The worst part is, I sold off my Flash Rogues just before the line was reported canned. |

Yeah, I don't care what anyone says, it's DC Comics, so they don't get the excuse of being a smaller company.

Smaller company was how they were describing themselves in the video. Just to be clear the money DC Entertainment makes off of toys comes from Mattel, not DC Collectibles. Mattel holds the master license for DC toys and their products are in most physical retail stores across the country while DC Collectibles is limited to comic shops. While both companies have an even chance at online stores like Amazon or BBTS, the sales numbers for Mattel's DC toys will always dwarf the sales numbers for DC Collectibles at physical retail stores. After all, there's a Walmart in just about every town whereas a comic shop will be harder to find. You can turn your nose up at all of the role playing masks and weapons, the cheap basic figures, the Wonder Woman Barbie dolls, or even the DC Multiverse figures. But they're easy for parents to buy and bring in the money for DC. Since DC Collectibles has a limited market, they have to make sure that what they produce sells.
One other thing that needs to be cleared up is the money. DC Collectibles is a part of DC Entertainment. All of the money DCE makes from their different divisions (movies, tv, comics, toys) is distributed throughout the company. It's not in some big pot for any manager to help themselves to. While they can move funds to where they are needed, each division is expected to support itself. This means DC Collectibles is largely responsible for making sound decisions that will result in profits. If DC Entertainment felt that they were losing too much money on DCC, they could shut down that part of the business. Mattel holds the master toy license so it's not like they are depriving fans of DC figures. |

DCC have said as much in several interviews at SDCC and elsewhere. Pixel Dan and ShartimusPrime would be good ones to look up. They sell primarily to collectibles and online stores, not large retailers. They produce in small quantities as a result, so prices are higher per figure. They use demand from the retailers in the form of pre-orders to gauge demand.
The stuff about how businesses operated is literally just how they operate, you don't need to be in DC to know that a subsidiary has to make money to justify its existence. |
I never really had a chance to get into this line which is disappointing in a sense but seeing how the future of it is going I am happy I didn't.
I ordered the justice league 7 pack around Christmas off of Amazon and got some KO. It really demotivated me for the line and I never got a chance to pick it back up before they cancelled. I do have Martian Manhunter and one of my favorites in my collection, Darkseid. I am completely happy with those as Darkseid is one of my favorite figures that I own. I will probably still fill out the theme with other figures, but it is a disappointment that the line failed. |
Be warned: Supergirl now has Twizzler-vision!

Icons Supergirl was solicited with heat vision eyes, so it shouldn't be a surprise.
|
Yeah, but I mean the twizzler vision.
|
Saw it in person, looks pretty great.

Saw Supergirl today. Really strange that the heat vision rays are removable. The alternate head looks like someone burned holes into her face where her eyes used to be. It looks like a japanese ghost story head from the Ring or Grudge or something.
Over all the figure looks really great. I felt the Supersons set looked kinda small, but had a ton of extras in the box. Like a dozen hands and stuff. |
A shame that DCC has axed this line as they do look like great figures.

Sad sad sad. I'm still gutted about Shazam and the way they decided to more or less can the line. Supergirl's bleeding eye accessory is bizarre.

went to pick up Supergirl yesterday...
had her in hand but then was looking at this other recent release supergirl (non-icons...i forget which one)..and she actually looked cooler to me. I stared at the both of them trying to make a decision...then decided i don't need either. |
Saw the Doomsday/Superman 2 pack in my LCS today, looks really nice and the packaging has an outer box which when removed reveals a very cool "destroyed city" backdrop for the figs
Is this the last Icons set or are any more due out? |
