Are you calling this a coincidence of price, have I been ripped off, is that Superboy figure excessively rare and you got a really good deal? I'm afraid I don't know much about this statement or DC figure collecting in general, maybe I'll learn something here.

CMIII 07-26-2014 03:18 AM

DC All Star figures were one wave and some areas never saw them

Iceman 07-26-2014 05:13 AM

BBTS still has the Superboy Prime for like $16.

CMIII 07-26-2014 09:31 AM

BBTS lost me when they didn't do Ice. I actually paid $14 but $4 shipping

CMIII 07-26-2014 08:08 PM

Ok how long till the 6 inch Gal Gadot Wonder Woman appears?????

Unless Mattel either has a change of heart concerning 6inch figures at retail, or just out and out says they're done with it and let NECA or DCC pick up the rights, I doubt there's gonna be one.

Dr Kain 07-26-2014 10:19 PM

I originally planned to do this on Batman Day, but I got lazy.

Technically DCC already has the rights

CMIII 07-28-2014 06:27 PM

Before a lot of people start freaking out Doomsday was not listed on the SDCC release list but it's probably a Mistake. You know how great Mattel's Marketing and P/R is (Batzarro being listed as scheduled for 2014)

Dr Kain 07-28-2014 09:42 PM

It could go either way. Scott claims Doomsday will be on sale, at least for the early access people. We'll see. I just hope the dude I bought it from is legit.

DCC only makes toys for direct market sales, so comparing mass retail products to DCC stuff is not exactly fair. That's like asking 12" G.I.Joe figures to look like Sideshow figures.

Having said that, I do believe Mattel's doing a great job so far with their Multiverse offerings. Their 6" series? Unless you're into Total Heroes (nothing wrong with that), not so much.

The plastic production molds are usually thrown out after a few production runs simply because they get worn out. Now if you're suggesting Mattel simply throws out the steel molds that are used to make the production molds, I highly doubt that.

The only times I've heard of a company intentionally destroying the steel molds are when they are too old to be of any use (i.e. worn out), or when they are used for an exclusive that will never be produced again.

And I get that SP enthusiasts would want the S on the cape, but 1) it always seemed stupid to me. I don't see Batman with his logo on his cape! and 2) if I get him, I'm not gonna have him with his back out in my display, so I'm alright with it. Plus, for the people who keep these MIB, you're never gonna see his back anyways!

The Mattycollector toys that showed up at Big Lots was a one-time event, according to Mattel. They had made too many extras (customer service toys, non-subscriber sales, etc.) for certain subscription-based items and wanted to off-load them fast.

Dr Kain 07-29-2014 06:18 AM

So have the Watchmen stuff shown up at Big Lots?

En Sabah Nerd 07-29-2014 03:18 PM

I don't read DC anymore (only used to read Batman) except for Vertigo comics. And even then all I read is Fables, has DCC ever suggested that they could make some stuff for Fables? They made Watchmen stuff (I think that was DCC, right?) and with the recent The Wolf Among Us game there could be a small market for it. Does anyone else here care about Fables, or would DCC?

They can, and have done, stuff based on the Vertigo titles. They've done a Sandman statue, have an iZombie statue coming out, and they did a set of bookends for Fables. Though I'm not sure if they'll ever do figures.

BTW, isn't Fables ending?

TheBlueMarvel 07-29-2014 05:03 PM

Quick question for whomever has an answer: is Mattycollector.com selling the Conner Kent figure yet?

I have a "test" (not really sure what it is) copy that I bought from eBay, but the waist is super-glued (I think) and will not budge. I planned to sell it for fodder (along with a bunch other flawed or broken figs both DCUC and Legends), but I want to secure a mint fig first.....

Anyone know anything?

En Sabah Nerd 07-29-2014 05:08 PM

Yes, they're ending Fables, not a "you're cancelled" call, but Bill Willingham is ending it story-wise and on his own terms. I've loved Fables and count it as among my favorite comics ever, so I'm glad it will have an ending and not carry on indefinitely to the point of meandering in story. Kind of like The Maxx, I regard it as one of my favorites partly because it was short and well done (and I don't count IDW's new take on The Maxx, it ended when it ended with Image to me).

Sort of give me an idea of how the base figure's sculpt will mesh with the other figures I have, or another release of their sculpt. I've got Mattel's new 52 Batgirl, Movie Masters Bane and John Blake, and the Batman Legacy figures of first appearance Catwoman and Super Powers Mr. Freeze.

Still wondering if anyone would be willing/capable of taking a comparison photo for me. Just need a shot of one of the Total Heroes Batman figures next to one of the above mentioned figures.

I've heard good things about the series, but haven't had a chance to get into it yet. I still have one more volume of iZombie to go, and Fables will probably be the next Vertigo title I read. It's good to know it'll be ending on the creator's own terms.

No we all know they do not throw out the Steel Molds as many times as they've used them on different figures

Also Doomsday has been listed on sale next Monday (when it will sell out) or Tuesday (if not)

IIRC, Watchmen figures were not part of any subscription line. Even if it was, going by Mattel's statement regarding the MOTU & GB figures then it stands to reason that Mattel did not make enough Watchmen figures to warrant similar actions.

Somewhat backwards logic, but correct nonetheless.

(While not very cost-effective, it is entirely possible for a toy company to make new steel molds for previously-released figures.)

Dr Kain 07-30-2014 09:41 PM

My Doomsday has shipped. YAY!!

CMIII 07-31-2014 05:06 AM

considering we bought him from the same guy Kain.. I was going to contact him if it was not listed shipped by this AM... I also picked up Red Tornado for 23$

I'm willing to bet that the production Conner is going to have the same stuck waist. I bought two off of ebay and both had glued/stuck waist, but I was able to fix both. The reason I'm guessing on the main production one being the same is I had the same problem with the Ice figure that I bought off ebay, and the one that I bought from Matty Collector was stuck the same way.
