Its reissues of MCU Black Panther Shuri Nakia and Killmonger in his BP suit.

No word on Okoye and MBaku yet who were also rumored for this wave too

^^^I'm assuming these will also be at the $24.99 price point? Good for those who missed them, but even so, if the price hike hits these and they have no BAF part, it feels greedy. Just my take. Again, I know some of these have gotten hard to find, so it's good for that I suppose.

I just want an Okoye non BAF so this wave does nothing for me as I already have that Panther and Shuri

"Legacy?" It's been five years, that's not much of a legacy. However, I guess it's enough time to make a thinly veiled attempt to cash in on what's left of Chadwick's legacy in film.

Based on the photos, the color redraft makes it seem as though Chadwick and Michael's likenesses have been reworked in a manner that makes them less appealing.

Captain Nash 04-28-2022 09:48 AM

I guess the Black Panther Legacy figures are great for those that missed them or wanted reworks in some way, but it's just bottling up the same old rehashes in brand new packaging for me personally.

TheBlueMarvel 04-28-2022 10:08 AM

I've been pretty vociferous about my disdain for lazy rehashes throughout the years, but collectors have steadily requested them. Enjoy your revisits that will cost you more now at retail than they did initially.

So I guess the Okoye will be a Walmart or Walgreens exclusive.

If Black Panther is a Walmart Exclusive already. If there is an Okoye maybe amazon exclusive.

For sure. And it doesn't help any that it seems like there's more re-hashes than actually brand spankin' new product coming out lately.

We've talked about other reasons for waning interest in the line for the longtime collectors, but this is honestly the biggest issue. There are a few characters that of course are going need to be regularly re-tooled or straight up releases yearly, it's not the Wolverines, Spider-Man or Iron Man type characters I have this issue with.

It's the sheer amount of B and C listers getting rolled out for the third or fourth time in as many years, if not more than that, that's really killing my interest here.

StuartGreen2019 04-28-2022 12:45 PM

Wouldn't it have made more sense to do a Marvel Legends Legacy wave based on 'Marvel's The Avengers' instead, since this is its 10th anniversary year? Then again, it's also the 60th anniversary year of Ant-Man, Hulk, Spider-Man and Thor, and only half of them are getting waves this year. If Thor's movie and toyline had been delayed, I highly doubt that we even would've gotten anything for Thor this year. At this rate, I'd be surprised if Hasbro even did make anniversary figures for milestones like the 30th anniversary of "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" and the 40th anniversary of "Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars" in 2024.

Hasbro seems to be dropping the ball on everything from anniversaries, re-tooling, making popular characters easier to find, and putting out a better variety of figures. In fact, other than upcoming Lizard and the Spinneret/Spidey two-pack, none of the reveals for the 60th anniversary Spidey wave were as good as I was hoping for. Making my favorite Spider-Man foe Doc Ock a mere repaint packed with Silk with the static tentacles in an expensive Amazon two-pack that sold out didn't help either, since Lizard's tail is bendy wire and Ock's tentacles didn't get the upgrade fans have been asking for them to make for four years.

That said, I did like that in Boog_ACBA's interview with the Hasbro team that he did mention Hulk's 60th anniversary year, that he name-dropped characters like Bruce Banner, Doc Samson, Immortal Hulk and then U-Foes towards the end, and Dwight seemed interested in more figures like wanting to make Skaar and Titan.

I sincerely hope 2023 is a much better year for "Marvel Legends" than this year in terms of character selection, but the biggest problem for me now will be how many of them can I actually afford if and when they do come out. I've got dozens of characters left that I want to see made into first-ever figures and re-released sold-separately characters I can actually find with upgrades. Time will tell how many will actually get made and how many can be within my price range.

TheBlueMarvel 04-28-2022 01:09 PM

I don't see the need for Titan. The character just came out. Let people either love it, or hate before name dropping it simply for street cred. Just make the damn UFoes, Zzzax, Madman, Nightmare, Torgo, Darkcrawler, Amphibian, Abomb, or a classic Doc Samson before opting for the latest flash in the pan.

I know there's more to your post and they're some very good thoughts for sure, but this is particularly relevant. This is honestly feeling like the worst year for Marvel Legend since they returned in 2014. Some of that is out of Hasbro's control, and some of it is not. Like you, I hope 2023 will be better because I've mostly written the rest of this year off except for the half dozen figures slated to come out in the fall I'm wanting.

Agreed. I'd add Gargoyle, General Ross, classic Abomination (FINALLY!), Ringmaster, Tyrannus, orange-and-black costume Leader, any fan-requested version of She-Hulk (purple-and-white suit, Fantastic Four suit, etc.), red suit/John Byrne era Doc Samson, and brown jumpsuit Professor Hulk to that list too. The Hulk seriously needs more Marvel Legends love.

Lol that's right buddy! Sorry, I didn't mean to sound salty. I wasn't irritated by anything you wrote, it was the telling of Dwight, or whomever, throwing out the 'latest-greatest' before even determining whether people want the character. There are plenty of valid, long requested names to plug into Hulk slots before going with an unproven commodity.

StuartGreen2019 04-28-2022 01:35 PM

@TheBlueMarvel You have nothing to apologize for, I didn't think you were irritated. And I agree, I'm not that anxious for a Titan figure either and there are plenty of Hulk characters who need figures first. Considering a lot of them aren't Deluxe sized, like Bruce Banner, Doc Samson, Nightmare, Ringmaster, Tyrannus, the Leader, She-Hulk and so on, those could easily take slots in a Hulk wave if Hasbro wanted to make one.

Sataninjaku 04-28-2022 03:15 PM

I know the reviews are pretty lackluster, but I just had a great experience with the site deepdiscount.com.

Managed to score a bunch of C and D tier Legends (Psycho Man, High Evolutionary, Thunderstrike, Frog Man, and Spy Master) for like $36 and some change shipped. The most expensive one was $7.16. They didn't have many figures I'd have gotten excited about or probably even bought at all at full price, but I'm not complaining.

From what I hear though, avoid their pre-orders.

Lol, the cheapskate tried buying a Mezco figure from me last December by offering me less than 1/3 of my starting bid. He kept telling me it was a serious offer even after I said NO a couple of times. Thankfully it sold and I didn't have to deal with that guy's messages for another week.

I get offers from buyers from time to time. They're rarely asking for anything outrageous, just a few bucks lower and it's usually something that isn't popular. It's a win/win for both of us.

Ok, I'm shortening your post a bit so that this isn't another wall of text. But I agree with everything you wrote. The world is changing and Hasbro needs to change how they release Marvel Legends.

In your second post you mentioned them shifting to a hybrid approach. I'm curious to know what you're thinking.

I want to reiterate what others have said and express my whole-hearted agreement with your sentiments! Keep preachin’, man.

Especially agree about lackluster character selection & massive price increases being a disappointing combo. And feeling weirdly let down by the 60th Anniversary Spider-Man offerings, despite some awesome reveals.

Please feel free to edit my comments. Even I get tired when reading my own thoughts.

To answer your question, I don't know what they will do. But they do seem to be trying out some different price levels. RETRO/ARMY BUILD-$22 REGULAR-$25 DELUXE-$30-$55 HASLAB-$300-$400 (maybe a dead end now) 3.75" RETRO-$20 Hasbro MCU Cosplay stuff.. That's a lot to juggle and a lot of fat to trim.

I assume someone is buying 3.75" Retro since we're into 2nd and 3rd waves, but wouldn't be shocked if it went away. I say, stop retro re-trash, both 3.75" and 6" and step up the game and compete with the higher end 1:12 figs. Or, charge more, keep everything the same and prepare to put a wrap on the line because the product, as is, isn't worth $35-$45. Take the time and effort to make things people want to collect.

ThorOdinson123 04-29-2022 04:25 PM

Marvel Legends King Valkyrie. A nice upgrade to the Endgame one. better skin tone and costume. The endgame one's skin was way to dark. Tessa is light skinned in real life

Instead of trying to string together these next few questions/thoughts/observations into coherent paragraphs, I'm just numbering these to get them out there. And this is more questions and how I'm seeing the state of things. I'm not expecting answers or trying mount any sort of counter argument or anything like that.
  1. I don't think standard priced figures will be going anywhere. While I definitely think there is a place for premium figures, I just don't think Hasbro will ever convince people to pay premium prices for lower tier characters like The Hood.
  2. There are too many figures being released. BAF waves have gone from 6 figures per wave to 7 figures per wave. The number of BAF waves each year has also increased. Add on to that fan channel exclusives, store exclusives, retro carded waves, and premium waves. Heck, there are even three premium waves this year with ML 20th, SM 60th, and X-Men The Animated Series. And there could be a fourth if they do another MCU premium wave.
  3. With the price increase, would people be more receptive to smaller wave? A 7 figure BAF wave at $25 per figure is $175 before tax. However a 4 figure wave would only be $100 before tax. Does the change in total price help any make a difference to anyone?
  4. If folks are receptive to smaller assortments, do we even need BAFs anymore? Would eliminating the BAF pieces decrease the price any or at least allow for more accessories? We've seen that Hasbro can sell regular 6" figures with out BAFs as well as larger, deluxe figures on their own.
  5. The premium figures aren't really "premium" anymore. Most of them look like they could be swapped out for a regular release from a BAF wave. For example, the Future Foundation Spider-Man costs more but only comes with a few accessories while the retro carded Ben Reilly Spider-Man costs less and comes with more accessories. The deco on the FF Spidey isn't advanced or more intricate so why is it in a premium line like the Spider-Man 60th Anniversary?
  6. If Hasbro was going to make premium figures that can compete with Figuarts or Mafex, should each figure be given a unique sculpt or will it be more about paint and accessories? Or all three of those?
  7. And finally, the character selection in these recent waves stinks. Going back to the Future Foundation Spider-Man, why is he even in the 60th anniversary wave? From what they've shown, he's not a premium figure worth $28. But that Armani suited Doc Ock that StuartGreen2019 has been asking for would be worth it. That particular look for Ock hasn't done much for me in the past but I would far more interested in a new Doc Ock than FF Spidey. Even looking at the upcoming BAF waves like the Bone Breaker wave, did they have to include Darwin, Vulcan, and Maggot in the same wave? Were those three really more popular than Banshee or the armored Psylocke people have been asking for? And I'm not saying those three should never get figures. I'm just asking why it was necessary to put Darwin, Vulcan, and Maggot in a wave with a skinny Sabretooth and a lackluster Wolverine.

Dr Kain 04-29-2022 08:44 PM

We're four episodes into Hawkeye and this show is great so far. The actress who plays Kate is just as incredible here as she was way back in True Grit a decade ago. And then there is Tony Dalton as Lalo pretending to be Swordmaster, who is great, I just wish he didn't feel like Lalo. The car chase in episode 3 was well shot and a fantastic ride.

I won't comment on Moon Knight yet since we've still got one episode to go but so far of the D+ MCU shows I found Hawkeye to be the most consistently enjoyable. I liked them all but until Hawkeye I feel like each series had pacing issues somewhere along their paths whereas I felt Hawkeye was much more smoothly delivered, I think it's obvious I'm leaving "What If...?" on the sidelines since it was just a bunch of stand-alones until the very end. Hailee Steinfeld was great as Kate, Tony Dalton is just damn fun to watch (as an aside I'm so happy Better Call Saul finally returned), and this was really the first time Jeremy Renner got to sink his teeth into Clint without being overshadowed by fellow Avengers.
