Rest in peace, George Perez.

A huge loss to the industry, and from what I've heard, a loss of a genuinely great person as well. His legacy will live on. We knew his time would most likely be short, and I hope that it was also as painless as possible.

Cancer. Absolutely. Sucks.

tierneygreen 05-07-2022 05:09 PM

Yeah, that hurts. Thank you, George Perez. May you rest in peace.

Kind of, but at least those movies were all direct sequels that are interconnected and are more like one giant movie cut into three. And they go over background information really well in those films, so you don't have to read the Hobbit and the whole Silmarillion in order to follow what's going on.

But if you aren't familiar with say Wandavision because you don't have D+, then you're going to be very confused about how Wanda became a superhero witch and why she suddenly has/had twin boys.

Damn indeed. His work and the media based off of it (the Teen Titans cartoon springs to mind) was a large part of what got me into comics. Perez is, to me, the “mind’s eye” version of so many heroes. Funny, I bought the first appearance of Trigon at my LCS this morning. He will be missed, but he will also be remembered.

George Perez was my favourite artist in any medium, period. I’m so sorry for his wife. RIP.

ariellagunas 05-08-2022 12:10 AM

In a lighter note, if us doomsayers, whom anticipate the end of comic marvel figures, are/am right; I hope Hasbro goes in a blaze of glory with a box set we can only call…

“Random boxset of marvel heroines we NEED to complete teams”
Including, but not limited to:
Marrina
Feral
Rachel Grey/Phoenix II
Namorita
Jolt
Wolfsbane
And Magma.
What, too soon?

MeLikeJinx 05-08-2022 04:11 AM

If I can only complete one more team... I wanna finish Excalibur... I mean the 5 man team version of Excalibur... just give me hellhound Rachel Grey.

JCarterVA 05-08-2022 05:06 AM

RIP George Pérez. He was an amazing artist. JLA vs Avengers is a must read for any Comic book fan. His phenomenal talent will not be forgotten. I am glad I got to meet him at a show many years ago.

I've seen most of the wave on the clearance end-cap, granted at different Targets, but they all marked them down to $16.99 "Repackaged". Because of course they did since it was one of the few waves where I bought every figure and don't need any of them.

I could have probably finished building Rintrah, too, at that price and gotten most of the Eternals at the actual Clearance price of like $6.89 or something. Course, even discounted I still don't really want to do either of those things.

I don't know if I anticipate it, but nothing lasts forever and I'm prepared for it.

In the meantime, if they just got out at least Avalanche, Excalibur Rachel, Feral (if not Wolfsbane, too), and top it off with a brand new Banshee then I can live with what I currently have and be more than satisfied with my X-Men Legends.

Dr Kain 05-08-2022 10:40 AM

At this point, I couldn't care less about Feral considering I don't have Ricter or the proper Domino.

Wolfsbane and Rachel Phoenix, on the other hand, are musts, but Banshee needs to happen first.

Captain Nash 05-08-2022 11:30 AM

If the line does end up winding down (or more revolves around MCU releases)...at the very least comic wise I'd like to see:

Banshee of course
BOEM II (Mystique's version)

Completing the New Warriors and OG Thunderbolts (and Feral and Wolfsbane for their respective teams).

Those would be fairly essential or wrapping up completion of teams.

Personally though, really hoping that mid-level villains like Wizard, Exodus, Count Nefaria and Graviton could get made as well. Between these four and figures from the above section, that would taking care of most of what I'd really feel like I 'need"

ariellagunas 05-08-2022 01:20 PM

@ Dr Kain:

I’m in London and tomorrow I popping out to Disney store and forbidden planet.
Would you like me to get you the X-Force three-pack if they have it?

Sataninjaku 05-08-2022 01:24 PM

My own must haves echo most of everyone else's, but Mojo, Long shot, and Spiral would also top my list. Even so, despite having been on board such a short time, I have managed to get about 90% of the figures I want or would even put onto my shelves. Even if the line ended tomorrow, I'm mostly satisfied. Shit, between being almost done here and only needing some 30 ARAH figures left, I'm going to have to find something else to waste money on soon.

If you don't mind.

ariellagunas 05-08-2022 01:44 PM

@Dr Kain:

Not a problem! I will report back tomorrow.

Nimrod 05-08-2022 02:53 PM

The great & late George Perez was my all time favorite comic book artist ever! John Byrne is a close second. I had a couple of things in common with Mr Perez, both from NY, him the Bronx, me Brooklyn, both Puerto Ricans. I 1st laid eyes on his art in 1977 when I was in grade school' the issue was Avengers 161, Ultron was beating the crap outta 9 Avengers, the art blew me away, I was hooked on his work since then. I met him in person at the 2004 SDCC, He signed all 4 issues of Avengers/JLA + various Superman/Wonderwoman comics as well as a small poster of the Avengers meeting the JLA for the 1st time on that rooftop & Hawkeye says they remind him of the Squadron Supreme. I have all 12 issues of COIE/His work on the 1st 4 issues of Infinity Gauntlet. All his 70s Avengers & 2001-2003 Avengers issues when he came back to work on them with kurt Busiek. Some of his FF work, some of his Wonderwoman/Superman & various TT issues as well as various other titles he did for both DC & Marvel, Also have all issues of his image run on that super team who's name escapes me at the moment. It's been a double loss for comic book collectors these past 7 days with the great Neal Adams passing just last week as well. May both those legendary artists RIP, their great work will last for ages.

WallySparks 05-08-2022 03:29 PM

anyone know if Hasbro has made or planning on releasing original 1990s Danny Ketch Ghost Rider for Marvel Legends?

hasbroherofan 05-08-2022 03:35 PM

Jeez, I must've missed something the last few days, because I have no idea why anyone is entertaining the idea that Hasbro is going to stop doing comic figures.

Goddamn. Losing both Neal Adams and George Perez so close together really stings. RIP to two legends.

Thus far there's been nothing to indicate it, no.

TheBlueMarvel 05-08-2022 04:08 PM

^I can't speak for others, but it makes sense to me that as collectors are priced out and sales flag, Hasbro will reduce the scope of offerings. In that circumstance, MCU characters will likely take the lead (if not becoming the ONLY options) as likeness from movies are more marketable than are the comic versions. Young people don't read in the way previous generations did given the advent of internet culture and digital technology creating a lack of recognition and interest. This dynamic has consistently bedeviled deep canon cuts and even some more familiar and conventionally popular characters.

hasbroherofan 05-08-2022 04:24 PM

^As always you're extremely wise. I can see the reasoning, absolutely... I just am not yet convinced that's what's happening just because someone made an alarmist video about the Target situation. Hey I could be totally off, who knows. I just don't need to see something more concrete before I give in to despair.

You're also wise and very right about keeping a handle on dreading what may, or may not be around the corner. All of this is armchair toy-tycoon shit. Without being in the boardroom, on Hasbro's marketing team, or a c-level exec at a retail giant there is no real knowing until it happens. Obviously, I don't want to see Marvel Legends do anything but thrive. But I'm feeling considerably antsy about this and I'm one that for years vocalized that premature reports of the line's end were overblown. I ain't so sure now given the backdrop of...well, of everything currently going on.

I actually had a reply typed out yesterday that I scrapped (it was a bit long, even by my standards), in which I essentially said that if the line ends before they do, I will legit throw a toddler-style tantrum.
