Like Behindthemask said; it was probably some baby toy, but some of my earliest toy memories include a lot of Return of The Jedi stuff (Ewok Village sticks out in my mind) and He-Man stuff.
My first "collectible" toy purchase (when I was an "adult" and realized I liked collecting toys) was Voyager Prime and Megatron from the first TF Bay movie line. |
Damn, you all are making me feel ancient.
Let's see, my first toys: First toy I remember owning: Mego Spider-Man. First SW figure: X-Wing Fighter Luke Skywalker. Second figure was Darth Vader, plastic cape and all. First G1 Transformers: Soundwave & Buzzsaw. First Autobot was Optimus Prime. The rest of my TF firsts would be a long list by itself, so I'll just stop at G1. First Go-Bot: Leader-1 (basic). First G.I.Joe: Snake-Eyes v2 w/Timber First MOTU: He-Man (original) and Beast Man. First Hot Wheels: a yellow IROC Z from the 80's. Don't remember the model year, though. First Thundercats: Tigra First Silverhawks: Buzz-Saw w/Shredator First TMNT: Raphael. First Toy Biz X-Men: Gambit. First ML: Hulk (wave 1). First MU: Spider-Man (classic). First Kre-O: Sentinel Prime ...and that's all I can remember off the top of my head, aside from the aforementioned omissions. |

I cannot remember if I got any fisherprice toys before I got Darth Vader. I distinctly remember my dad buying me Vader from Woolworth's in winter of 1978 and he had to open it for me because I did not know how to . I was 2 years old . I recently gave that figure to a friend. Throughout the years that followed, I had an even mix of Star Wars and Masters of the Universe. One cool thing I got in 1980 was a Mego (8 inch) Superman that my mom found at a yard sale. She sewed together a custom Clark Kent suit to fit over his blue tights. |
Toybiz Storm with the black costume and the light up lightning bolt on the chest. lol
|
my first 3.75 figures were the adventure prople fire fighter set.
|
First action figure I owned was probably Winston Zeddemore from Ghostbusters Series 3. It was the first action figure that was bought from a store for me that I actually "owned". It was neat and you could plug a ghost into his back and it made his head spin and his legs kick up, although I think something was wrong with that functionality because his legs didn't fully kick up. Then I believe I got Two-Face and Riddler from the DC Superheroes toyline from the early 90s that featured the Michael Keaton Batman, Bob the Goon and other guys. Riddler's accessory was... pieces of blank paper!!! To write riddles on. LOL. Then I got another Winston Zeddemore figure from Series 4 where he was in a space suit (Winston was the only one available whenever someone caved in and bought me a Ghostbuster figure), then Krang from TMNT. The one with the brain and the AT-ST looking thing. That was the extent of my toys besides hand me downs.

Luke Skywalker Hoth Gear way back in the 80s.
Since I started collecting Marvel, my first was the 1941 Captain America. |
The first figure(s) I owned was a JC Penny or Sears catalog set of vintage (1977) Star Wars toys. It was a four pack that had Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing gear, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Darth Vader. Awesome!

Geah! well, at least I'm not alone with this, lets see...
First action figure I remember was the Evil Knievel stunt cycle and I have some vague memories of his sky cycle as well. But I loooooved my Bionic Man doll, he had rubber skin you could peel off to see his electronics and a creepy eye that let you see things far away by peering through a hole in the back of his head. And he had a car engine he could curl with his bionic arm button action. I had a Stretch Armstrong which didn't last long enough to enjoy him thanks to the dog but I also got Pulsar, who had a transparent chest with a button on his back that if you pressed it made his heart pump and moved the blood through his rudimentary circulatory system. He also had a face that flipped up so you could see his brain and insert "program disks" into. Creeped my parents out big time. But my super favorites was the Micronauts, I had Biotron and Time Traveler. I fiended for that toy line and later got a green Acroyear that was put through the ringer as I took it everywhere with me. I got a massive Star Wars Christmas in '77 with a full run of the figures and the Death Star playset and after that it was pretty much Star Wars until I saw the ARAH figures for G.I. Joe. I picked up Snake Eyes and couldn't figure out why I should be paying nearly $3 of my money for the Star Wars line when the most action you could get from them made it look like they should be goose stepping to some Nazi hate rally. (and they say kids don't care about articulation) First Transformers was the Ravage and Rumble tape packs and that started a collecting trend with one of my friends (still is actually) and was my first quandary in collecting; Joe or TF? Evil was my first and I guess it's all his fault for making me collect action figures now. I'm not responsible, It's all Evil's doing! |
Aside from Luke and a Storm Trooper from "A New Hope", these Empire Strikes Back figures are the first action figures I ever owned (and still own). As you can see they were very heavily played with.
http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...o/IMG_8964.jpg Shortly thereafter came a slew of He-Man stuff (sadly all gone now), G1 Optimus Prime (still have him around here somewhere), and then a mountain of GI Joes. Since this thread was originally started in the Marvel Discussion section, here's a peek at the first Marvel toys I ever owned: http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...o/IMG_8965.jpg http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...o/IMG_8966.jpg Again, I played the hell out of these toys. I don't remember exactly, but I'm sure Iron Man lost his head because I was trying to find a way to put a Joe figure inside him ala Tony Stark. |
@r3v3n63: I forgot all about the six million dollar man doll! Red jumpsuit, telescope eye. peel back skin. Did you know you could remove the little bionic block sections? Too cool!
I'm so glad to have grown up in the 70s-80s. Maybe not technically the "best" toys, but the heart and soul was off the charts...... Anyone remember the big ROM you could order out of the comics? |
It was probably a Power Ranger lol
|
Early 80s, there were a couple rogue Blackstar and Power Lords bad guys in the mix and the timeline is a little fuzzy, but the first Star Wars fig I had was Walrus Man. First transformer was G1 Wheeljack. First MOTU was Stratos. I then had large collections of nearly every 80s toy: Star Wars, MOTU, Transformers, GI Joe, Muscle, Food Fighters, Army Ants, Thunder Cats, TMNT, Ghost Busters, WWF Wresters, those little figs w/ the Wind vs. Water vs. Earth and you rubbed their belts. Never did have any comic lines like Secret Wars or DC Super Powers, they were harder to find. I didn't have every fig from every line, but I'd say I had about 80% of each of them.

Still have that batman belt is broken but have the accessories and toy.

I'll jump on the 'feel old' bandwagon.
SW: I think Snaggletooth. Don't recall what the first brand new one was. Something from Empire I think, maybe Han Bespin. Lots and lots of Star Wars memories! Last new SW fig I bought; Lando in Jabba's guard disguise. Last I recall seeing on pegs; Ree-Yees. MotU: Don't recall, ended up with lots. TF's: Don't recall, ended up with lots. Remember getting Arialbots for Christmas. Gobots: Don't recall. I think a little blue and white helicopter. GI Joe (Action Force in the UK): Destro, Baroness, Torpedo and Blowtorch. Ended up with loads, lots of GI Joe memories! Last I remember buying; Road Pig. Thundercats: Only ever owned Lion-O. Secret Wars: Only ever owned Wolverine. Super Powers: Only ever owned Superman, Batman and Robin. Zoids: Don't recall, ended up with loads. Remember getting Zrk for my B'day, and buying some red zoids at a local toyshop. Also owned doll sized Batman, Robin and Spiderman, as well as a magnetic Hulk figure. |
My first? Probably the jumbo decently articulated spiderman toy from the 90's. I was six when I had it, before that was a bunch of matchbox cars, and a playset. Also had broken animated batman and robin kid pool.

I used to love taking out his bionics and placing them back in as if I was one of the doctors from the beginning of the show making this frankenborg man to go and beat the hell out of Evil Knievel. I remember ROM coming out about the same time as that frigg'n Alien "Big Chap" figure (79' ish?) ROM has come, evil is on the run! If I remember correctly the guy who designed ROM also did the Milton Bradly Star Bird ship. I'll have to look that up though. Tangent: I saw Alien in the movie theater when it was released, (so I was about 7,) I was a huge fiend for anything sci-fi but at the time didn't even conceive that horror and science fiction could be put together, they were mutually exclusive ideas that I didn't even think you could mash into one concept. So after bugging my parents to take me to go see the new "space movie" (which I was totally traumatized by) I remember going into a Toys R Us and my dad found an Alien fig out of its box (same isle that had all the big Shogun Warriors, Rodan and that weird vampire bat that you could see it's insides were in) and chased me down the isle with that thing hitting the button on the back of its phallic head making it's wee mouth pop in and out. Scarred the crap out of me. Regardless... Yeah, there was something real cool about the mid to late 70's, looking back at it you could see the early beginnings of what would become a golden age of action figures (80's) and it was neat to realize that, even if only a consumer, you were part of it. 76 to about 86 was a killer time to be a kid. I know everyone has their magic childhood time and that was it for me; Micronauts, Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers and the whole giant robot craze that went along with it. |
When you get to my age, remember your first figure as a kid is next to impossible. I can remember toys I had when I was young, but not the first one.
The first thing that got me into collecting as an adult was the 97 SW stuff. My buddy still had a bunch of the original stuff that he brought out of storage and displayed in his room. I thought it looked awesome so off I went collecting that stuff and displaying. My first was Luke and Vader ANH and first Vehicle was a TIE fighter. Then years later, my other buddy introduced me to Beast Wars. I was with him when he was looking for some stuff at TRU and I fell in love with this... http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-...Primal_Box.jpg From then on I started collecting BW, BM, RID. Then eBay came out and I started collecting the toys from my youth with G1. The first G1 I got as an adult was, of course, Prime. |

So, my very first action figure was this one. Many time after that, I looked for the Hulk, and I restored the paint of my Spiderman, and here they are: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/550...yspiderman.jpg |
